  • Excellent Beginner Paddle
Color: Camo Glitch
I've been fortunate enough to have tested around 2 dozen paddles (acquired thru the Amazon Vine program or purchased outright). I would say that I appreciate the technology and the manufacturing nuances that paddle makers impart on their product. This is not the nicest paddle I've ever used, but I would say it's one of the bast values I've seen in a paddle. First, let me say that Selkirk makes a good paddle....I've used a handful of their products over the past few years and I've been impressed. The Helix Pro Paddle has a decent sweet spot, an adequate handle and an above average paddle surface. This paddle will give you good playability, a little pop and great control. Is it perfect....certainly not, but it doesn't need to be. This is going to be better than 90% of the no name brands in this price range and ultimately is a really solid entry level paddle. What's wrong with it? If I am comparing this against more expensive paddles....which is not a very fair comparison, the sweet spot isn't in the same league. The materials and paddle construction are just diffferent....so the paddle just doesn't play like an elite paddle. The handle/grip is probably my biggest complaint, I think they could have put some better grip tape on it....but this is something most players can easily upgrade themselves. Overall though, this paddle will play well and do everything that a beginner player needs. I would also argue that some intermediate players would also find this paddle to their liking...especially if spin/control is at the top of their list. ... show more

  • Opinion of newbies only!
Color: Spectra
My husband and I are new to pickleball. We set up a court in our pole barn, looked up some rules, and began playing for about an hour every day. We started out with 4 different paddles to play with and compare. We have had several friends join us over the past couple of weeks, and we collected their feedback as well, for what it’s worth - all as newbies too! The paddles we chose range in price from $50-$100. Alert: I’m going to be using newbie speech, because I do not know any of the terms for the game or the paddle! Our discovery on the best features in this Selkirk paddle are as follows: - This paddle is thicker than the other three we have been using. The effect of this is that it feels heavier in our hands. I wouldn’t hand this one to a younger kid to use. - The material on the face of this is not smooth like the others. We believe this grip is why the ball makes a louder thunk sound when it hits the paddle. I personally love the sound. I am able to hit the ball harder with this and still not go out of bounds, so I guess that means it gives me more control. - The quality is excellent. And, it looks cool also. Our general consensus is that this is probably an excellent paddle for someone that has been playing for more than a couple of weeks, and that it is likely to quickly become our favorite of the bunch. I would recommend this for someone that is new to pickleball, but maybe not quite as new as us! ... show more

  • Excellent pickleball paddles for beginners to pros
Color: Spectra
I admit. I'm not a professional pickleball player. I wouldn't even call myself an expert. I started playing a few summers ago and haven't stopped since. It's fun. The whole family got into it when we went to Sunriver, Oregon, a huge pickleball community. I've played with beginner paddles, expensive paddles, and everything in between. These He x Pro paddles are the real deal. They are super comfortable and have excellent grips, and the paddles have an almost "felt" material that softens up your play and allows more control. That's what separates these paddles from cheap beginners. The cheap versions are hard plastic, and the ball ricochets off it with no prison, only erratic randomness. Can you say and enjoy yourself playing with cheap paddle? Sure, but after that first game, you'll want to continue to get better and more comfortable. These will help you do just that. You get one of the most comfortable paddles you can play with for $80 (currently on sale for $69.99 as of 4/10/24. I'm sure there are more expensive ones, but you only need to upgrade from these if you're representing the United States (or your country in the Olympics). These are awesome for the weekend warriors and above. The style is fantastic, too. There are many choices to differentiate from one another. I grabbed four of these for the family, and everyone loves them and has their favorite based on color. ... show more

  • It will definitely work for a beginner but where is that padded case?
Color: Patriot
Being an absolute novice I can only say so much about a paddle but here it goes. It is as lightweight as any that I have held, It feels comfortable in my average guy sized hands. It says it is USAP Approved. The face is okay looking but I have seen cooler looking paddles that didn't have advertising logos all over it. The handle is reasonably padded and has angular edges. It is an average sized paddle. It does have gritty feeling surface that should help when trying to finesse the shots. I cannot speak to its value but from what I know most pros go for the carbon paddles. More experienced players should speak to its sweet spot. At the very least I'm pretty sure this would work great for beginners who are just starting to find their way in this sport. Finally, the majority of paddles I have seen come with some sort of padded case to protect it but this one did not so you will need to get something for that. ... show more
