  • FINALLY a workout routine I can live with!
I am somebody who has always wanted to work out and likes the feeling I get from the rewards a daily workout brings, including having more energy and feeling stronger and more fit. But the problem is, with my incredibly busy schedule and tendency to get bored very easily it has been really difficult to find a program that I could live with. I have tried MANY different things from gym memberships (finding time to go was a hassle, and I HATED changing in the locker room), to excersize equipment in my living room (repetitive and boring), to other fitness games including Wii Fit, My Fitness Coach, and EA Sports Active for the Wii (did not like the Wii controls one bit and gave up). But with Your Shape, I actually ENJOY working out for the first time in my life. The personal training routines are as pleasant as I've ever experienced in excersize and the gym games and fitness classes are downright fun. I also have a knee condition that makes it hard to do certain excersizes (I had problems with EA Sports Active) but I'm not having any problems playing Your Shape. There is a ton of variety of different training regimines to choose from, in addition to fun gym games and classes so it never gets boring. I usually do a training session followed by a class, game, or both. There are workouts here for any fitness level so this game really is for everybody. You can add hand weights for an even harder workout if you want. I definitely find myself out of breath and my heart rate pumping doing these workouts. The Kinect detection isn't flawless with this game but it's very, very good. Sometimes it doesn't recognize when I'm doing a move correctly but it's not a big deal. The game gives me credit for the calories burned and I still benefit from the excersize, whether I'm doing it "perfectly" or being detected perfectly or not. Speaking of calories, this game tracks the calories burned so you can get a real sense of accomplishment, and keep track if you are making a log of calories consumed and burned. I should mention you do need the full minimum of 6ft space in front of the Kinect to play this game. Not only is this the best fitness game out there (and I've tried several) it is really the only excersize regimine I've done that fits with my life. It is extremely convenient and fun which encourages sticking to it, unlike other routines. Goodbye inconvenient gyms, boring home treadmills, excersize games that don't work well, and goodbye to not getting the excersize I want and need. Finally, I can have it conveniently and fun. ... show more

  • Fun and Effective Fitness Game!
I have had Your Shape: Fitness Evolved for about a week, and my boyfriend and I have been having a ton of fun working out with this game! I would recommend Your Shape: Fitness evolved to anyone who wants to work out in their own home, but needs something more interactive than an exercise DVD or an exercise book and a mirror. This game provides the experience of having an encouraging (but demanding) personal trainer create workouts for you, track your movements, and help you improve your form, without spending a ton of money on an actual personal fitness trainer. In addition, if you feel shy working out around other people at a gym, this game will be perfect for you, since it allows you to work out in your own living room with only a virtual trainer watching you. Your Shape works with the Kinect sensor to track your movements, which is perfect for a fitness game, because the sensor can determine if you are doing the exercises correctly. If you fall out of step with your trainer, the game gently encourages you to get back in rhythm. The game also offers tips to improve your form, calling out, for instance, "Knees a little higher!" If you do, in fact, bring your knees a little higher, the game praises and encourages you - "Perfect!" or "Much better!" If you are an Xbox 360 player, you are probably already familiar with Achievement Points. Every game for the 360 has achievement points - a full retail game like Your Shape has 1,000 of them up for grabs. This game rewards you with points for burning calories! You get 20 points for burning 100, 200, 300, etc. calories, and you can earn points all the way up through ten THOUSAND calories. Achievement hunters will find this a good motivation to keep playing and burning calories. The fitness classes are very fun. I enjoy both cardio boxing and the tai chi game. Cardio boxing is energizing and bouncy, while Zen is relaxing and calming. The gym games are also very enjoyable. I usually play a couple games of "Virtual Smash", a game where you punch and kick blocks, to warm up before starting my workout. The balance game, "Stack 'Em Up" is another favorite. The workouts in this game have something for everyone. You can focus on cardio workouts, toning, or sculpting, according to your needs and interests. And the workouts are intense - I currently play this game only every other day, because I am sore after using it! I feel that this is probably the best fitness game on the market right now. It is a great application of the Kinect technology, and it provides a great, personalized workout in the privacy of your own home. I am very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Fun, accurate, and challenging
