  • Natural color. Slightly coarse, pleasing texture for stitching. Shrinks.
The unbleached, natural color, muslin has a slightly coarse, light to medium weight, pleasing texture for stitching. The piece of fabric I received had a slight odor, similar to dried grass or hay, and was about 62"w selvage to selvage (finished edges) x 71"L which, is 1 " shorter than 2 yards. After washing in cold water and drying on medium heat, it shrank up about 4", both ways, at about 58"w x 67"L. Also after washing, it had a nice wrinkled texture and when ironed it was much smoother but, had a very subtle crosshatch texture. Both looked like it would be nice for hand or machine stitching, embroidery, draping across a table or as a curtain. I snipped it with scissors on one edge, easily ripped it selvage to selvage and it had a nice frayed edge that would be nicely used for art quilting, stitching or embroidery. I tested it by burning a piece with a lighter. It burned up completely, acted like cotton with no melting like a polyester. I am happy with this muslin for use in fabric art and quilt projects but, wouldn't use it for a refined perfectly matched and smooth quilt block piece. ... show more

  • Quality fabric, economical price
Exactly as described, was much more than I anticipated. I had been shopping around for bread banneton liners/covers & shocked at how expensive they were; especially when it's essentially a small square of cotton fabric! At such an economical price, this is the obviously alternative & best choice for the bakers on a budget IMO. Very pleased with the purchase! ... show more

  • This fabric has a rougher texture and a wider weave than I prefer in my muslin.
I use a LOT of muslin because I drape designs and test out patterns before cutting in the real fabric. I usually get my muslin fabric from Mood. The quality of the Mood medium-weight muslin is very good for fitting purposes of new designs. The quality of this muslin was not as nice as that from Mood. This muslin had a rougher hand-feel to the fabric, it had a looser weave, and it also had an unpleasant smell to it. (I do not wash muslin before using it, so a bad smell will linger in my sewing space.) This med-weight muslin was $9 for 2 yards (63” wide), which is $4.50/yard. I normally pay $3/yd for 45” width med-weight muslin, so while this muslin fabric is 1/3 wider, it is 50% more expensive. And since I don’t like the rougher/coarser quality of this muslin compared to my usual muslin, I will not be ordering any more of this muslin. ... show more

  • First muslin fabric
Note that the PEASUG 100% Cotton Muslin Fabric is currently 10% off. I should start by saying that I'm brand new to sewing. My teen requested a sewing machine for Christmas, and I've been teaching myself (very slowly) to sew. I've never worked with muslin before, so this is definitely not an expert review. In fact, I learned a lot about what I should have done by reading another review. For $9 you get two yards of muslin. It is unbleached and has a natural off-white color. I wouldn't say this muslin is soft. It feels pretty stiff and coarse. I didn't know I should wash and dry the muslin first, which apparently makes it softer. My first use of the muslin was for making pockets in a DIY knitting/crochet needle storage case, so the stiffness was actually welcome. I'll wash and dry the remaining muslin for my next projects. Chalk this up to total noob education, but the linen frays quite a bit where it has been cut. I think this is normal, and I think I need to serge the cut side. The muslin was easy to cut with both shears and rotary cutter. ... show more

  • should work great for embroidery projects
Nice lightweight muslin. I didn't notice any odor when I opened it. It has a nice oatmeal natural color and should work really well for embroidery projects. It does fray quite a lot when cut so I have to figure out how to deal with that. But otherwise i'm quite pleased with it.

  • Typical piece of muslin
Very typical muslin fabric. It is well-sized to make it easier to sew. Good price for a wider cut. I'll be hand-dyeing it for use with my hand embroidery projects.

  • Works for me
I'm new to sewing so I wanted to get some inexpensive fabric to help me learn to cut patterns and sew- and this certainly fits the bill. it's not the kind of muslin for diapers but rather for draping which is perfect for me. it's a bit course but it does the job.
