I am very happy with the performance of this respirator. I have used respirators occasionally at work (full and half-face), and occasionally for home projects so I know what I expected in a good respirator and this one delivered. I guessed on the medium size and it fit my face just fine, the fit/seal was easy to adjust with the straps, it was comfortable to wear for 20 minute intervals, and the filtration while spraying a truck bed liner with very strong VOC odors was excellent. I had absolutely no indication of any odors at the start of my project, and none after 40 minutes of spraying - no break-through from cartridge expiration and no leaks around the face seal. Certainly for my household projects (occasional spray painting or varnishing) this is a great respirator, and one I will gladly use again in the future. ... show more

I recently just got pregnant and Im a nail tech. I ordered this mask but never tried It before I reached my client. I didn’t read instructions before using but i figured it’s self explanatory and easy to use. Which it was. I put it on in 10 seconds and it was great. The comfort wasn’t the best but it’s probably cause I tightened It too much and didn’t wanna take any risks of inhaling fumes. Breathing wise inside the mask is very comfortable. I smelled nothing at all with this mask. I took it off for a second to test and smelled the fumes so put It right back on. I use this respirator when I clean my home & cat boxes and it works GREAT for that. It blocks out all but the most intense smells and even then, the smells that come through are very muted. I do not understand how this is a "disposable" respirator because the filters & retainer clips are readily available. For those who want to know, the unit did NOT come with any filters, so you will have to purchase them. If you search Amazon for " 3M Filter Retainer, 501 Filter " you will find both the retainers and the filters for this unit. Kind of a bummer that it doesn't come with them but what're you gonna do. ... show more

It works. Not many products these days do this. I purchased this for farm and shop use. I had been coughing for a day or so every time I used the tractor discing, mowing or spraying despite using a 3M paper disposable mask. My wife persuaded me to get a respirator - instead of the paper masks - when doing tractor chores. I went on Amazon and based on the reviews as well as my dual need for chemical and dust filtration selected the 3M Half Facepiece Disposable Respirator Assembly 5301/21577. Last week I sprayed pre-emergent and herbicides in the vineyard and orchard for 6 hours each for two days. No coughing or difficulty breathing afterwards. This 3M unit worked for chemical filtering great. Later that same week, I refinished two doors inside the shop, using paint remover, naphtha, mineral spirits and making lots of sawdust with the power sander. Again, no coughing later or difficulty breathing. It works. Fours stars because after 6 hours on the tractor you sweat under the mask and the back neck strap attachment/coupler can scratch/irritate the back of your neck with longer work times - especially when swiveling your head all the time on a tractor. A small price to pay for no coughing, however an easy to fix design flaw for the engineers at 3M to fix. Otherwise 5 stars. Highly recommend for dusty/particle and chemical use versus the paper mask for protection. ... show more

    • Can't smell the gas!

I use this when I dump gasoline everywhere working on a fuel injection system. Just can't take the fumes. Wearing this mask I don't even notice. Same with spray paint. I usually replace them when I begin to smell the odors again. On a side note, I wore this mask for a few hours in the spring time without noticing. I took it off, and I could instantly smell the trees, the flowers, the grass, the pollen. It's like I got intense smell-o-vision. Interesting effect! ... show more