Your Shape is my favorite of the three XBox exercise games that I own. There is lots of variety, a good level of intensity (I've always exercised regularly and am in pretty good shape, and I get a great work-out from this game), and I love the tracking where you see your entire body on the screen right next to the trainer, so you can really evaluate how well you are doing. Your Shape has the most specific feedback on how to improve your performance on the exercises- I actually find the trainer comments to be very helpful, not annoying as they often are in the other programs, and I can use them to quickly improve how I am doing each exercise. It really is like having your own personal trainer. The trainer sets a good pace for the work-out and is easy to stay in rhythm with. I find these trainers to be the easiest to follow along with of the three exercise games I have (Your Shape, EA Sports Active, and UFC Personal Trainer). I also find this to be the most accurate in sensing my movements correctly, with no problems whatsoever in a a fairlay small work-out space (about seven or eight feet from the sensore to the wall). I like how the game keeps track of my progress, and has lots of choices for each work-out- even in personal trainer mode, you can choose to do your pre-set workout, or you can pick something different each time. I especially enjoy the Michelle Bridges workout programs. Other personal trainer choices include cardio, toning, and programs by other fitness experts. You can also play gym games or do yoga, cardio boxing, and other activities. The personal trainer programs I have tried don't have the level of warm-up and cool-down that the other Kinect exercise programs do, so you need to do that part on your own, but I prefer it this way because you can do however many sessions you want in a row and keep your heart-rate up the whole time without having to skip through the warm-up and cool-down. I also find that even with programs that have warm-up and cool-down, there is still not nearly enough stretching so you have to do your own anyway. Overall, I strongly recommend this program for great work-outs and lots of choices. I rate this one first, EA second, and UFC third, for people like me who have a fairly small work-out area, are in moderately good shape, and like variety. ... show more

  • Not as glitchy as it used to be
I like this game. I'll be honest initially I did not think I would. I bought it because I found it was one of the other games that I could get for free through one of Amazon's 2 for 3 promotions and I did not expect to get much out of it besides some points added to my Gamerscore. When I first bought it, it was a little glitchy, but that may have been because of the Kinect since then Microsoft has released an update and I haven't had many glitch related problems. My major problems with the game is that every so often between routines in personal training that it takes ten or so seconds longer to load. I know that this may not seem like such a big thing, but it is annoying mid-workout that you are just standing there thinking do I have enough time to reach for my water bottle before it starts up or will it start up right as I do so (not that it doesn't allow enough to drink at certain points). The next problem I have with it is that there are not many gym classes available; sure they have cardio boxing (my personal favorite) and zen classes, but not much else without DLC. Then there is the Bollywood dance class (DLC) it doesn't really give you step by step instructions for the moves, but you have to observe and hope you are mimicking the weird somewhat Spanish looking instructor (this is unrelated, but I wished we could change certain instructors or customize them). As for the gym classes that come with the game (Cardio Boxing and Zen) they are pretty fun. I am not going to deny that they are a little annoying when you are taking a class (Cardio Boxing in this case) and you are doing the Boxers combo (this is the set that tends to be much more challenging for myself and my friends on silver or higher) and you are trying to match the instructor's speed and it seems like you are not going fast enough or you are going too fast. I would have liked that the instructor would have been able to adjust its speed to the player not to the point where it is easy or not challenging, but so that it doesn't seem like such a daunting task. As for the Zen class, I have no complaints it is fun and a little basic (not in a bad way). Now the personal training section is more varied then the gym classes so the player has more choices. This game is advertised as the player will never have to do the same workout twice, but that is a little deceptive. Most of the time you will be doing the same workouts (I consider each one as an individual workout regardless if they are four minutes or thirty minutes long). I don't really care for the gym games; they seem a little Wii-ish by not really being serious. I imagine that many will find them fun or a good way to warm up, but I skip them. Now here is the section where I say where Your Fitness Evolved can be improved. First in gym classes, perhaps more workout style classes and more relaxing classes like Tai Chi or Yoga. I really wish there was a warm-up section so that you don't pull anything. More customization! I get a little tired of looking at the same (mostly) white background all the time. I wish you could have different environments. Finally the score. What I really liked about this game is that it made me want to work out more (not at first, about a week or two after playing) and I enjoyed seeing how many calories I was burning each day, but at the same time it was a little annoying where you are kicking (etc) before the instructor and it counting against you, I'd rather not have to adjust to the game by trying to get more out of my workout. So four stars (overall) sounds fair to me because the game doesn't come with a lot unless you want to buy DLC and there are times where it feels like you are in sync with the instructor, but it not registering (which could be a Kinect problem). And five stars for how fun it is, but not always, there are times (especially when you start out) where you feel like it is the most tedious thing you have ever done, but the more you play the more you have fun. ... show more

  • Needs work on glitches...
