It's currently freezing where I live and I don't have a greenhouse, but I wanted to get an early start on planting this year so I thought I'd give soil blocking a shot. I don't have a ton of space and I hate plastic and plastic waste, so this method is ideal for me. There's really no learning curve with this tool. It's made well, works well, contains very little plastic and was very affordable. The soil is where the learning comes in. It needs to be very wet and not just any soil will do. I've been practicing with different mixtures and once I got that right, it was smooth sailing. This tool makes nice, tight blocks. For what I'm using it for, 2" blocks are perfect, but if you plan to do a lot of seed starters or propagation, you could use smaller blocks. I'll probably order a second one. This is so much easier than the plastic seed starter containers. It’s foolproof and I appreciate being able to make multiple size holes. This will be so much easier. Now I can have everything done in half the time and way less mess.
