I own several of the BAOFENG radios in different configurations. They are not the easiest radios to program without some assistance, however, there are bunches of programming instructions on the internet and YouTube that make it a breeze. The good thing is they develop as much power as any brand of radio from the cheapest to the most expensive ones you can buy. Some people will claim they are cheap Chinese junk but they work well. I’m absolutely astounded with the clear quality that this thing has right out of the box, it has a huge variety of features, I would recommend watching a couple YouTube tutorials on it just to dip your toes in the water a little better, but after that you can tune into many local stations, and stations across the country with little to almost no static noise, I love the small case design, it fits extremely well on my plate carrier in the designed pouch I got for it or just clipped onto the mollie webbing, I’d buy another 3 of these things just so that I can have a good time with my friends and teach them the good things about a ham radio ... show more

It picks up channels in the city well, but in the backcountry it struggled to pick up chatter even with an established relay.