I originally gave this game 4 stars but had to come back and change it to 3. PROS: This game is a definite advantage over just doing any old aerobic or toning DVD that doesn't track your moves. I was really sore the next day after doing my first workout with it, and it took a few days to work the soreness out of the muscles I obviously haven't been used to using... CONS: Certain exercises can be glitchy with the Kinect sensor. For instance, it picks up jumping jacks, lunges, and dodge squats with side punches perfectly, but it will NOT pick up the tap toning exercises or some of the Zen movements correctly no matter how you try to move to get them to pick up. One user commented on wearing tight-fitting clothes, as wearing loose-fitting clothes will give you the comment to continually widen your stance. I'll definitely try that next time. Doesn't correctly pick up rhythm. I know I can't be moving that far out of sync or rhythm! I've tried this with both the sensor at 2-3 feet off the floor and at eye level, and it makes no difference in how it picks up. It is frustrating to get a low percentage rate on those movements when you know you are doing them correctly. Monotony in exercise routines. Keeps making you do the same exercises over and over and over. Who wants to continually do 8 lunges over and over for each exercise? A break in between 8 lunges on each leg would be nice. One user commented that they lost credit for doing an entire routine and felt like crying. I will too if this happens to me. Needless to say, I'm looking into getting the EA Sports 2 to see if I like it better, as I'm becoming more and more disappointed in YSFE. I'm hoping Ubisoft will send a glitch fix download through Xbox Live soon! SUMMARY: Other than the cons mentioned above, everything else seems to work okay and it gives you a decent workout. If Ubisoft sends patches soon for the glitches, I'll be more satisfied with the game. So far, I'm getting about as decent a workout with Kinect Sports as I am with YSFE. If no patches become avaiable soon, this game may end up being traded in for EA Sports 2. Add-on 01/18/2011: Tried wearing tighter-fitting clothes last night, and it did seem to pick up my moves a bit better. The Zen exercise still stinks, though. I don't know how in the world to get it to pick up my moves correctly on those. VERY FRUSTRATING! So far, the cardio boxing routines seem to pick up your moves the best overall! ... show more

  • Best exercise option for Kinect by ar
I did a bunch of research online for exercise games, including looking at other platforms (I own a first-gen 360.) . I decided, albeit apprehensively, to try Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. Needless to say, it was a great decision. Fitness Evolved is everything it needs to be, and nothing it doesn't need to be. You won't find tons of fun games to play here - there are a few "fitness games." Honestly, that's not a bad thing, because it makes you focus on your personal training regimen that the game custom picks out for you. The description above about tracking a million points on your body may seem a bit over-the-top and gimmick-y, but my wife and I own this game and Kinect Adventures, and the difference in body recognition/tracking is very noticeable. Make no mistake - this game will wear you out. Fast. If you are faithful to play frequently/regularly, it can truly help you get in shape. There are lots of different options like cardio workouts, toning workouts, sculpting workouts, fat-burning workouts, and many other styles of exercises. The game really can track your movements very well, and its pretty easy to follow the trainer (i've never had any experience with fitness videos/workout videos whatsoever and I can keep up). The only thing I would say that is a drawback is you MUST have a nice big space to play in - my wife and I live in a one bedroom apartment and we have barely enough space that Kinect specifies (6 foot wide by 8 foot deep). You need more than that. Some of the exercises include jumping jacks and lunges, and its super easy to get too close to the kinect sensor. If you get too close, the game will almost instantly lose track of you, and that gets pretty annoying. You can be in perfect rhythm with the trainer and it won't recognize you. Which, incidentally, means you have to do more reps of whatever workout you are currently doing. A blessing in disguise, perhaps? ;). The game tracks you quite well though as long as you are in that range - unlike most of the reviews for EA Active 2 et. al. That does not take away from the game's ability to give you a solid workout without having to subject yourself to the annoyances of a typical gym or the sheer expense of a home gym. If you have some small hand weights, that can make the workouts even more effective. It's worth the 40 bucks it costs, and you don't have to pay that every month. Overall, I am very pleased. ... show more

  • Tremendous Real World Workout
