It came down to two I chose the Zagg even though it’s a little heavier I felt it’s right for me. The edge hold the magnetic pencil & has like little lips on the edge so that if it catches something that you may have in a backpack the pencil stays in place. I absolutely love this case and keyboard from ZAGG! It’s a bit on the heavier side, but that’s actually a plus — I know my iPad is always perfectly protected. The quality is great, made from solid, durable plastic. I did have a bit of trouble putting the case on at first, but aside from that, everything has been perfect. What I love most is how smoothly the keyboard works — it’s fast, responsive, and syncs perfectly with my movements. Typing feels effortless and super comfortable. Editing my original review, which still can be found below. Updated Review: While I really loved this case originally, it stopped working within 6 months. I assumed it must be my fault or something because I had loved the first one I bought for over a year. Unfortunately, it was outside the warranty, so I bought another in March 2023. I mostly use my iPad to watch shows or read, but I used the keyboard once a month to take notes during a committee meetings as secretary. Yet, at the end of June 2023, it stopped working yet again. Both times, most of the keys have stopped registering. This time, caps lock is stuck “on” and I can’t even get the keyboard as a whole to turn off. Unfortunately… there’s only a month warranty on the product. So twice in less than a year I’m left hanging. I’ve emailed the company, but they responded that I’m outside of warranty. Despite originally loving this product, I cannot in good faith suggest a product that stops working within a few months. I think my next move is to order on the actual Zagg website as they have extensive warranties and have been amazing to work with in the past — they just can’t fulfill warranties on products bought by a 3rd party. ******************** Original Review: I use my iPad mini like a computer all the time. I originally had this keyboard on my first iPad mini, but after I got a new one, I thought I could go with one that didn't seem so hefty (read: I wanted a super cute pink one instead). Dear reader, let me tell you, that was a mistake. I finally decided after 2 years of hardly using my iPad that maybe if I had the same keyboard I had before that I would use it more. And I do! It is hefty, but in a sturdy kind of way not a too heavy kind of way. The iPad section easily pops off if I just want to have that without the keyboard. The keyboard's battery life lasts and lasts, and easily connects to the iPad. People are always asking me where I got it and are saying how cute my "tiny laptop" is. Plus, it's made doing my on-the-go writing way easier. My fingers fit perfectly to the keys and I type just as easily as I do my full sized laptop. Update: going on nearly a week of daily use and have had no issues at all! Also, I found a way to avoid putting stress on the hinge and extending it’s life. If you hold the case upright with the hinge edge on a flat surface, and then pull down by the keyboard to lay it flat, this reduces the strain on the magnetic clips so the iPad won’t pop out. Putting a little bit of WD-40 on each metal hinge also helped A LOT. The small ‘globe’ button on the function key row doesn’t seem to do anything on the home-screen of iPadOS. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to pull up a browser like Safari or Chrome. HOWEVER, I have found that it pulls up the emoji keyboard when typing!! So technically this keyboard does have a dedicated emoji button! I’ve only used it for a week at this point, but I love this thing! I purchased this fully knowing the issues with the hinge breaking after a short amount of time, but at $100, this is fine. I love how sturdy everything is, everything being fully encased in solid rubber. I LOVE the holder for the Apple Pencil being laid into the keyboard itself, although it does rattle around a little bit. Also, when the case is detached from the keyboard, technically you can magnetically attach the Apple Pencil to the case on the bottom side, just like with the 2nd gen Apple Pencil! The keyboard is great, although the keys are a little click-y for my taste. It’s so cool how there are 7 colors to choose from for the keyboard backlight, and 3 levels of brightness. The keyboard doesn’t have the ‘instant-on’ feature like others as it is Bluetooth based which naturally makes it turn on slower, however, I didn’t find the extra 1 to 2 seconds annoying. I have not found the typing experience to be laggy and have not lost connection (yet). I love how the keyboard charges via USB C! I was fully expecting micro USB so that was a happy addition. The only issue I have to complain about is the level of effort to put the iPad itself into the detachable case. There are two extended lips on the case where it attaches to the keyboard that the iPad has to clear for it to snap into, and I honestly thought I was going to crack the screen trying to snap it in. Additionally, the case is so tight around the iPad (not necessarily a bad thing), that a screen protector would probably get messed up when inserting (unless it was one of those softer film-like screen protectors). Also, the headphone jack and lightning cable port covers don’t lock into the case at all, so they will start to poke out of the case after many times pulling them out to charge/use headphones. This case hits 99% of all my requirements for the BEST iPad case ever. The only thing that would make it 100% perfect would be a hinge stand on the back of the detachable case like the Logitech Combo Touch case for watching media or taking notes without the keyboard attached. Also, if they made this exact keyboard case for the 12.9 inch iPad or any of the newer models, I would throw my money at Zagg. ... show more

I bought this for my school iPad because the ambulance company I worked for had them and I love them. Lots of rubber around the whole thing for shock protection, I have a space for my Apple Pencil, keyboard is though enough to support the weight of the iPad so I don’t need a stand on the back and I can detach the keyboard to use with my computer. Very compact and handy little work station. Only problem I do have is the covers for the charging port and the headphone jack will lose integrity and fall off over time with regular use. ... show more
