Fun game for experts & novices
I am a wine professional (sommeiller) and I love this game. It's easy to play (my non-wine nerd friends can play), although calculating the score takes a little getting used to. I love pretending to be the auctioneer and talking about the wines at each auction round. & my friends pretend to be happy that I do. 1 month later. I still love this game. My none-wine-snob-wife is bored with it, though. ... show more

A fun game for any wine enthusiast
I love this game. It was so easy to learn and quick to play. It was perfect addition to my girls night in with wine and cheese and this fun themed game. We even learned about some new wine. The artwork is gorgeous as well.

Great game.
This game is a lot of fun and pretty easy to learn. It plays well at three but can play up to eight and I found it more enjoyable with a higher player count.

Wine Cellar: A Delightful and Sophisticated Card Game for All Ages. Easily Accessible, Fun Game.
"Cork sniffers delight!" is the perfect tagline for 25th Century Games' *Wine Cellar*, a charming card game that has become a staple in my household. While my 12-year-old daughter and I don't drink, we absolutely adore playing this game, and we’ve made a tradition of doing so in the most comically prestigious way possible—imagining ourselves as high-society connoisseurs critiquing the finest vintages. It’s a game that, despite its sophisticated theme, is incredibly accessible and a true joy for players ages 10 and up. Its simple mechanics, combined with a touch of elegance, make it a delightful experience for 2 to 8 players. The premise of *Wine Cellar* is surprisingly straightforward, which is one of its greatest strengths. The game is all about building up your personal wine collection, represented by cards that you acquire and arrange. Each player starts with a few cards, and the goal is to create the most valuable collection by the time the game ends. You do this by acquiring new cards from the "market" and strategically adding them to your tableau. Each wine card has a different value, and the game introduces an interesting mechanic where certain cards, like a "Sommelier" or a "Wine Critic," can enhance the value of other wines in your collection. You can also "sell" cards for points, but the true challenge—and fun—lies in building complex sets and maximizing the value of your hand. A typical playthrough for my daughter and I goes something like this: We begin by laying out the market cards, and in our most refined voices, we ceremoniously announce the "wines of the day." My daughter, channeling her inner aristocrat, will often dramatically claim a "1989 Cabernet Sauvignon" with a flourish, while I might opt for a risky "2010 Merlot" that has the potential for a big payoff later. We take turns drawing from the deck or from the market, carefully considering which cards will complement our collections. The excitement builds as we reveal new cards, like a "Wine Pairing" that doubles the value of a certain type of wine, or a "Faulty Cork" that makes us lose points and prompts us to groan with mock disgust. The game ends when the deck runs out, and we count our points with great ceremony, comparing our final collections and laughing at the funny little narratives we've created. It’s a lighthearted, engaging game that is not only easy to learn but offers a lot of replayability and room for personal flair. A fantastic value, easily makes a great gift. Nice card quality and components. ... show more

This could be the perfect game for up to 8 people
My family and friends love playing games. However it's always tough getting a new game to the table, especially when more casual gamers are involved. That's what makes Wine Cellar so special. We've played it with just 2 people and as many as 5, and everyone caught on quickly and loved playing it. First of all is the theme. I'm not a wine drinker, but that makes no difference to enjoying the cleverness of how the theme of wine permeates the whole gaming experience. From the graphics which make for a gorgeous table presentation, to the wine types, to countries of origin, to how well it ages ... all of these real-world wine traits are incorporated seamlessly into the game. Even the cards are a treat (although difficult to shuffle) because they are tall and narrow just like the wine bottles they represent. Secondly, it's super easy to explain and to play. In Wine Cellar, you are tasked with building a wine cellar of 8 bottles of wine for up to 3 clients who all have different requests. Basically Wine Cellar is a set collection game, and there are really only 4 things to keep track of: Wine type, country of origin, aging, and the card's numerical value. There are several unique twists that keep the game play interesting even for experienced gamers. The bidding system is unique in that the cards you use to bid become the ones you must bid on in the next round. The way you collect your bottles is also a bit of a puzzle in that you can only add a bottle to the top or bottom of the stack you're building. What makes this significant is that each bottle is marked with an "aging" value from 1 to 8 (to signify when the bottle would be most flavorful). And this game never overstays its welcome, so it makes a great filler game or a fun, easy game to cap off a night of gaming. It goes so fast, that we found it best to play the suggested 3-round variant. I highly recommend this game, especially if you're looking for something totally different than the typical "party" type of game for up to 8 people. ... show more
