Description

A masterful combination of classically modernist inspiration with comfortable California twenty-first-century living. Architects Brett Woods and Joseph Dangaran are devotees of midcentury modernism who are committed to expressing classic modern tenets in a manner perfectly suited to twenty-first-century living. In addition to restoring multiple 1960s houses, including Craig Ellwood’s 1965 Moore House, Woods + Dangaran have created spectacular new residences that have made them one of the newest stars on the Los Angeles architecture scene. As C Magazine noted, “Brett Woods and Joseph Dangaran are continuing the spirit of California’s great builders, designing for future decades.” Woods + Dangaran favors rich color palettes and materials, metals that shine, leathers that soften, and clean lines that reveal their work’s modernist soul. The homes they design are filled with vintage furniture and rugs juxtaposed against custom finishes and details to feel contemporary yet classic and familiar. As Woods stated in Architectural Digest, “There’s no contradiction in building something modern and building something that people can live in. You don’t need to sacrifice the virtues of comfort and graciousness to feel attuned to contemporary life.” Read more

  • The Future of Mid-Century Modernism Comes Alive!
Format: Hardcover
This book is full of beautifully crafted projects, one better than the next, that encapsulate the essence of Mid-century Modernism in Southern California but also work for today's lifestyles. The work is exquisite, thoughtful and elegant, made even more amazing through the lens of photographer Joe Fletcher. I have bought many copies of this book for friends and relatives. It makes a great addition to any library or a lovely gift. ... show more

  • Book content fine but I've bought 2 and both came damaged and Amazon wont let me return.
Format: Hardcover
I'm on my 2nd try buying this book as a gift. Both times the book has come damaged to where I would never give as a gift. Amazon let me return the first book but not the replacement. Overall the book seems fine. It's rather small compared to other books highlighting architect's work. My negative comment is really that I'm stuck with this book in a damaged condition. ... show more

  • Book is great - shipping was not.
Format: Hardcover
My architect husband loved the book. Only issue was that this large hardcover was shipped in a paper mailer. It arrived with bent corners and a damaged spine. Shipping in a box with packing materials could have prevented this damage.
