  • Makita DA4031 10 Amp 1/2-Inch Angle Drill
If you value your wrists, head, legs, and other body parts that are often the target of a heavy duty pistol drill that recoils after "catching something," then by all means buy this drill. I'm not sure what human wrists cost, but I'm guessing that they are expensive, as I sat there contemplating how screwed I would be if mine were to get sprained (again) or broken after another pistol drill battle. This Makita drill is much larger, more powerful, balanced, has a drill head clutch, and is sufficient to brace yourself if there is any "catching" while drilling. Add in a nice heavy duty case to make for a reliable piece of equipment. ... show more

  • The perfect tool for the right application: **Heavy Duty**
1. Arrived in few short days as promised. The power angle drill comes with a Heavy Duty Plastic Case not pictured or mentioned in the product description. 2. Perfect condition (in spite of being sold as "used"). 3. It does not have 10 Amps as advertised: It actually has MORE : ) (ALMOST 13A) 4. It is HEAVIER and Larger than ordinary drill machines but lighter and smaller in its class: Heavy Duty "Sidewinder" Power Angle Drills. 5. It is the safest power drill because of the long handle design and disengaging clutch: Unlike the Hole Hawg, the DA4031 will not sprain your wrist, hit you hard or throw you off the ladder when it jams in a nail or something else. 6. It is powerful, quiet, smooth, well balanced, it can be used with or without the U-shaped handle or handle-bar (in order to fit in tighter places). 7. I have used the Dewalt (Timberwolf) sidewinder (which also works great) but decided on Makita because it is smaller (fits in more places) and not as heavy. I have also used the Milwaukee SuperHawg (which is a freaking awesome beast) but harder to fit in smaller places frequently encountered during retrofit jobs. [For real small spaces I use the small 4A Makita power angle drill which is freaking awesome but limited to a 3/8 chuck]. 8. The only suggestion for improvement would be to make its head a tad smaller and a built-in spot light for improved visibility. 9. If I really had my way it would also have the rotor/hammer capabilities and a SDS chuck for quick key-less drill bit exchanges. 10. Because it is a Makita, it will probably outlast me :( ... show more

  • Underrated
People often opt for the Milwaukee because of the RPM, and while slightly noticeable it will not be detrimental by any means. It’s high quality and very solid in your hand. The ergonomics are great and it’s shorter than the Milwaukee(which I use quite often for my company.) it’s going to do me well as my personal for many years. Note* it is from Japan as well so that’s a plus. ... show more

  • Great drill.
I am not a pro, but I have a bunch of holes to drill thru joists to run electrical and PEX plumbing. I got tried of having my wrist almost tore off every time my cordless Makita 1/2" drill's bit caught a little while drilling. PROS: Fantastic smooth power. Easily bores through anything. Top handle is convenient and adjustable. Chuck holds bits securely with no problems. Side handle a plus. Rubberized back of top of drill is handy in a tight spot where you have to remove the handle and grip the drill there. Case is about the size of a carry on piece of luggage. CONS: none so far. ... show more

  • The best, hands-down
I used to have one of these, and it was the greatest thing ever. Unstoppable, even with a six inch hole saw on it, but balance, leverage and a clutch so I never got hurt. My first one was stolen a while back, and these are rather pricey, so I made do for a while with a monster Porter Cable triple gear reduction drill that I already had (they don't seem to make it any more, maybe because they last forever so people only bought one for a lifetime - it is similar to this: Makita 6013BR 6.3-Amp 1/2-Inch Drill with Top Handle ) also unstoppable, but not the right tool for the job - not designed for drilling joists, not designed for tight spaces and no clutch. After spraining my wrist and bruising my hand (simultaneously!), I decided that re-investing in the right tool was less expensive and less painful than going to the doctor. I have used Timberwolves, Hole Hawgs, etc, but this one does the best job and is the least likely to injure you. Did I mention it is unstoppable? Did I mention the great plastic suitcase that comes with it, so you can carry it and some bits? Did i mention that the handle end of the body rotates (and locks in position) and the D-handle swivels (and locks in position)or can be removed? ... show more

  • Great drill for large Jobs
I run a construction company and I order this drills for my guys all the time. I personally have only used it once. I used to use the Milwaukee hog drills back when I used to used them for construction a lot so I would get my guys those but they keep burning out so my guys ask for this all the times. Now my guys still burn some of this out some times but takes them about 5x longer to do that. I would have to say for the time being definitely the best Hog drills out there at the moment. Pricing around $400 is also a decent price for them ... show more

  • The best drill on the market
The best drill on the market, I work as HVAC installer and this drill is safest way to drill 6" holes. Its a bit expensive , but by been punched in the face with a high speed drill handle while drilling is painful . So get it before you get hurt.

  • stunningly powerful
I needed this tool to bore holes for pipes and conduit. My first use was to bore 2" hole through a tripled plate. I was astounded that the drill pushed through the 3 2X plates in less than 15 seconds. Over the last few months That same performance has been repeated over and over again. I have found that it is a little large to get into a few spots, and the weight gets to you after a while of continuous use. ... show more
