  • Rouckhound baby
Great kit for beginners like me! Everything included works great. 10/10 would recommend!

  • I am a huge rockhound. Sturdy bag, huge, good hammer & chisels, much mixed supplies
I collect two things: rocks and books. No one, and I mean NO-ONE, will help me move. Ever. So while I am not a geologist (nor do I play one on TV), I am a bona-fide rockhead with at least a bit of geological knowledge. So. How this set works for you is going to depend on what you usually do in the field, but for my purposes it's great, although I may have to sharpen the hammer and chisels a bit, and I'll possibly add in a heavier hammer for really getting full use of the chisels. (I wish I had something better to test it on than I do in the video. I live in California, but am visiting my sister in the middle of Michigan. There are so few rocks here it makes me itchy!) But mostly the only things it doesn't have are any acid (although there is a bulb), a magnet, a hardness nail/ceramic plate, logging/record/survey forms and something to write with, all of which are basic and simple to supply. And possibly a UV light. I am absolutely delighted! Going down the list of items, some are solid duty and worth the price of the set alone; the hammer, folding trowel and two chisels (one pointed, one flat) especially. The bag is very roomy and of sturdy, reliable canvas, although you might want to add a piece of foam to soften up the weight on your shoulder. But the strap is also loooong, so the bag can end up on your back where it's easier to carry. It has a side interior pocket for maps and papers and exterior carrying loops for extra tools. As far as the primary supplies go, there's a cute little compartmentalized box for small samples, as well as some round tins for similar purposes. Said box closes tightly, but maybe get some small zip bags to put the tins in just in case they bounce open, especially if you have to label them. I like the velvet bags quite a bit, as I have found the occasional minor gemstone or fragile bit of fossil or even thin serpentine shards in beautiful pieces. The gloves are more about keeping your fingernails clean (ha!) than protective, but are one size fits all, and the tweezers do tweeze. And the bag is more than big enough to carry a ton of larger "samples" (read: rocks). As you move into the smaller items they become a bit more poky, by which I mean probably not what you want to rely on if you are going to be dropped by plane into a geological survey and then have to find your way out again. Still, the compass does point north, the whistle does make a rather squeaky tweet and the jeweler's loupe does make things kind of bigger, but you may want to upgrade some of them depending on your needs. For me they are fine except the loupe, and I have a small magnifier that lights up instead. And lastly, because I have to keep this to a readable length or else I would keep going, the one flaw I can find is that the bag does not close tightly. It folds over and latches closed, but like an old fashioned book bag has plenty of space for smaller things to fall out of. Again, please see media and just be aware. Any rockhound will be thrilled. Even a geologist should be pleased. ... show more

  • such a comprehensive kit!
Right out of the box, I was impressed by the variety of tools included. The rock pick hammer and chisels feel sturdy and are perfect for breaking apart rocks and uncovering fossils. I appreciated the shock-absorbing handle, which made it much easier to handle those harder strikes without worrying about missing and hurting my hands. The kit also comes with some great defensive tools, like gloves and safety glasses, which made me feel much safer while out exploring. It's comforting to know that everything I need is neatly organized in the provided canvas bag. There's plenty of room for not just the tools, but also for all my finds—rocks, minerals, and the occasional gem. It keeps everything tidy, which I really like. Using the magnifier and compass has helped enhance my geological surveys. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the cleaning brush worked too; it made clearing off dirt from my discoveries super easy. The included folding shovel comes in handy for digging, whether I’m searching for gold or other treasures. Overall, this kit suits both newcomers and seasoned collectors alike. It’s really versatile and ready for any outdoor adventure. I feel encouraged to keep exploring and discovering more with this comprehensive set! If you’re into geology or rockhounding, I highly recommend giving this tool set a try. ... show more

