This is an exact fit replacement for the kill switch on a 2.5 hp Lehr outboard motor. I recently picked up a used outboard motor at a garage sale. It was in pretty good shape, but it was missing the lanyard part of the kill switch. Looking on Amazon, I searched for a switch that fits small Yamaha motors (I'd discovered these small Lehr outboard motors are very similar to Yamahas). Be aware of how this item works! It may very well work for a Yamaha outboard, I don't know. However, it definitely works the opposite way of what I want. I wanted to use it as a safety switch for my kayak trolling motor. And I still could make it work if used a different relay, but it would not be as safe. This works by closing a circuit when the key is removed. In other words, if this was a light switch, the light would come on when the key is removed. When the key is in, the "light switch" is off and no power goes to the relay. So... if I used this switch and then a wire came loose/disconnected, it would be the same as the "light switch" being off and my relay would think the key was still in place. Not safe in my opinion. If a wire comes loose, burns itself up, or otherwise goes bad (remember you're in water, stuff happens), I'd much prefer that the motor not work rather than realize (too late) that my kill switch doesn't work. So I'm probably going to go with the Sea Dog brand since it can be wired whichever way I want. I may keep this so I have extra keys though. Update: I ended up buying a universal switch from my local AutoZone. It looks just like the Sea Dog one on Amazon and the keys for this switch work in it so I'm just going to keep them. ... show more
