  • It worked for me.
I bought Z-flex engine oil additive in March after my 2003 Silverado mileage dropped to 15.4 mpg. After adding Z-flex my next tank got 16.6 mpg, the next one got 18.3 mpg and today i got19.4 mpg on a 30 gallon tank full. My daily driving is 4 trips of 5 miles, 2.5 miles each way, that's rough on any engine and my truck has over 200,000 miles on it. If your vehicle is older and isn't running well give Z-flex a try. I worked wonders for my truck. ... show more

  • Not sure is there any way to tell if it's done anyting. I thought I'd give it a try.
Well I like with the product said it offered. There's no way to tell if it's doing what it said it would do.

  • Inconclusive results
I normally don't use oil additives, but I was intrigued by the carbon nanotubes in Z-flex. As another reviewer pointed out, there is some scientific literature from tribologists suggesting there are lubrication benefits to including them in motor oil. As you can see in two photographs, the Z-flex is black in color. It is very thin in consistency and pours easily. I felt I was in a relatively good position to test some of the claims as both of my daily drivers are hybrid electrics and I can easily monitor fuel mileage. To eliminate any placebo effect, I had a friend add it to one of the two crankcases without telling me which one it was added to. This was as close to a blind test as I could come up with. Both vehicles had recent full synthetic oil and filter changes with less than a thousand miles on the new oil. I've put 750 miles on each car since with roughly the same mix of city and highway driving. Just prior to writing this review, my friend disclosed which vehicle he had added the Z-flex to. It was the one with the higher mileage thinking it would have the most effect on the engine with the most wear. I will now address each bullet point from the listing's claimed benefits with my actual experiences. 1. In terms of gas mileage, there was no noticeable change in my gas mileage other than the seasonal increase from not running air conditioning as frequently. I certainly did not experience anything like an "up to 26%" increase as indicted in the listing. I would have been very impressed with a 5-10% increase, 26% is simply not realistic. 2. Protects against rust and corrosion. I exclusively use full synthetic oil and change it and the filter at one half of the recommended intervals, my engine is extremely clean with no corrosion, with or without this product. 3. Reduced exhaust emissions. I have no way to test emissions, so I can't speak to that. 4. Increased horsepower. I do not have access to a dynamometer, to accurately test for this, but there was no noticeable increase in horsepower or acceleration. 5. Less noisy and easier start up. I did not notice easier starting, but I didn't expect to. My hybrids don't have starters...the big batteries spin the electric motors to start the gasoline engines. I can't knock Z-flex for not seeing a difference there. All of this leads me to one of three conclusions. First, either this doesn't work at all. Second, it doesn't make a noticeable difference in extremely well maintained gasoline engines in hybrid electrics. Finally, it hasn't been in long enough to achieve results. I will leave it in for the remaining time to my next oil change, approximately 3500 miles. If something changes, I'll update this review. I might also consider getting a used oil analysis done at that time. If I do, I'll post that as well. ... show more

  • can't hurt
I like the idea of this, the idea being that the particles are smaller than oil so they in effect seep in the metal of the engine, adding additional protection against wear. The performance improvement they claim is based on friction. less friction engine runs smooth cooler and potentially generates more power, or performance. Our engines get abused, regular maintenance is the key to keeping them running great. todays modern synthetics have proven to go many more miles between changes and have reduced wear and engines really last much longer than they have ever in the past. Adding this to your engine with every oil change will provide a small level of improvement in the wear of the engine, and thats definitely a good thing. ... show more

  • Expensive but maybe not snake oil.
Firstly I didn't shell out 35 dollars for this. I got it for free in exchange for review from Amazon vine. I Was skeptical because so many engine additive are essentially scams. Still I looked up carbon nanotubes as an additive and there are studies that show it makes a good additive in oil and fuel. In my case I poured the tiny bottle in the crankcase of my classic Range Rover. My model has an external oil pump which takes a few seconds to pressurize. I've noticed in the week since I added this to my engine that seems to happen a little more quickly. ... show more

  • Couldn't Hurt
We bought a 2012 Lincoln Navigator at 102k and knew very little about its past history. Since we try to make our cars last as long as possible, we were interested in this product. The idea is a sound one, and we thought it may help this SUV perform better in the latter part of its life. We poured it in, but there wasn't any marked difference in performance. Even so, it has not hurt the engine and may prove helpful in the future, although we may never know. ... show more

  • Makes car run better!
This engine oil additive is surprisingly great. I’m not even going to pretend to know anything about cars. I like making my very old car (2000 Toyota Corolla) look and run as good as possible, especially for its age, but when it comes to knowing much about the workings of my car or any other car, I really am not an expert. I can do the basics and that’s about it. While I can’t tell you the ins and outs about how this product works, I can tell you that it DOES work, and it works well! I added this to my car’s oil tank, and since adding it, my car has been running so much more smoothly. The idle of the engine smoothed out and the car sounds and feels better while driving it. I also am getting a bit better gas mileage. I don’t usually find that additives do a great deal, but this one has me sold. Highly recommend. ... show more
