Based on the reviews, I knew I was taking a gamble ordering this. I knew it might be less than half full. As you can see, I guess I got lucky. Upon first smelling this, I didn't like it. I thought it smelled like old lady. Maybe I was just in a bad mood. Because when I sprayed it on myself the next day, I LOVED IT!😍 this smells like something a wealthy, attractive, older woman would wear. Mature and sexy, not quite grandma. I am 41, and I like it. It lasts around 3 to 4 hours. I have noticed at work that men prolong their conversations with me while I'm wearing this scent. Both young and old. I also got asked out, which rarely happens.

i knew this bottle was going to be tiny based off of other reviews with photos, so i was anticipating that fact. the bottle arrived about 3/4 full which had me pretty happy as i'd seen other shots where the bottle appeared about half empty instead. one spritz is enough for me, and the staying power is pretty impressive. it easily lasts for several hours if not all day before the scent becomes too faint to notice without shoving my nose against my skin. i don't have a nose for perfume yet so i can't discern all the different scent profiles, but i can tell you that it's floral with a bit of spice and vanilla and it smells lovely.

I recently received a sample of Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium, and while I was excited to try it, I was disappointed to find that the vial was less than half full. I understand samples are meant to provide just a taste of the fragrance, but with such a small amount, it was difficult to properly experience the scent over multiple uses. I would have liked to fully test how the fragrance evolves throughout the day or try it on different occasions, but with so little product, that wasn’t possible. The scent itself was pleasant, but I would have appreciated more product to give it a fair assessment. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope future samples can be more generously filled to better reflect the brand’s quality and customer care.

I got the sample to see if I like it, since this stuff is really expensive in larger sizes. It looks like I'm going to end up getting a big bottle after the sample runs out because this is my new favorite.

TLDR: the perfume is amazing but the size is too small for the price. The scent is very dark and romantic but not so heavy that it draws in too much negative attention. It is like a musky vanilla, definitely pair sweeter. No alcholic stinging of the nose. That being said, don't buy this tiny bottle. When I say it's small, it's seriously tiny. Hardly enough liquid for a single spritz. Just skip it and buy the bottle or try buying a larger sample from another independent seller. Not worth $6.

I am a huge fan of the original Opium from many years back. When they reformulated it, I had to quit using it -- ugh! When I saw that Yves Saint Laurent had a new perfume called Black Opium, I decided that a sample was the way to go (rather than just a spritz at the cosmetics store). With a sample, I could try it over several days, and in several environments. If you don't like floral scents at all, this perfume is not for you. The original Opium (of which I still have a tiny amount) was very Oriental in it's scent -- a few flowery notes, but mostly spicy. Black Opium is pretty much the opposite -- flowery, with a few spicy notes. I don't have the same reaction with Black Opium that I did with the reformulated Opium. The reformulated Opium smelled fine when I put it on then after about 5 minutes it started smelling metallic-y (and then just bad after about 10 minutes). Black Opium went on nicely and stayed nice. I did notice that the flowery notes became stronger after about 10 minutes, but that could be partially due to my body chemistry. Black Opium is a very feminine scent, in my opinion. It's quite lovely, but a little too floral for me to warrant buying a full-size bottle.

This perfume is at first sweet, fruity and warm, almost like an orange blossom floral with light hints of amber and cinnamon. Then vanilla appears and it is warm and inviting with the patchouli making you think of an antique store that has that ancient wood scent. Then as you inhale this moments of bliss occur as this mixes with your skin chemistry and oils. After ten minutes the perfume turns powdery and settles down. It mellows into a soft creamy velvety coffee. After an hour or two it starts to dissipate. The next morning after applying this perfume I could still catch whiffs of it but it was because some had been sprayed on part of my top. That had the scent of a spicy clean soap which was very pleasant. So I'll probably spray some of this on my clothes too next time I try it. As a fan of the original opium, this is pretty interesting too. I think you will love it! I enjoy this perfume and will get a larger bottle! ~The Rebecca Review P.S. The 0.25 ounce bottle with a stopper cap is a much better deal than the sampler tube. The bottle is of course tiny but you get a lot more. This perfume really is beautiful and lasts a long time.
