Description

A Tape with Instant Bond. Originally developed for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) applications, duct tape is used today in a variety of maintenance, repair and construction settings. 3M All Purpose Duct Tape DT8 offers high instant adhesion coupled with maximum conformability, making it an ideal tape for contoured surfaces. It can be applied in temperatures as low as 40°F and used in temperatures as high as 150°F for up to 30 minutes. This is the most stretchable 3M duct tape and bonds firmly to a number of substrates - including plastic, glass and sealed concrete. (For applications requiring greater strength, please see 3M Heavy Duty Duct Tape DT11.) Recommended Applications: Patching, Bundling (light duty), Reinforcing, Taping / splicing insulation, Capping pipe, Securing conduit ends, Marking, Labeling, Temporary repair, Hanging poly (polyethylene drapes), Built to Stick. 3M's family of rugged cloth and duct tapes adheres to most surfaces for applications ranging from bundling to moisture proofing, sealing to splicing, reinforcing to hanging poly drapes. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Damn sticky tape... Almost too sticky for applying it but you know its going to stay in place. Hard to tear so have a knife handy to cut it.

A coworker of mine (in an R&D lab) was using masking tape to try to attach electrodes to polycarbonate housings that has veeeeery slight grease residue on them. He's supposed to be a scientist and then pulls that. Why? He was out of duct tape and didn't want to be bothered to order more. This is what I ordered so we would have some for a while. This actually sticks. This stuff is currently holding stuff that's taped to the wall. Not only did we use it in the lab, but to actually fix a hole in a duct (damaged by accident during expansion of the lab). This is the kind of tape that once it accidentally sticks to itself, you just start fresh with a new piece. That kinda strong and sticky. Its very easy to tear and doesn't end up with those long thing strips being left to tear down the length of your roll (if you've bought cheap tape, you know what I'm talking about). Does it cost more than some other options? Sure. And yes, I used company card to buy this, but I have a roll at home that bought in person because it is just good tape. You pay a little more for quality things, but then end up needing to use far less of them to get the job done. If you're buying duct tape, this is the tape you want. ... show more

I wrote that title knowing 3M is possibly THE most evil, souless corporation on Earth, but dammit, NO ONE makes good duct tape BUT them! No other duct tape is as easy to use, grab hold of surfaces and ESPECIALLY tear! (The last roll I bought couldn't tear down the middle!!!) I will suck it up and stick with 3M tape! ... show more

I just got this today and I cut off a piece to try it out. It is a much thinner tape than the usual duct tape. I haven't applied it yet. It might work just as well. Don't know yet. The stickiness seems to be as good as the other good ones. It is just not as heavy duty. Maybe it will work, but I'll have to try it out first on some projects like I have used with the other duct tapes. ... show more

This iss REAL duct tape. It is thick and sticks extremely well, unlike the fake "tearable duct tape" that is superthin and doesn't stick with the flip. You can still rip this tape with your hands… no scissors/knife needed… but it sticks like it's supposed to.

My husband is always doing something around the house and is always using this 3M Duct Tape. It is reasonably priced per roll although you do have to buy the 3 rolls in this case. But it will never go to waste in our house. He either is wrapping up the weekly amount of newspapers and flyers we have to go in the recycling bin, or breaking up our Amazon boxes or other cartons and tapes them up so as to make sure they stay together and go into the corrrect bin for recycling. He uses this around the house, in plumbing issues, water issues and even on the car to hold things together until he can get somethiing fixed. It is very strong, industrial strength and this is the ones that the Professionals use. Also being made by 3M can gurantee that its a great product. Only thing is that you need to put a paper clip or nail where the tape is cut off at becausse if you leave it just on the roll as is you’ll spend quite a bit of time trying to find the beginning again to use the tape. ... show more

This is now my go to tape (in terms of duct tape). It seems to hold up pretty well outside in the sun in comparison to the old-fashioned grey type which, as we all know, turns into dust if the sun is on it for more than a few minutes! One of the most wonderful things about this particular tape is the fact that it leaves little if no residue at all! 3M is a wonderful company with a wonderful story behind the companies success that’s worth a read ... show more

    • Loses adhesion with increasing temperature

Works great unless the surface gets moderately hot then the glue softens and loses it's adhesion. Hot as in like say a "duct".
