I used the digger to remove a small tree before doing my septic system. I did have to remove the counterweight to access the anchoring bolt for the alternator. There was a fanbelt squeal that was brief and intermittent. Everyone lived happily ever after. I used a homemade gantry to suspend the counterweight at the proper height that allowed the upper portion to slide under the sheet metal that surrounds the engine compartment. A little lift from below with a floor jack was enough for the retaining protrusion at the bottom of the weight to slip over and onto the steel platform on which most things in the engine compartment rest. I snugged down the two 14 mm retaining bolts and voila! Getting a mechanic to work on this thing is hard because the shops that can do the work have trouble finding workers. I knew that going into the deal. I do not perceive that these machines are especially hard to work on. I would not think to bother Typhon, as I don't want to hurt the reputation of a person or company. I love the Terror 18. In fact, I bought a second excavator from Typhon 2 days ago, a one-ton machine that comes with a hydraulic oil cooler. The price of a replacement engine is around $600.00. My excitement is reignited.     • Little bangs per buck.
Not as useful as you might think. It is very slow to travel and one speed. You're on your own with repairs or parts. It's a toy that will dig a little. It won't handle over a shovel full in lifting. The fill openings for the hydraulic oil and fuel are next to each other inside the cab, inside a metal lid and down a few inches. I have to stick in a hose into the filler necks and check each few ounces to see if it's full. The hose has to stick through the window to the outside to fill. The air conditioner is light duty. My travel sticks inside the cab hit one another, adjustment might help. The diesel engine sells for $6,000.00 online. If it holds up to digging some footers and such I might be happy with it. Getting in and out of the cab is hard. Closing the door is hard so I will have to attach a rope or something. They're trying but no one is available to work on there, nor are parts easily available. You'll need research to learn whatever you need for these machines. The scoop in front fills quickly so I may like it more once I become more familiar to it but just pushing an 8 ft. log was too much for this. Without the cab, these go for much less from other places. 7.7 quarts of diesel in the tank. ... show more
