  • Love them
I finally bought these, and what a difference a spurdle makes in stirring my sourdough! The reason I removed one star is that one is thicker than the other. I like the thinner one better, but will use both.

  • A Great Addition To My Spurtles Collection
Spurtles are a very useful kitchen tool (originating from Scotland), and I love, using them. This set of two narrow, long Spurtles is an addition to my collection. These stir “paddles” are of wood, so can be used without scratching your coated pans, but - more importantly - are uniquely shaped to hug the bottom rim of your pans, pots, mixing bowls and jars. That is helpful when stirring, mixing, or getting the last remnants out from the bottom of a jar (think peanut butter, etc.). They look mostly like spatulas, and can be used that way, but sport a slight curve in the wood. This set of spurtles can get into tighter spaces like narrower jars and , because of their length, are also ideal to stir and mix your sourdough starter. I found - to my delight - that these particular spurtles are very helpful in loosening baked bread from the bread pan without scratching it up. And out pops the bread! Yay! The color of each spurtle varies, making all of them unique. The wood of these spurtles is smoothly finished and solid to use. Even though they need to be hand washed (they are wood after all), that step is worth it, and it takes seconds, to soap them, rinse them and set them out to dry. To prolong the life of my spurtles, I frequently condition them with gently warmed olive oil, but you can also use food grade mineral oil. They will thank you for it! 😉 ... show more

  • What it lacks in practicality, it more than makes up for in charm.
What is a spurtle? According to one definition: 'Not a spoon, not a spatula, but a little of both.' On the one hand, if you had no spoons, and no spatulas, you could get by with this. On the other hand, if you had both of those, there would be no real reason to use this -- except that it's more charming than either of those. I find myself using it because it feels like a kind of throwback. I love that it's wood instead of metal or plastic. I love the odd shape, which almost looks like it grew that was and was just sanded down. If efficiency is what you're after, this is not the tool for you. But if you enjoy throwing a bit of eccentricity into otherwise pedestrian tasks, you should definitely pick up a couple of these. What it lacks in practicality, it more than makes up for in charm. ... show more

  • Small.
I have been wanting a spurtle for mixing my sponge in breadmaking. I didn't anticipate how small and light these would be. They won't be much use in breadmaking, though they will (hopefully) work for spreading jams, butter, tuna salad, etc. I am showing them next to a Galaxy S9. The S9 is actually thicker. ... show more

  • Beautiful design and sturdy
If you are on a sourdough bread making journey and you like pretty things like me, then you need these stirrers. I was using a long silicone spatula to stir the flour and water when I feed my sourdough starter. It started to fall apart with daily repeated use and frequent washing. It was also a little cumbersome and hard to reach the sides of the jar. Enter these cute stirrers! They are just the right size and so very sturdy. Sometimes my sourdough starter can be a little lumpy, so a sturdy stirrer is essential. The curve of the stirrer is also perfectly designed to reach the sides of jars or tall, slim containers. These obviously need to be handwashed which is not a big deal to me but just worth noting. Love these and would buy them again. ... show more
