  • Great machine for a beginner!
Material Type: Alumina
I had never used a melting furnace before, and the instructions were very clear about what to do. This particular furnace has different metal types and their respective set temperatures written on the small placard on the front. Both crucibles that it came with, as well as the graphite mold were clean and not damaged. I've used mine only once so far, but I am extremely excited to be able to do another pour. Functions as advertised, highly recommend. ... show more

  • Be careful of the power cord.
Material Type: Alumina
Worked fine. Heated up to set temp in a timely manner. I'm not an electrician or engineer. I do know that a 16ga wires power cord is way to small for 1400 watts. Cord got so warm it tripped the gfci. Make sure you have a 2 foot clearance away from items that melt. Just did a test melt.

  • Everything you need to start melting metal!
Material Type: Alumina
Little powerhouse. This product has worked really well for me melting copper. It includes 2 crucibles and a mold for ingots. It’s exactly what I needed to get started melting metal. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. It’s compact and a great value for getting started!

  • Fantastic Furnace
Material Type: Alumina
2nd Edit Aug 25, 2025: I fixed the problem by swapping out the on-off switch with a "30A" on-off switch - The furnace has resumed working fantastic - love it. Edited this Original Review on Aug 1, 2025: After 5 uses - Stopped working - Very Disappointed. I operate a geochemistry laboratory and we use melting furnaces to assess the contents and value of various ore and chemical extraction samples. Our requirements for temperature range go up to 3,200F. Electric Induction Furnaces are far more preferable to torches - safer, more accurate and less work. Don't waste your time with torches trying to figure out how hot the crucible is getting, paying an arm and leg for fuel and oxygen. We use a torch only when we have to. Torches are basically stone-age technology. This model furnace is a common and popular design because it works so well and efficiently. The maximum temperature is about 1180C (2,100F). Using a laser thermometer to verify - crucible temperature is about 10 degrees higher than the digital readout. I rate this particular brand as being "excellent" in fast heating, accurate temperature, solid design, safe usage and melting capacity. We use it as a desktop furnace, there is no need for special insulation in or around the unit. Works efficiently off of typical 110V AC wall plug without taxing the electrical system. If you need to melt something like Platinum, you need a 220V furnace, which cost near $1,500. Have used this furnace repeatedly, melt after melt without any issues. We do not melt large amounts and actually use only 5 - 20 ml crucibles - which we lower into the chamber using tongs. It is necessary that we are able to view and photograph melts at various stages of temperature increases in order to document color changes and states of matter. This style furnace allows for that. We frequently remove a crucible, take photos, then put it back in to continue the melt. Easy to install or remove samples using tongs during a melt without problems of burning ones-self. $235 is extremely fair and competitive. Well worth the money if you melt gold, silver, copper and the like. If you are wondering whether to get one of these or not ...... get one - you'll never regret it. ... show more

  • Temperature didn’t work
Material Type: Alumina
Heating up to the desired temperature was a big challenge. It was fluctuating up and down, but did not work well to what we wanted. It looks heavy and durable with good quality material, but overall quality wasn’t great. The size is bulky but sturdy and value for money was reasonable, if it worked.

  • Good occasional use smelter
Material Type: Alumina
The media could not be loaded. This is a capable little smelter for melting metals for jewelry or what have you. I appreciate the compact size and how easy it is to move it around when not in use and for storage. It took a bit longer to bring it up to temperature that I expected. To get to 1000 C it took about 1 hour and 30 min. It only has Celsius, no Fahrenheit. The lining got a hairline crack upon first use. It does not affect use, but is annoying to see. And makes me wonder how well this will hold up over time. The lid is partially painted on the underside and will stick to the refractory lining when it cools down. The included crucibles are great and work as expected. The ingot size is nice too. Overall, this does a good job if you only need to use it occasionally, but not heavy duty for frequent use. ... show more

  • Handy
Material Type: Alumina
I have alot of scrap cover wire as an electrician. Monster cans too that are aluminum... now I can have a little fun and melt it all. For no reason other than because I can!. It is simple to use but you do need a 20Amp circuit and a dedicated or one that has very little being used on it as this draws 16amps at 2000watts. Follow the directions especially for the preheating of the mold and preheating the crucible. It is solidarity well made. The pliars are a little sus but they do work tho they are not pretty. Great size for some back yard fun. ... show more

  • Decent smelter for a beginner
Material Type: Alumina
I'm not going to lie - this screams harbor freight. But I'm a harbor freight enthusiast, so OK. The tongs feel a little janky and the gloves are super tiny and not thick enough. But the machine itself - it's ok. I can't speak too intelligently about it as I'm a novice but I have been having fun playing around with aluminum scraps. It's fairly easy to use, but I still do it outside and with lots of protection since it feels so cheap. All in all, it's ok, but not sure I can recommend it. ... show more
