A lot of reviews about the scent. Yes, it has a scent, but if you buy raw, unrefined shea butter, it has a scent. I can definitely see how the smell wouldn’t be for everyone, but it’s what you get with shea butter.

I've been having a difficult time finding a clear enough soap (as well as one a bit cheaper than the Crown Jewels!) for embedding items in my baby-related soap bars. MY LAST EXPERIENCE: I found what I thought was a 'good deal' on a 5# block of clear soap, ordered it and in due time it arrived. It might just as well been April 1st when I opened it--and I was definitely THE FOOL!! I never saw such yellow STUFF purporting to be CLEAR Melt & Pour! It was basically OK if you didn't need clear. So I did use it in several other items that it worked out in, such as Oatmeal/Honey Facial Bars; French Vanilla Coffee Bars; Soap Petals: "Clear", Colored in Molds; etc. But I was STILL in need of a GOOD, Non-Yellow, CLEAR Melt & Pour, Glycerin as a supply that I won't have to take out a loan my grand kids'll be paying off when I'm gone. Hobbies are supposed to be fun-not give you strokes, migraines, heart-attacks, & appoplexy!! Enter ZenseMe 5.5# Clear Glycerin Soap Base! On the Website it looked like it was nice and clear, the price wasn't crippling (There was even an "extra" 1/2# compared to all the others). When it came (which was fast) it WAS NICE and CLEAR, as PROMISED. It was also packaged in the NICEST, heavy-gauge BOX, too. (A NICE HEAVY BOX, I can always find a use for, even if it's only to put away for the next gift that will fit it for birthday or Christmas.) All the others either came wrapped only in thin cellophane, in flimsy plastic boxes, or (a bit better) plastic tubs (at least you can recycle plastic tubs) . Now, I have a NEW "GO TO" BRAND for my CLEAR SOAP BASE. It has a lovely thick lather, mixes well with other additives and sets up nicely in the mold, just like you'd expect from a good quality soap. I know now who I'll be buying my clear glycerin melt & pour soap from, as long as they keep their prices in check. A few cents on the ounce are handlable, for a while at least. I'll e looking into different styles of soaps theyr may make as soon as I submit this review. As of now, I'm very pleased with the quality all across the board of their soap. I did hold back the one star in the last category: Value for Money: Due to the fact that it COULD be a bit lower in price and still be competitive. It seems to be in the soaps, that as soon as you get into a little bit of good value, the manufacturers seem to want to "make a killing" on every sale instead of being a little patient and giving the consumer a break for a change. We're all struggling with the economy, you know, try being part of a remedy once in a while instead of always having the claws out and grabbing at the consumers. You keep this aggressiveness going like this and we, the consumer will get fed up and you, the retailer will NOT like the result. It's happened before. Remember: Those who forget history, are doomed to repeat it!

I bought this soap, it made it to my place and I opened it up. Pretty wrapping and nice looking soap base, and I took the plastic off with the little blue sharp thing inside and it looked great but smelled…weird. I look at all the things not in it etc. but it is a strong scent, like maybe a dollar store perfume. I saw that a reviewer mentioned it but, thought I would just put a lot of scent in it, but no. I stupidly made a dishwashing soap bar too with lemon zest and lemon e.o., but now, no I got a migraine. I don’t think it would be good for that. Well, I’m stuck with it now and I will use it with different scents to see if I can get rid of that lingering nauseous scent. I’ve bought many different types of soap bases and this is the worst. I will not purchase this type of soap base again.

I was so upset when I made my first 2 bars of soap: there was no lather at all. So angry, I decided to return the package to the seller - but had a change of heart once I had the good sense to Google "melt and pour soaps." There IS practically no lather agent in this product, I found out. You need to add some detergent to it (shampoo works just fine!), which I did, and it lathers up just fine. For the price, 5.5 lbs of glycerin was a good buy, so I am glad I decided to keep it. My soaps not only look crystal clear and smell real good, but they lather up as a good soap should. I am giving 4 stars only because I feel the company should mention this little factoid - it needs some detergent -- but thank goodness for Google!
