Does your car eat batteries? First of all, if you ever jump start your car, you’ve hurt the battery. The best thing you can do is immediately commute with it for a day or two. Four to six hours of driving at any speed and jostling the acid will help it recover. If no one in your family commutes, then put it on a trickle charger overnight twice. I know, the alternator does the same thing, but it doesn’t. You need to get the battery absolutely topped off and keep it there a while to reverse the chemical process. Draining your battery until the car won’t start is always serious—start batteries HATE going below 50%. My wife’s 2001 Honda Odyssey eats batteries because the interior lights do not automatically turn off if the key is out for too long. Stupid design from an otherwise smart company. It has a seven hundred CCA battery that was down to 400 CCA, so leaving the headlights on for 5 minutes would make it not start. This was not the first battery that died early. So I replaced the car battery and installed this device. The install was easy, I put it on the positive side but I strongly recommend you put it on the negative side. You will have an exposed terminal unless you wrap it up, and it will probably not look good. Exposed negatives are better. Basically this is a smart relay. It monitors the battery voltage and cuts off all power if the voltage drops to 12.25 Volts. That’s probably realistically a 50% drop. You hit the button, start the car, and you’ve avoided 95% of the damage of a fully dead battery. If you have a short so that the car discharges on its own, that’s much worse. Use this device to shut off all power every time you drive, so the battery is 100% all the time. I stuck the wired remote switch underneath the back edge of the hood near the driver’s wiper. So my wife can use the remote, hit the button, or pop the hood and hit the button on the device. My daughter immediately clicked the wired button over and over. The car was dead. Turn it back on with a single click of the wired button, no big deal, but it took a while to figure out. The main wire is a gauge too light for my liking. I would not install this on a diesel. The voltage gauge that shows hundredths of a volt on the main unit is a nice touch. It only illuminates occasionally, but knowing the exact voltage of your battery is a huge plus. Back to my first comment, with this device, you can monitor the health of your battery and alternator. With a new battery turn off your car and let it sit overnight. The next morning, turn on the battery and look at the reading. That reading is good. Higher is better. It should be about 12.85V, but every battery is a little different. A slightly discharged or failing battery will show a lower voltage in the morning. Batteries always want to be fully charged, so if you see a drop of 0.10V, consider a long drive or an overnight trickle charge top up. Test your alternator by turning on the engine and every electrical component including the A/C and seat heaters. At idle you should see 14.1 to 14.4 volts, if so, you’re good to go. Unlike a dash voltage gauge, this thing is real. Do all this and you might get 10 years from a battery.

The TIKSCIENCE smart battery disconnect switch is one of the best designed kits I've found. While others provide the basic functionality, either automatically disconnecting when voltage drops, or allowing remote manual disconnect, the TIKSCIENCE unit allows for two distinct modes: 1) manual on/off (ignoring battery voltage) 2) automatic disconnect at a CONFIGURABLE voltage The configuration part of 2) is very important and useful. In certain climates at at very low temperatures, vehicle batteries -- even AGM and deep cycle batteries -- can drop in voltage. Other automatic remote disconnect systems I've tried disconnect the battery at an inconveniently high voltage (e.g. 12.0V). This can leave you stranded away from home, especially if you didn't think to bring the remote with you. Additionally, if you're working on the vehicle and don't need to start it, other auto-disconnect systems will keep repeatedly disconnecting the battery on you, which is very frustrating. The TIKSCIENCE remote disconnect switch is well built with lots of clever options for installation and configuration. Along with the manual and/or variable voltage automatic programming mentioned above, the connectors can be configured for positive posts (not recommended) or negative posts (safer), in just about any orientation, even installed upside down if space is limited, such as with trunk-mounted batteries like mine. The remotes themselves are quite clever as well. To manually connect or disconnect the battery using the remote, you must hold a third button for three seconds. This guards against inadvertent disconnection while in your pocket; very bad for your engine if you're driving at the time. In my opinion, this is the #1 smart remote battery disconnect system on Amazon. Highly recommended!

I like the units. I bought two as my F250 has two batteries. Everything works as it should. Only drawback is having 10 seconds to start the truck after having to use 2 remotes to engage batteries. I prefer to simply hit the wired switches but the instructions are a bit vague. “If electricity then hit the button once to engage batteries”. Ok. At any rate, I’m sure I will figure it out. Someday

