I had purchased two other smaller units, which I no longer use, as this one is much larger so easier to read. I have it mounted to the stove pipe off our whole house wood stove in the basement. I also have two electronic thermocouple readouts on the unit, one up stares and one downstairs, as I'm always careful not to get the stove too hot. This Wood Stove Thermometer shows the safe operating range and has helped me line out the stove to keep the temp low enough to heat the house without overheating as it surely can, thus conserving on wood in the process. Edited to add that the seller reached out to me to offer a refund. I didn’t expect that with something so inexpensive. It was very generous, and their communication was quick, clear and respectful. The thermometer was still not great, but I am increasing my rating for the seller since they were so quick to make it right. We ordered this and used it for the first wood stove fire of the year. On it’s very first day, the temperature probe rotated ALL the way to the far aide of the red zone, even though the fire was nowhere near that hot, and stayed there. We didn’t use the wood stove again for a week, but a week later it was still rotated all the way to the red. As the stove pupe began to heat, the dial started turning into the bottom black quarter (6 o’clock position). It cannot even be rotated into the green quarter by hand and stay there. It’s completely useless for a temperature reading or even an estimate, and not fixable. I cannot recommend this product. ... show more