I received an X-Box 360 as a surprise Christmas present from my partner. On Christmas Day I ordered this game using a gift card and received it a on 12/28. Since that day, I have used the game 5-6 times a week and as of 2/6, I have lost 18 pounds. My belly is dissapearing, and I had to run for a train on Friday and didn't get winded for the first time in decades! Gyms have never works for me. My treadmill, stationary bike, and free weight stay unused. But this game is perfect for me. The immediate feedback in the game from the "trainer", the calorie buring information that I can use in a food diary web site (I use [...]), the YourShape web site that can precisely track what I've been doing all work together to keep me motivated when nothing else ever could. The routines are fun, the music is catchy. It just works. The game has a few issues, but none are deal breakers. The navigation system is a little clunky and it takes a few minutes to get to start your routine. I see some people complain about not being tracked properly, but as long as I keep the lighting in the room high it's not an issue. I wish there were longer routines, but I compensate just by doing 2 back to back (usually from 30-40 minutes a day). There isn't enough weight training, but I am hoping that 6-12 downloadble routines the company promises this year will correct that. The only big flaw that hasn't been addressed is the lack of floor excercises for your abs -maybe the downloadable stuff will address this too. I also wish the in game representation of me could be a lot clearer and more real world like. So if you're a couch potato who wants to get motivated and nothing else worked, this might work for you too. I am on track to get to my goal of 200 lbs by April 9th! I love this game! ... show more

  • Software bugs in the game with no support from the developer and no desire to collect the info in the bug in order to fix it.
I experienced the same issue as described by several people here that gave the game one star rating: after playing the game for a while it stops saving your progress and starts giving you the same exercises every time you start the game. I experienced the problem twice - the first time I thought that the issue was not a big deal, created a new profile and started the game from scratch (which meant that all the unlocked exercises that I had were locked again and I had to repeat all the levels from the beginning to unlock them). After playing the game with a new profile for a while I encountered the same issue. This time I decided to contact Ubisoft to see if there is a solution to the problem. And now is the reason I am giving this game a one star rating: The customer support was horrible. I contacted ubisoft via a chat on their website. The phone support is not available and to get a chat support you need to set up an account on their website. The first advice the reps gave me was to delete the game and reinstall it. I asked whether this procedure would keep all my saved progress so far and was assured that the deletion of the game and re-installation would not affect the saved user data. I decided not to follow their advice without backing up the data first and created a back up. The following day I contacted ubisoft via a chat again and asked about the re-installation instructions and asked again whether the existing saved data would be affected or not. I was assured the second time that the saved data would not be affected since it is stored in a different location. I followed the rep instructions on deleting the game and restarting it and as I suspected all the saved data was deleted and I had to start the exercise program from scratch. Luckily for me I backed up the data on a USB drive, so I restored it. When I rerun the game it still had the same problem - the game was no longer storing the new results. I contacted ubisoft again via another chat and after expressing my disappointment about the fact that the previous two agents I spoke with gave me an advice that would have deleted all my progress (which is an issue that deserves a separate review of Ubisoft) I asked what other solution they would offer. The representative's response was that since the "re-installation" of the game did not solve the problem the data on my xbox 360 must had been corrupted and there is no way they could solve it. To summarize, Ubisoft customer support approach to address bugs in their software consists of two steps: 1. Reinstall the software 2. If the re-installation does not solve the problem, there must be corrupt data and it is not Ubisoft's problem. They suggested that I bring my Xbox 360 and the game to a local store to see if it can be tested there. I understand that many games have software bugs and the problems happen once in a while, but I expected that the customers who experience difficulties are at least treated with some level of respect when they contact the support. ... show more
