This was purchased for portable and emergency fast charging for cell phones - e.g. work great on my Samsung Galaxy S8, but also any other USB powered gear. The USB socket device is designed for use with battery and other 12V to 24V DC power sources. I replaced the ring lugs with Johnson power pole 30A connectors for easy hookup to amateur radio power supplies in bench and portable environments. The unit has an LED display of input voltage from the power source. This provides good information about how your power source is doing against the charging load. I notice fluctuation in voltage, likely in response to the quick charging regime. The charging voltage thus provides an indication of the state of charge if you know what to look for in your equipment. Most simple power supplies do not have voltmeters built in, so this unit adds that feature. The design is practical and rugged and while I got it for the portable and emergency use cases, this may find it's way into every day use on the workbench.

The cigarette lighter in my 1968 Buick caught on fire and being as I don't smoke I decided to replace it with a USB port hub. Since we're currently living in 2021 and USB in a car is pretty much an essential component to have I wanted to make sure I got the right thing. I ended up choosing this one because it has an aluminum housing and a lot of others that I saw were entirely plastic, and honestly I wasn't interested in anything made completely out of plastic. So I bought this and it took about a day to arrive which was cool. I took out my Dremel and honestly only had to remove a little bit of burnt plastic to get it to fit in the old cigarette lighter hole. I managed to work the locking ring around the back of the port which was honestly a little challenging with the two inch gap I had to move my fingers around in, but I'd imagine on any vehicle that isn't old as dirt you could probably remove a panel pretty easy and put this where you wanted it with a decent amount of room to work with. The new charger fits wonderfully and pretty much hides all of the burn damage that was visible on the dash. Currently it's wired to only be on when the car is in accessory mode or on completely, and I would recommend others do the same to avoid battery drain. (You can see in the image I attached it's displaying no power and has no light on because the vehicle is off). If I have any issues I'll make sure to update the review but currently I'm pretty satisfied and now I can run Spotify wherever I'm in the car, have my tunes, and also not worry about running out of battery (I've got an older iPhone 7 and it drains pretty quick unfortunately).

The plastic material used seems pretty thick and solid. The connecting wires are 16 awg with an inline glass fuse of 10 amps, which is fine , but were not long enough for my application, so I made my own 14 awg with inline fuse of 10 amp. One of the other things I noticed is how long the item is , it was quite difficult to find a spot that this would fit in an Auto application , ultimately I did end up finding a spot where I can see the numbers and charge my devices/phones etc, without the terminals in the back jabbing into something, not a deal breaker just make sure you look for a spot that can go that deep and still connect your wires. The diameter is pretty big as well , I did end up drilling a new hole with a step bit I ordered off Amazon as well (1/4 to 1-3/8 in 1/8th increments) it needs a slightly bigger hole than a 1 inch so the step bit worked perfect for this and cuts a cleaner hole in the plastic trim. Blue Lighting on the volt meter could be slightly brighter but it was daylight when I looked at it so might look better at night time. The locking ring and the hole (needs to be tight) you drill for this keeps it from rotating at all.

I installed this in the upper fairing on my KLR 650 using a hole saw and it has been a great dual-port charger! Quality: 4/5 The housing is plastic, and the mounting ring to hold it against a panel felt a little weak, but it has held up wonderfully against driving rain, water crossings, desert dust, multiple drops and impacts, and sunlight. The terminal clamp connectors were quality and I haven't had any issues with wires coming loose. The voltmeter readout is difficult to read in direct sunlight, but this hasn't impacted me too much. Electrical Power: 5/5 No issues with devices overdrawing the transformer, even with two devices charging at max rate. It gives clean, reliable power, and the voltmeter readout is very closely calibrated with my multimeter (+/- 0.1V). Ease of Install: 5/5 The locking ring and quick-disconnect clamps make installing it behind a panel really easy! The diameter fits nicely with a hole saw hole with minimal sanding to get it to fit, so that was another nice feature. Overall, good quality product, and I look forward to many years of adventure biking while charging my devices from this charge port!

I installed this on my center console boat and it works great. I have a dual battery system so whenever I turn on the battery switch I can clearly see what the volts are for either battery. Highly recommend installing this on any boat so you can keep a close eye on your voltage at all times.

I wish the LED display color was selectable because a reflection of a blue LED display in my windshield or rearview is the last thing I want while driving at night. However the charge port does charge my phone quite quickly and is easy to install. I actually just got 2 more to install in a few more of our vehicles.

Really great quality - operates great. Need to be aware that will drain battery over time, should be installed on regular drivers. Should have a bracket for installation on motorcycle. Highly visible display, charges great. Wiring is heavy, but needs to be longer.