My first unit had a bad key fob. Amazon replaced it promptly with another one. Battery disconnect installs rather easily. One of the biggest issues I had were the instructions for setting how low to set the low point voltage before the disconnect actually disconnected the engine battery. Instructions are pretty vague and could use more and precise details for the low voltage setting. I have not checked to see if it will really automatically disconnect my engine battery or not. The engines ECM and probably the TCM have a constant draw on this battery, not to mention there are probably other parasitic draws too. My dad was the original buyer of this motorhome and then I took it as part of my inheritance. This motorhome has to battery disconnects, one for the engine battery and on for the house batteries which have never worked properly. And the dealer was unable to correct this problem, we've always had to manually disconnect the batteries. Time will tell how well this battery disconnect works. Right now, I give it Five stars. If I find it doesn't do its job, I will revise this review at a later date. Review Update: Today's date is 4/10/2024. I've used this unit for about 1.5 years so far and love it. I used to have to take the negative battery off (which was a pain) to eliminate all voltage draws from the engine battery. This works great. The only thing I've recently noticed is sometimes all 3 lights flash in succession, green, yellow, and red. I'm not sure why and I can't find information regarding this, but it still works fine. I would definitely buy it again. Review updated: 3/25/25. I replaced one of the fobs battery with a (12v) A27. Surprising small for 12v. Initially the fob didn't work with a new battery. I took everything off the chassis battery that this disconnect was connected to, cleaned all eyelets and terminals. Now the fob works to connect/disconnect the chassis battery, but I still have a single flashing number in both the connected and disconnected circuit. Although Amazon has it at a reduced price right now for $70.55 (I believe I paid in the neighborhood $80.00), l I don't think I would buy this product again. So far, it's been in use for about 2.5 years at a cost of roughly $33.60/year. Maybe my expectations are more extreme than most, but although the disconnect has been in service for about 2.5 years, it's not been switched off and on all that often. Therefore, I find it difficult to feel that it has been of value to me. Unless I find that other disconnects have shorter timeline issues, I don't feel I can recommend this battery disconnect to anyone. So, at this time, I give it two stars. If this unit continues to work for me, I may raise it to three or four stars, but to five stars. 8/4/25 final update. I tried to connect my engine battery with both fobs. No good. As soon as I began to disconnect my negative battery, disconnect connected power to my engine. I can't and won't do this if it breaks down and the fob won't reconnect the battery into the circuit. This unit is approximately 3 years old and cost me $26.67/year to have it on my motorhome. I took it off and installed a manual disconnect in its place. It was nice and convenient to have the wireless disconnect, but I don't need it fail while traveling. Thankfully, each time it failed, we were home. I've attached a very short video which shows the problem with the LED monitor which began sometime in early 2025, maybe in 2024. This unit worked great in the beginning but has failed after 3 years of intermittent use. If I could, I would downgrade to zero stars

I was able to install the device relatively easily once I got a new negative cable and the right tools. I replaced a mechanical cut-off switch which had started to malfunction. This new device works as described! I have a ghost leak in my Mercedes which was draining my battery overnight. This new battery saver/cut-off switch works great. I leave it on "Auto", and it switches off the battery when it reaches about 12.3V, allowing me to use the remote to reconnect the battery with enough juice left to start my car with a big V8. The only slight drawback is that I have to be very close to the car to use the remote. My battery is in the trunk, so it was a hassle to manually open my trunk to engage/disengage the old switch. The available wired manual switch is also an option and it works well. I'm glad I got this switch! Worth the $$

I planned to use this as a temporary solution to a parasitic battery drain issue while I worked on locating the source of the problem. In my vehicle, the battery is in the trunk. I installed the system and tested it and it seemed to work ok. My vehicle has no mechanical trunk release. It relies on an electrical actuator, so that even when using the emergency key, the key simply uses the actuator to move the latch. (horrible design Mercedes!). Anyway, with the installation of the cut-off relay, there "should" be no problem. However, I quickly found that the key fobs were unreliable. I wound up having to put a hole behind the license plate to reach the cable that goes between the actuator and the trunk latch. Then I snaked the cut-off electric switch through to the outside so I could reenergize the vehicle and open the trunk. Very disappointed given the cost that the key fob was unreliable. Had it not been a temporary installation, I would have properly placed the switch and avoided drilling the hole, but word-to-the-wise, don't rely on the key fobs working with the received enclosed in the trunk. They worked ok with the trunk open. Otherwise, I had no problems. it worked fin in both fixed on-off and voltage sensing mode.

Very easy installation. Programming the voltage drop out very simple. I asked the question about using a better manual switch but also ordered a led light momentary (no/nc) high quality push button switch. Cut the POS off and wired NO contact to switch and led to battery using an inline fuse holder at the positively terminal for both the led and the Red power lead from the kill unit. Installed interior led push button assembly into the empty cigarette lighter hole, a perfect 3/4" hole! Ran a 4 pair twisted cable from kill unit to the push button switch and works great. the battery has a steady draw of about 125ma. that drained the brand new Diehard battery if not driven every day. This install was to a Classic restored 1997 Mustang Convertible (43k) original owner. Using the AUTO setting cured the drain problem but as a bonus, setting the kill switch to OFF gives an advantage to auto threat. For the investment of about $100, it is well worth the investment.

This unit automatically cuts off the battery around 12.13 volts. This gives more than enough power to start the H3 Hummer. The remote works fine and so does the external button. Just having a cutoff occur automatically when it should makes this unit pretty amazing. For the remote you must press the bottom button D for about three seconds and then followed by top Button A you should hear a click which means the cutoff has been disabled and the battery is now available.
