This is advertised as bedding for reptiles, but I got it as a substrate for starting seeds and micro greens. (A great substitute for peat moss) Once soaked, this material really expands… so when you get this, rest assured, it’ll provide plenty of substrate. Just don’t dump all the water at once… you want to water it gradually with warm water (not over 100 degrees Fahrenheit) I didn’t have to clean this out… no rocks, dirt, etc. Five stars! ... show more

I think it’s working great. Holds moisture. When you add water it expands several times its original size. It didn’t come with any instructions and I wasn’t sure if I mix it with soil or can it be used alone.

These particular coco bricks are highly compressed of very finely shaved fibers. They soak up a lot of water and expand to about 4 to 5 times the size of the brick.
