The box comes with a selection of sizes of smooth, shiny, stainless steel balls for replacing a few or the whole set from a damaged bearing. They're sorted into slots in the box, with corresponding labeling on the inside of the lid. Two things to beware: 1. Some of the sizes are very similar and you wanna make sure the ball you're picking out is the right size and not one up or down, especially in the middle-low ranges of sizes. 2. The balls can shift or jump between compartments in the box. Most of them will stay put, mostly, but be sure to double check for this reason also, that each ball is the right size as you select them You can get a pretty good idea by holding two adjacent sizes or placing them next to each other on a tray, to see which one is slightly larger or smaller than the other one. For cases where a bearing failed because one or two balls went out of round (maybe from an impact or rusting) or if, like me, you were repacking a bearing and dropped one of the balls, and it bounced or rolled away never to be seen again... this kit may have just what you need. (It doesn't have every possible size, but it has a lot of the medium to small ones that are common enough in small bearings.) Worth it if you have, or anticipate having, at least two bearings to fix.

I actually got these for tractors. There's a lot of places where little ball bearings are used like injection pumps, hydraulic valves, transmissions, etc. And when you drop one on the floor and it rolls away, there goes half a day hunting for a tiny bearing, or worse you wind up running to the hardware or auto parts store to try and find a replacement. This assortment has a good range of sizes. In most cases one of these will work. In most cases where balls are used for flow control, the size doesn't have to be exact. If its big enough to not go inside the seat, and small enough to move freely where it should, then it will work. These are good enough quality for my needs. They are nice and smooth. The case is well made. I would recommend keeping these around. Great item!

This is a quality assortment of stainless steel precision balls. The surface finish is consistently smooth across all pieces, and they arrived perfectly clean and ready to use with no oil or residue. Buyers should be aware of two key characteristics: first, the balls run approximately 0.1 mm under their nominal size. Second, the size distribution leans heavily toward the smaller end, with 200 of the balls being 3 mm or less in diameter.

This set is sold as precision balls assortment. I took the micrometer out an did some measurements: 10mm ball measured 9.999 in one direction and 9.995 in a different direction, same ball 9mm ball measured 8.996 8mm ball measured 8.001 7mm ball measured 6.994 6mm ball measured 5.991 5.5mm ball measured 5.554 5mm ball measured 5.001 4.5mm ball measured 4.498 4mm ball measured 3.998 3.5mm ball measured 3.500 3mm ball measured 3.000 2.5mm ball measured 2.502 2mm ball measured 1.991 1mm ball measured 1.013 It took the tungsten point file to one of the 3mm balls, and in two passed, the file left a groove in the ball, indicating that these balls are rather soft. I could not get my phone camera to focus on the grove. :(

Not sure how often I will need these but doing a lot of 3d Printing and repairing various items I guarantee I will end up using most of these at some point. The ball bearings seem to be well built and are pretty accurate dimensionally for the ones I tested. There didn't appear to be any rust on them which is a good sign as they appear to be true stainless steel.

If you work on a large variety of bicycles that use metric bearings, you'll want to have a good assortment on hand. This set covers everything from 1mm to 10mm. Unfortunately, the most used metric sizes for bicycles is 3mm through 6 mm. 340 pieces sounds like a lot, but in the most used sizes, 4mm, 4.5mm, and 5mm, expect to see only 20 of each. For bicycle use, I would have preferred to have a larger quantity of the more useful sizes rather than 50 each of sizes I will never use.
