  • These seem well constructed and sturdy. Directions could be better.
Size: 25” Color: Blue
I will have to wait for snow to give these a fair test. Here are my first impressions, along with a preliminary four-star rating. I'll adjust that when the weather gods give us some snow. To be honest, I am a rank beginner with snow shoes (if you don't count those couple of times I fooled around as a little kid with my friend's dad's way-too-big-for-me antique Adirondack wood and leather snow shoes.) Right out of the box, these seem a little heavy, but I have nothing to compare them to. The directions are somewhat inadequate, but I think that after a little head-scratching, I have it figured out. There are three straps -- one for the heel and two to go over the boot. The straps over the boot are clever. Each has two levers, one inside the other. Pushing up (i.e., toward the top of the boot) on the smaller, inner lever, allows the strap to slide freely into the buckle until taut. Pushing up on the larger, outer lever, works to ratchet the strap tighter. (There are tiny numbers on the strap, apparently to assure that both snowshoes are equally tight.) Pushing once again on the smaller lever releases the strap. The heel strap works like a belt buckle, with a metal tab that fits into a hole on the strap, which then doubles back on itself. The strap is held in place by two clips that also prevent a sliding heel pad from moving out of place. There is a metal bail under the boot heel that can be raised to a vertical position, tilting the heel of the boot upward a few inches to give the snowshoer a more level foot position when climbing a steep hill. All told, the binding assembly seems substantial, secure and adjustable, while able to rotate freely up and down along an axle near the toe according to the snowshoer's steps. The trekking poles are pretty basic-- in a good way. They telescope to adjust length by flipping two levers open, sliding the pole to the desired length and reclamping the levers. I like this better than the sleeker, but often unreliable, design where the pole itself twists to lock and unlock. The poles have a walking cane type of tip which can be pulled off and replaced with a ski pole basket that slides onto the pole and screws onto threads a few inches up the shaft. I can't wait to give these a serious workout. (It's spitting snow right now, but nothing big is predicted.) ... show more

  • Excellent value!
Size: 25” Color: Blue
I have not had the chance to try these on snow yet as this winter has been slow in our area, however, I am not new to snowshoes and own several pairs. I primarily got these to keep on deck for my wife, or for a friend that wants to come along on a winter hike. These are a very good choice to get you going! The included carrying case and trekking poles are also a nice touch and something that was not included with my 3x more expensive "premium" pair of snowshoes. I am impressed overall, but did find a few areas that may be of concern in the long run. The snowshoes themselves are pretty solid. A lightweight and sturdy aluminum frame, all metal hardware, well secured compliant plastic webbing, grippy foot pad, beefy straps, and a climbing aid. My main concern with the snowshoes is the buckles and straps. The plastic ratchet mechanism works smoothly in the house, but experience dictates that these may become an issue on colder days, or in wet snow. Only time will tell, on this front. The rear strap adjustment is a bit finicky, but typical for a snowshoe at this price point. Instructions could be improved, especially for the rear strap adjustment. The trekking poles are... OK. The clamps require a bit of fiddling to get them to hold at different lengths. They will work just fine, but be advised to first leave leave them out to cool to ambient temperature, and then load them up to see if they hold. Tighten up the clamps if they don't hold BEFORE you head out on the trail. The good: -Sturdy aluminum frames -All metal hardware -Ratcheting buckles -Climbing aide -Beefy straps -Built-in crampon (pretty standard) -Carrying Case and Trekking Poles included. The Bad: -Fiddly rear strap -Plastic buckles -Less then clear instructions -Trekking pole adjustment clamps are questionable For a $60 pair of snowshoes, these are fantastic. I wouldn't choose these to take on a 2 week backcountry tour, but as a starter set, or to keep in the trunk for a friend to use on a day hike, these are perfect! ... show more

  • My first pair
Size: 25” Color: Black
Since I have never had or used snow shoes before, the lower score probably has more to do with that than the shoes themselves. They were pretty straight forward on getting in and they did include instructions for reference. All the mechanisms worked and it was more of me getting used to the motion. It seems to have enough teeth on the bottom for grip and the overall construction looked and worked well. The only thing I thought or noticed was that the buckling didn’t look as high quality as I would expect, but, at least for me, I think these will work well for learning. ... show more

  • Made well But....
Size: 25” Color: Blue
Overall, these snowshoes are very well made, and I love the Blue frame and I like that they provide a carrying bag for poles and shoes. I look forward to getting to use them once we get our snowfall. The only downside to these is the bindings. I'm used to a one-handed pull for toes and heals straps and these are a buckle system which requires 2 hands and a lot of fidgeting to get them placed on my shoes to fit. The buckles also feel like they aren't durable based on the material. Time will tell. ... show more
