My boyfriend and I like to play chess and we always worry about the board and pieces being too cheaply made and too small of a platform to use as well as simply losing the pieces, as we tend to do with many things in our home; we also have a kitten so she gets fresh and curious and will dismantle anything she finds to be important to us for attention or as something she thinks she can play with. Anyway, he was really excited when he opened it and we put it together to see how it would be in a playable setting. He expressed how much he thought it was so cool and simply loves the size as well as it being magnetic to cut down on the stress of losing the pieces as easily. The only thing we would suggest is something each player could magnetize the pieces to while playing in order to still keep all pieces together as each person gains chess board territory. ... show more

Got this as an additional xmas stocking filler for my boy (15) and he was immediately draw to it (it is really cute &all). He quickly found someone to play with him which was the first time he's played in a long time. He kept finding more people to engage and is really hooked. He's even playing online now. We had a roadtrip and one of his friends came along. They played the whole 3 hours and the magnetics saved them from losing any pieces off the board. I love finding something like this that provides life experiences like this. I'm watching increased social outreach and interaction, and his game is getting so improved (he talks about pinning and forking and planning ahead) that I'm not sure I want to play him (I need to practice!) ... show more

Works as expected. I use it at home, at the park, and in waiting rooms. The magnets are strong enough to hold the pieces in place, but don't expect it to maintain the pieces in position when it's windy if you're using it outside.
