I thought I'd need all the bundles for all 25 of my students to make 1.5' scarecrows but I only needed 2. I did have them use newsprint paper for some of the stuffing but I still expected to use a lot more raffia than we did. I highly recommend you buy this raffia. The media could not be loaded. I’ll be honest, this is my first time working with Raffia, so I’m no connoisseur as of yet. The package came nicely vacuum sealed, it seems to be of good quality. It has a pleasant slightly sweet smell. The bundles it comes in leave a lot of crimps in the pieces, which was problematic for my project. But I figured out it can be fairly quickly straightened by running a few strands at a time between your thumb nail and fingers. If you don’t have a handy dandy sticker-peeling-length thumb nail, you can also just use your fingers by adding a little more pressure. Half of these bundles had nice uninterrupted strips of raffia but the other were just bundles of raffia fluff. Since I’m basketmaking, the fluff is fairly useless to me.

Sadly I use these rolls as ribbon ( for bows) after unwound. Had I known they woud have been vacuum packed flat I would not have purchased. The other set of colorful rolls from different supplier shown for reference ( and easy to unfurl). I have attempted to remove and try to unroll them into ribbons without success so far I'm not sure if the compression made it more difficult to unravel into a flat 1" or so wide ribbon. The cats are fascinated though... until the blue cloud appears above me as I try once again to unravel a section. So if you use as twine it's a bit flat but ok.
