You and Your Partner, Inc. is a guidebook for couples challenged by the complexities of their personal and business partnership. Whether in business or contemplating combined ventures together, it helps them better navigate through the dynamics of making it all work. The co-authors, partners for more than 30 years in life and in business, have identified the seven key strategies used by successful entrepreneurial couples. These guidelines can offer personal learning opportunities to grow professionally while developing a deeper relationship with each other. The benefit can extend to families and friends, thereby widening circles of influence and social impact. However, the balance needed to maintain success in all areas is a delicate one. You and Your Partner, Inc. has attempted to capture the complexities that span marriage, partnerships and family business. Highlighting real life situations, they offer discussions anyone can follow. Couples already working together will also find authentic examples of how to take their venture to a higher level of accomplishment. • Do not buy digital copy from Amazon!!!!!
This book is probably great, but I have not had a chance to read it yet because the digital copy is awful. Chapter titles and the first part of each chapter is literally missing.

  • Not too helpful
I bought this book to really learn about what and what not to do to make a successful relationship both in business and with your partner. The content of this book was maybe 3 sentences every chapter on key things, and then the other 15 pages were just stories other couples tell. I didn't want to read other people stories. If you want to read about other people then this is the book for you. Not a lot of content for me though. (I only read the first chapter and gave up). ... show more

  • Learning from Experience
Anyone who has wondered about the feasibility of going into business with a life partner--or who has marveled at the resilience and success of other couples who have made this choice--will find this book a useful source of reflection and perspective. Blending the curiosity of social anthropologists with the insight that has made them so successful as coaches and therapists--and business partners themselves--Miriam Hawley and Jeffrey McIntyre have assembled a bountiful collection of instructive first-person vignettes. From the many people they interviewed we learn about what drives successful couples, about the flexibility required in balancing complementary skills and roles, about the kind of clear and authentic communication that serves as the glue in these integrative enterprises. The central theme that emerges out of the diversity in these stories is one of celebration. In choosing to work together in service to their customers and clients, the "copreneurs" interviewed have found yet another way to express and deepen their love for each other. As one man observes, "The business is both a means to an end and an end in and of itself, because it's a platform for us to be and work together." Of course, the stories also reveal some of the formidable challenges and tough choices that come with complex layers of partnership. But by entering into those challenges with a learner's spirit, these couples have demonstrated how the business of working together can be an enlivening process. For the couple who says, "We continue to create our relationship and our lives with an awareness of the influence of the larger world," their shared enterprise is clearly not just about making a living, but about making a life--together. ... show more

  • I was inspired
I wasn't sure at first that I wished to read this book - I, after all, do not own a business with my partner! But I was immediately inspired by the stories in "You and Your Partner, Inc." I am a business owner, and the stories reminded me of how enriched I am by owning a business. One of the book's messages - that charting our lives is a creative process, and that entrepreneurship is a great vessel for all of our creativity, in business and in relationships - really resonated with me. The executive coach in me valued the emphasis on clean communication as an essential success factor. Hawley and McIntyre truly celebrate all the mysteries and complexities of life. I have a hunch you will be inspired, as well! ... show more
