  • Great for puzzles or hidden locks
Item Package Quantity: 1 Color: Black
The product is exactly as advertised. You get an RFID reader attached to a very simple locking mechanism. The locking mechanism is spring loaded and will forcibly eject the latch, which can either be useful or inconvenient depending on the application. You can power the lock with either a (very short) USB cable or two AA batteries. The USB cable is standard USB 2.0 to a 2.5mm bipole, so you may need to hunt around if you're looking for a longer one. Programming the lock is extremely easy, and you can program other 125khz RFID items like stickers. Perfect for if you want your unlocking item to be inconspicuous (i.e. not a fob or a card). You can pick up a pack of 10 stickers for $10 elsewhere on amazon, just search for 125khz rfid sticker. The lock comes with two cards and two fobs, but no stickers. It is annoying that the program button is on the opposite side from the latching mechanism. That means that if you want to reprogram and you've lost your master card you'll need to drill a hole for the reset button or unmount the lock to get at the reset button. On the plus side, the device keeps RFID signatures even when the batteries are removed, although I have not yet tested to see how long it retains programming. The mounting hardware is sparse, but functional. The hatch is stamped metal inside rigid plastic, so it won't stand up to any type of realistic forced entry. But that's to be expected. This isn't for high-security applications, it's for hidden applications or keeping honest people honest. If you are looking to use this in a puzzle (e.g. escape room, puzzle box) then you'll probably want to open it up to disable the speaker so the solvers can't get extra information, and you'll probably want to buy a longer USB cord (or really hope the batteries don't fail). There's not much more that one can expect from this item at this price point. If you're looking for an inexpensive way to hide a locking mechanism, then this will do the job. ... show more

  • For the price you literally can not do better
Item Package Quantity: 1 Color: Black
Not usually one to write reviews but figured I’d write one for this if you’re in a position I was looking for a solution. I ordered these to attached to an ikea cabinet which I would be using to store items I did not want guests or maintenance entering my apartment to accidentally come across. Ease of Installation: Installation is really straight forward, like really straight forward. If you have any semblance of common sense you will have zero issues installing it to a cabinet, drawer etc. Ease of programming: Again, ridiculously straight forward, programming a master key for the two locks I purchased, then individual keys for each lock took me less than 10 minutes. All it takes is following simple 1,2,3 instructions. Programming is a little more involved if you want to use the advanced features (dual key access) but still easy enough. Durability and functionality: Had mine for roughly 2 weeks now, opening and closing each cabinet door several times a day with both the master key and the individual keys, not one issue has appeared. Locks do not shift nor do they need to be adjusted as long as you use the included hardware. And this is with my both slamming the cabinet door shut on my way past it and gently closing it. Its been handled gently and abusively and has stood up to the test with zero issues. Battery Life: Can’t speak to that but like I said have had one of the locks for two weeks opening several times a day and not a problem yet. The instructions mention that once battery is low you will hear an audible long beep after opening it at which point you should soon after replace the battery. Then it will pop open on its own to avoid locking itself with dead batteries. Overall its a great little security feature for 12-15 bucks. ... show more

  • Fantastic RFID lock
Item Package Quantity: 1 Color: Black
We got this as a trial wanting to lock an antique cabinet. Installation was a wee bit of a challenge, not because of the lock, but because of the cabinet. We did not want to change the appearance, or basic function of the cabinet. After a bit and a few choice words not fit for reviews, I had it installed. Man am I impressed!! Not expecting much at this price point, it is doing the job fantastically. The cabinet has not changed, but is locked and with a swipe of a card POP! it's opened! The only issue I have, and this was addressed in the documentation, is the cards work, but the fobs do not. This is very dense wood. So I will be ordering 2 or 3 additional access cards. Now I'm looking around the house to see where I can add more of these!!....Thank You!! ... show more

  • Do not buy this product.
Item Package Quantity: 1 Color: Black
This product is very cheaply made do not buy this product. Upon arrival the power inlet was not secured inside the device and this made the wall outlet power option useless. Having years of experience with electronics repair with the military. I decided to open the device to see if I could manage to connect the power cable. Further inspections inside the housing revealed that the inlet was poorly secured from the manufacturer with hot glue and was completely loose inside the housing. I was able to connect power to the device and it worked for 4 or 5 uses until the locking mechanism stopped working properly. I did manage to resolve this but, I had to reset the device and reprogram the cards to get the lock to funtion properly again. Even when it did work you could not relatch it for 15-30 seconds which I found to be slightly annoying. Within a few hours after being satisfied with the installation, my 3 year old was able to pull the locked device open breaking the plastic lock housing. I am going to replace this with a magnetic lock because, it seems that any RFid lock at this price point are going to be cheap and poorly made. ... show more

  • Not a high security lock
Item Package Quantity: 1 Color: Black
Cons: 1) I could not buy more than one unit from the same seller. 2) the ears to hold screws to secure the lock to the wood are thin plastic...broke with a screwdriver 3) the 3m tape is handy, but it's very thin and light and didnt stick to my location (wood), so install was in need of a 3rd hand I didnt have. Pros: 1) it programs, locks and unlocks like a charm... very handy and does what it says. Price was not terrible. Overall... it is a working, hidden, keyless lock: what I needed. BUT the combination of pains such as cheap plastic where metal should be (a quick yank will literally break this thing), 3m tape that isnt guaranteed to do its job, And the fact that I have to buy from multiple sellers for each cabinet door really brings down the value. All in all I need this to keep the good guys out. Nor a high security lock and I dont intend to use it that way. That just meets the standard for me this go around. ... show more

  • Using to secure a cabinet door from the grandkids
Item Package Quantity: 1 Color: Black
I purchased 2 of these to secure a couple of cabinet doors from the grand kids. I have some upper cabinets where I store ammunition and other gun related stuff (cleaning supplies, ammunition, holsters, cases, extra magazines, etc.) that I don't want the kids getting into. These have worked out well. They of course are not security locks. They would be very easy to defeat for anyone intent on breaking into a cabinet, but to keep casual nosy kids out, they work well. They were very easy to set up. They come with 2 programable key cards and 2 programable key fobs. They operate on 2 AA batteries (not included). In the event of low batteries, the lock will automatically unlock. There is also a USB cable that will allow you to connect to a power source should the batteries go dead and the door is locked for some reason. Installation took some figuring. Trying to figure out the placement of the lock and latch inside a closed cabinet took some doing, but if this old retired prison guard can figure it out, most people should be able to make it work. This turned out to be a very inexpensive way to easily secure stuff I don't want the kids getting into while still allowing me ready access to it as I need. ... show more

  • Never forget where you hid your keys to open these locks.
Item Package Quantity: 2 Color: Black
These works great. Once installed it is hard to open when locked without a key. I like the fact that it has a setting where you have to have two types of different keys to open. The only problem I have with it is that I keep losing my keys resulting in my cabinets being locked all the time. LOL but that's my fault for forgetting where I hid them. Definitely worth your time and money. Read all the instructions when going to install it and make sure everything lines up. ... show more
