I have a cathedral ceiling in my bedroom. Age has caught up with me and I could not carry the air conditioner up the ladder this year. I bought this winch and problem solved! It was easy to carry the winch up the ladder and hang it from an eye bolt. My wife operated the winch control while I guided the air conditioner into the window.

Writing the review before I even put it in the box to return it. Product fails inspection before it even leaves the house to go to the shop. Nice fat cable, nice hooks, reasonable weight, good ergonomics. The thing has no brake. Take your thumb off the button, it continues running 5 more seconds and sinks another 3 to 4 inches. With some weight on it, probably 5 inches. Your putting a motor in a nice car, don't want to scratch paint, you want to bump it 1/4 or 1/2 inch down to align the mounts, & it drops 5 inches. That's it. it's useless except for sloppy work dropping a pallet of grain off a freighter. Too bad. I had high hopes. Irrelevant that the power cable is 10 inches long and the operating cable is some 20 feet in case you want to operate it down the hall from the bathroom. No big deal it has a giant fan, sounds like a weed blower and you would have to yell over it if you were operating as a team with someone. Oh yeah, when lifting, it continues 3 more inches after you take your thumb off the button too. I conclude whoever made it never tried to use it. I'm off to print a return label. Followup. I run a car shop (Lancia) So do my neighbors (Saab) They are looking for an additional hoist, so we had a test before returning this thing. We lifted a South Bend 9" lathe off a table, and placed it on a separate bench. Conclusion: Not just useless, but dangerous. Lathe weighs maybe 400 lbs, and would over run a good 4 inches after thumb was lifted off button. their 300lb chain lift didn't do this, and my 440lb cable lift with the horizontal design didn't either. I prefer the design of this thing visually, but as a tool I think it's hopeless.

I bought this for my husband for Father’s Day but ended up giving it to him early. He was trying to load a cast iron wood heater so I had to give it to him. Immediately him and his buddies had a new “toy”. It worked amazing. He put up Uni strut this week for all the projects he now plans to use it with. He said it works great and was amazed that I got it for the price I did. Great product, thank you!
