I've purchased these tension rods twice now. These really are the most valuable tension rods for the money. They are plenty sturdy and the quality is honestly on par with anything you'd buy at any normal retailer. They do the job credibly and are very affordable. I definitely recommend these for kitchen windows, pantry windows, etc., as long as you're not hanging heavy drapes on them. (That part should just be common sense!) I used these for a window in my pantry to hang a light linen curtain; a stairwell window with a light linen curtain; and two kitchen windows with--you guessed it--light linen curtains. The first set of rods I purchased have been hanging for about two months now with no issues--so far, so good. The second set of rods I purchased seem just like the first in every way, so I'm not very concerned about quality control. The satisfaction of hanging curtains so quickly and easily is nearly inexplicable. I've used tension rods in the past, but I've always hated them until I got these. Other rods were heavy and awkward to hold up even for the length of time it takes to tighten the rod. These particular rods, however, are sturdy without being too heavy, which I greatly appreciate. Just make sure you measure the space you're using these for, and triple-check that your measurements fall somewhere between the minimum and maximum width these rods are made for, then you should be good! ... show more

    • They do the job they are intended for....
You put 2 opposite (male/female) ends together, then hold that joined portion and twist the end to extend. Once it's just short of the needed opening you hold it in the opening and continue turning to lengthen the rod until it is secure. This is not a an actual spring tension rod, but is like a shower curtain rod that you turn one end of to secure. I'm a middle aged woman and it wasn't all that easy to hold and turn above my head but I managed. ... please note that I had to put the sheer curtain onto the rod before I put it together because the rod pocket was fairly narrow and wouldn't fit over the cap ends of the curtain rods. Again, it does the job but is not a true spring tension rod. I think it probably is able to hold more weight than a spring tension rod because it can be screwed/turned to a pretty tight tension before the rod bows. ... show more

If you put too much tension on it it will break. They was a problem because it's a tension rod. I don't recommend hanging anything heave on it.

This curtain rod comes in two pieces. After you use a piece of tape to hold the pieces together, this works perfectly. Being rough with the curtains means the rod slides a bit, but it doesn't fall like a heavier curtain rod. These are light and thin, but the stabilizers on each side are very effective. The rods are also easily adjustable for any size fit and can be adjusted without fear anything heavy falling on your head. These would be great in a child's room if there is any possibility of bonking any little heads. This lightweight metal feels like aluminum, and while it would be a startling thing to have fall it would be more fear-based years than pain ones. A kid could easily maneuver these by him/herself as long as a piece of wrapping tape held the pieces together. ... show more

If you need these for a 28” opening just keep looking or run to your local store & pick some up that will cost you less than $4 each. I needed these for a 28” space & they are NOT 28” at the smallest point. The smallest measurement is 28.75” (see photo). I decided I was going to deal with it & use them on the outside of the window frame with some command hooks to hold it but since I want to be able to open the curtain this didn’t work because the center where they connect constantly comes apart. They are nicely constructed so I believe if you could use them as intended (as a tension rod) they would have worked, but the way they are constructed they aren’t like a inexpensive tension rod that you can buy at your wal-mart or target which have more give in the tension area since they are all one piece. Tried returning them & even the Amazon supervisor I spoke with said they didn’t have an option to do a boxless return & said that I could pay for one & after the refund gets processed they will refund me for having to buy a box which is RIDICULOUS for a $12 item. So moral of the story- don’t buy these if you need them for anything like I described because they will only cause you unnecessary frustration & run around. I still had to go to my local wal-mart & buy there. ... show more
