I have a degree in visual art and taught art in NYC public middle and high schools. This book is an excellent way to get your creativity back from a long hiatus or if you are just beginning to have an interest in visual arts. There are daily art assignments that develop your creative instincts and challenge your imagination. Since there are 365 of these, you can take a structured approach to do one a day for a year, or do them at your own pace if you do not like structure. If you like these exercises, there are several other editions by the same author. I spent fifteen years in nonprofit management and had lost contact with my art side. I had started out as a commercial illustrator at the beginning of my career, and now, fifty years later, I was afraid to draw again. This book is overflowing with an expansive variety of self expressive opportunities using colored pencils, markers, watercolor paints, pens, really whatever brings you joy.     • Good, varied prompts
Format: Paperback
This is a great little book for people with a creative block. It calls for using various mediums, the topics are quite varied, and the difficulty levels offer a good variety too. You can spend as much or little time on each page as you want, and it's good for getting you out of your comfort zone. My biggest pet peeve is that the pages are thin. Yes, that keeps it more affordable, but that also means that ink, markers, and other wet mediums can leak through onto the next page. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it is annoying to have an otherwise good doodle marred by what you did on the previous page. I would still recommend this. I don't plan on making a masterpiece so it's not a huge deal for me, just a minor annoyance. But it's worth keeping in mind if you're picky about that sort of thing. ... show more

A great little work book to practice brush control without being stressed that it won't be perfect. It's perfect for watercolors, pastel pencils, colored pencils etc. If note it's very helpful to use clear gesso as a primer for medium that will bleed like felt pens or watercolors. i have 4 of the series and i think this one may be my favorite. A great book for budding artist or a TEACHER, or a wanna be artist like ME! I'm a senior citizen who is more into crafting than drawing or Art but I have enjoyed this book so much. It was a Christmas gift last year from my daughter who teaches art in Elementary School. And I haven't nearly completed all the exercises, but I get to pick and choose the ones that interest me. I bought one for my oldest daughter, too, because my children are more talented than their mother, and this book challenges both notice and advanced artist! ... show more