  • Not a bad kit for someone to start their ventures with
So far im loving the kit. The chisels have weight to them and a good grip. They do not deform too easily which is nice because rocks arent the only thing they will be used for. The handles are nice easy to grip with a nice hand guard that goes all the way around the impact zone. The hammer is not bad it is decently quality as well though i have another that i added into the bad for the fact of heavier hammer being accessible. The tweezers are not worth the time if you think you might have to get a good strong grip on anything. Both tweezers are thin and flimsy. I decided to throw them into my vape stuff instead and grabbed my heavy duty tweezers for the rock bag. Surprisingly the compass works and works well! Maybe a few degrees off of true north marker. The mutli tool (swiss army knife) doesnt feel too bad. Personally a style with a rubber grip would have been nice but it will make do. The jeweler compact inspection glass is nice and it definitely allows you to see some very fine details. The gloves are cheap flat out. I dont plan on using them but keep them in the bag as emergency back ups. The whistle works my ears range for about 20 minutes following my no thoughts before blowing it of instant regret. The compass on the side of the whistle works but i havent had opportunity to test it along side of others to see how accurate it actually is. The specimen containers are roughly the size of a half dollar coin. Small but have a see through lid which is nice. The brushes are pretty basic but i don't need anything high end for casual digging like i do. The bag! Oh the bag is semi thin yet durable! The material feels rather stiff and tuants you to start digging immediately. The flap is held shut by some twist style latches that hold decently well. The should strap is not all that comfortable whether you have just your tools or tools and samples in it. Ive got a should strap cushion im gonna slip onto it. It is nice that the bag has spots to store tools and a pocket on the front for storage as well. The safety goggles are also pretty basic which doesnt bother me none, i planned on using my shop glasses anyway. Is it worth the buy? For me yes because its a nice kit to have for my tracks through the woods and the creeks. Price is actually acceptable in my opinion so i can't complain about that either. In the end im actually quite happy with it even if some of the stuff doesnt seem all that great. Out of the items in the kit 60% is acceptable quality while the remaining could be better and still fit in the price range. ... show more

  • A True Complete Geology Kit – Perfect for Beginners and Advanced Users Alike!
I have been holding onto a large geotraine rock for about ten years, waiting for the right moment and the right tools to crack it open since it showed clear signs of visible crystals. This 25-piece kit ended up being the absolute perfect choice for the job. While I am definitely not a professional at cracking open rocks and only managed to get a small chip off my specimen on my first try, the quality of the tools is undeniable. This is a super advanced, high-quality kit that literally comes with everything you could possibly need, from a heavy-duty rock pick hammer and a durable chisel set to extra field gear like a folding shovel, magnifier, and canvas bag. As a beginner, some of the specialized tools were unfamiliar to me, and I did have to look up how to use a few of the included pieces, but that just speaks to how thorough and complete the set is. Whether you are just starting out like myself or are a seasoned rockhound looking for a professional setup, this kit is an incredible value. Overall, I am incredibly happy with it and highly recommend it! ... show more

  • All my children Loved this!!!
This kit comes with so many goodies. All of my children loved it, and that's a lot of children! They have various ages and interests, but when they saw this each one of them wanted to be the first to try it. I'm happy to say that they've all had a chance to try it and they love it! What's so wonderful about this, among the many things, is that it comes in its own satchel bag. The bag is a nice dense material and it has plenty of spaces to store things. No ... show more

  • Great complete set
I already have plenty of rockhounding tools, but I've been trying to get my husband more interested in trying it out, so I ordered this so he'd have his own starter set of tools. And I'd say for beginners, this is a great and complete set - a real bargain compared to having buy each tool individually. The tools seem well made, but we'll learn more about their durability when it's a bit cooler and we can get out and do some more intense rockhounding. They're holding up well with initial tests though, so that's promising. I could see this kit being great for kids, those thinking about rockhounding as a hobby who aren't sure what to start with, or just to have on-hand so you can take a friend with you and give them the tools they need on rockhounding trips. ... show more
