Last year, I had pocket gophers dig into my yard and kill my new lemon tree. I had to buy a new tree and plant it in a wire cage to prevent gophers. This year I bought a young 4 ft plum tree to plant in my back yard - inside my fenced in garden. I have bought these animal barrier fences to go around the inside of my garden fence to keep the gophers, rabbits and squirrels out of my garden. The morning my order arrived I found the signs of another pocket gopher this time inside my garden - munching on the roots of my plum tree. We set out a trap and caught one that very same night. Next day we installed these barrier fences panels all around the garden - and another wall around the plum tree - that was 3 weeks ago. The selling point was when we found the gopher mounds going up to the barrier fence around the garden, and stop right there. Pocket gophers will dig their tunnels 4-10 inches underground, so here's hoping they give up when they hit the barrier - if not, we have more around only the tree! So far, so good.

We have three acres where we live, lots of gardens, and two bigger dogs who I need to "remind" to stay out of my gardens. Unfortunately, the "reminder" doesn't work so well on hungry bunnies, which is why I have been on the lookout for fences with narrow openings to protect my plants from being nibbled on. The spacing on this fence is perfect for that, and tall enough to still serve as a reminder to the dogs. The fence is well-made, with good coating to prevent rust. The wire is sturdy enough, but seems slightly thinner than other fences that I have ordered and liked. Along with the fence sections, you get a pair of cotton gloves that would be too small for a 10 year old. But it is a nice thought, I suppose. I just used my garden gloves. The pliers/cutter that comes with is helpful for snipping the ties you can use to connect the fence-sections. But that is much too fiddly and time-consuming for me, thus, I installed the fence without using the ties, which worked fine for me. The bottom tines of the fence are sharp and slice into the earth easily. It took me less than 15 minutes total to install the fence, from opening the box, to having all of the pieces in place around my garden. Excellent product. Definitely recommended.

So, I misread the production description originally: I'd misinterpreted the statement that this was a 5-pack of 17-inch-high by 5.4-feet-long fence pieces to mean that there were going to be 5 separate pieces that would each extend to 5.4 feet in length -- I thought that the total coverage length would be more than 25-feet (5 pieces x 5.4-feet each)... But actually, each of the 5 fences pieces is only little bit over 1-foot in length each -- and the 5.4-foot measurement is the total length once you've lined up all of the fences side-by-side. Likewise, the 17-inch-high measurement includes the height of the ground-stakes portion of the fence -- so, depending on how deeply you push the stakes in, that can end up reducing the (visible / above-ground) height of the fence by more than half of the total height. So in altogether -- these are pretty fence pieces that aren't going to keep out most animals. For instance, there's a groundhog that likes to visit my garden -- and it climbs over, leans over, and/or pushes over these fence pieces over these fence pieces very easily when I tried surrounding a tomato plant with just this fencing. The fencing might be helping to keep out some small rabbits though from the plants I've surrounded with these fence pieces.... Where these fence pieces probably work best are for plugging in gaps alongside our perimeter fence -- e.g., the spots in our regular yard fence where there's a gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground, where animals like groundhogs and rabbits are most likely to crawl under (or where they've already dug out established routes to run through) -- pushing these additional little barrier fences into those areas helps to block those routes (and because the stake into the ground, they can't be easily dug under either). Unless you had tons and tons of these little fence pieces to block the entire perimeter, it's never going to stop animals from entering completely, but it'll at least slow them down a bit. Honestly, I don't mind the bunny rabbits, groundhogs, and deer, etc., having a nibble from my yard -- but I'm less happy when they eat EVERYTHING from the garden haha.

I used this fence to keep my pot belly pig from eating my acorn squash. He's obsessed with squash; it was only a matter of time until he discovered the growing gourds and helped himself to a snack. I placed these around the veggies and used the enclosed zip ties to secure each panel to the next. The posts were a bit tricky to get in the ground, but held firm once planted. The set even comes with a handy set of clippers for trimming the zip ties. It's been a week and the panels are still standing and still keeping the pig from porking out on my first foray into gardening. Very pleased!

I have many garden fences and a number of my fences are exactly like this product. This style of fence is so handy in the garden. I use this style to block off gaps in my wooden fence to prevent small creature entry, within my tall flower beds to help hold up tall flowers, as decorative accents to hold up metal signs or artwork, as border fences in my raised beds. Rarely do I connect them to make an actual fence -- the panels themselves are a workhorse in a serious garden. That said, this particular product was exactly what I was expecting. Solid, sturdy, no assembly required to put panels together. The styling is no frills which is exactly what is helpful when putting these panels to work.
