This hemoglobin meter works. The best use of it is for repeated measures of the same person over time. If you used the same procedures, you should reliably understand if your hemoglobin is going up or down. There is a dark blue vial with two control QA strips. It can be distinguished from other, normal vials of test strips because the control QA vial has no label for a code chip. Also, the other vials have more test strips and sound differently when shaked. For good hygiene, you will need to purchase some alcohol swabs separately, in order to disinfect the finger that is being pricked. ... show more

KDK I bought this meter to check periodically my hemoglobin. I am sorry to say that it is not an accurate meter. I have found that there is a difference of 2 between the meter reading, and, the test done at the laboratory. The meter always shows a higher number. Keeping this in mind now I know the hemoglobin level and is working well for me. ... show more

It tells me my hemoglobin. I don’t know how accurate it is, but will be testing it with the lab to see the difference.

    • Difficult to understand the directions
I did eventually get the meter to work but it took about an hour to understand set up and use. A letter that came with the unit directed me to watch a video to understand how to use the unit. Unfortunately, I speak only English and the video was not voiced in that language and did not have English subtitles. Using a hemoglobin meter is a multistep process that requires precision, but that was difficult here. ... show more

I have high HGB levels. I give blood on a therapeutic basis, e.g. if my HGB is less that 17.5, no blood draw, This machine allows me to accurately test, at home, saving a trip to the blood center if NGB is less that 17.5. Each wasted trip is $4 in gas lost. Hints: (1) Make sure you are depositing a full drop of blood on the test "mat. It will be a round drop when deposited, the quickly spread ,turning the mat a deep red color. If you have any area of the mat white, you will get an error or a low reading . (2) The needle lance is weak. Any of my wife's lance's more forcefully launch the needle, producing a more useful drop of blood. ... show more

Very good product. I was looking for a handheld analyzer for my anemic mother. This was a very good option took a little bit of time getting it but it operates very well. Just as the seller states in the description you must follow the instructions very precisely. when obtaining a capillary sample it must be done exactly as written in the instructions or erroneous results will happen. It is good to note that the individual's hands must be warm and not cold to the touch for correct hemoglobin sampling. Or at least that's what I found out. ... show more

I did have little trouble at first trying to understand the book that came with the unit. But I went to the the web page and watched the video . It was so ease to use I was making it hard for my self I have very low HGB and have to test often , this tester is very accurate with Dr office. I just ordered another 100 test strips. I would recommend this to anybody. Very good buy. ... show more
