Juliet Diaz wrote this book in a very unique and very personal style. Not only does she cover topics any practicing witch should know, such as beginning ones magickal practice, grounding, raising energy, connection to the elements, and working with the moon. But she writes about enhancing your intuition and psychic abilities, including personal experiences throughout her life as a healer and seer. She was born into this, as her mother was, and her long line of ancestors were. She has also covered manifestation, along with many spells, and rituals. For me, her writing on protection, new beginnings, shedding and banishing anything/ anyone that is toxic and negative, and to make necessary changes to vibrate at your highest in order to have a clear mind to bring to your practice without a clouded mind. She gives you the tools needed to heighten your inner self and your mind, your "magickal strength" so many ways ( if you DO the work, with strong intentions, and dedication as every witch must do). She also shares her knowledge of herbs, connecting with your ancestors and harnessing their wisdom, and the responsibilities that come with walking whatever path you have chosen or may be thinking of if you are a novice witch. There is information for witches just beginning to practice: altars, purification and cleansing, casting circles, beginning your book of shadows and a grimoire. There is much more. needless to say, this book is quite special and has been written by a life long practicing witch with much knowledge and experience. Just because some basics are covered this does not mean it is a primer. This book is wonderful for any witch that has been practicing for a long time as well as a witch that is just beginning his or her path. So much love for Juliet for writing this book not only for what it contains, but her very personal connection which is so very evident in the way she has written this book.

I was a practitioner in my 20s and am just coming back to The Path now in my 40s, and have been looking everywhere for a book that resonates with me and my current reality. Books have a way of magically dropping into your lap when you need them, don't they. This has been that book for me. I preordered for Kindle, and at midnight, right when the book dropped, my furnace went out and woke me up, and I spent the wee hours reading through the first sections of this book. I SO appreciate that the author starts off with a focus on Root Work, that she understands and underscores the fact that the practitioner is the magic, that without digging deep and excavating and owning our true selves we can never produce truly effective magic. I also appreciate how clearly she has outlined the meditative practice, rituals, and spells, using simple ingredients with many options so that one can customize it to one's own practice. They truly feel like rites one can easily weave into the fabric of their day-to-day life, and I look forward to finishing the book and delving into all it has to offer more deeply. I will definitely return to share more once I have done so. In short, I can see this book being useful for both the beginner and the seasoned witch. And of course, also for someone like me, who had fallen away from their practice and is looking to brush off the cobwebs and dip their toe into those magical waters once more. It feels like a timely gift from the universe, and I am very grateful to the author for all the time, care, magic and love she has clearly poured into it.

This book is a labor of love that offers fresh, unique perspective on a variety of topics pertinent to the craft. Juliet comes from a line of witches and her belief system about witchcraft (which she was taught) is one that rings true for me and for so many other witches who are feeling the call to embody the witch, because Momma Earth is in trouble and needs us. She encourages you to build your own personal form of Magical Craft based on the ancient ways, but to also mold it accordingly, so that it’s genuinely a reflection of you. This makes for the most potent magick. Juliet encourages the reader to seek validation within, instead of outside oneself. Your truth is within you. The material is perfect for both new witches as well as more seasoned practitioners. I don’t know about you, but I am hungry for all kinds of books on witchcraft, because everyone has something to share that is unique. This book is well-organized with highlighted chunks of information throughout, allowing for skipping around and for going back to revisit content with ease. Gems within the pages: -defining what magick means and looks like for you -exploring different paths of being a witch and how to tailor them to yourself -wonderful witchy tips on how to let go of what no longer serves you, as it impedes magick -There are spells woven throughout the pages with explicit instructions. -ideas on uses for herbs, incense, essential oils, crystals, and candles within a variety of practices like meditation, grounding, raising one’s energy, amplifying intuition, and developing psychic ability -sections devoted to the moon and sabbat celebrations -other topics of interest: Book of Shadows, altars, spirit communication and psychic enhancement, protection, cleansing, witch’s garden herbs and their magickal properties (and spells you can do with them), writing your own spells, and more! What a fabulous little companion this book is turning out to be! Diaz clearly laid out her experience, her heart & soul, and her love into this one. Not just your average spell book, this witchy guide is great for the new witch, witch-curious, and the seasoned crone. She explains the little intricacies that many other books in the genre tend to miss- like “What Is Magick?”, Q&A for New Witches, Grounding, Raising Energy, The Art of Self Love. There are sections for practical magick, herbal magick, purification, creating your own spells, and more. My favorite is part 5- which goes in depth about practicing magick responsibly. I love that the book fits easily into my purse for witchery on the go. I’ve completed several of the spells and find them to be powerful and refreshing. Simple, workable, powerful, and no bs. This isn’t one of those books that you buy, flip through, and place on the shelf to gather dust. This book actually invites you to dive deep into practical, simple spells, using readily available tools and herbs, for REAL spiritual growth. I am in love with it and plan to use it for years to come!

4 stars - It was really good Witchery: Embrace the Witch Within was a wonderfully written and informative beginners book for witches. It covers the basics of magic, creating books of shadows and grimoires, ancestor magic, some beginner spells, and some ethical issues with practicing witchcraft. Diaz has a wonderful style of writing that is beautifully prosaic but also very easy to follow and understand. She easily breaks down the basics of witchcraft but also teaches valuable lessons about the importance of self-love and practice. Her section about harnessing ancestor magic was very helpful for me because I have little knowledge about this type of practice. She easily broke it down and provided simple and easier to follow ways to commune with my ancestors. Diaz provides a wide variety of beginner spells to practice to get your practice started. But I think it's important to know that some ingredients were not exactly beginner, or in the closet, friendly because they were not items that would be already in your spice cabinet or easily found at a local grocer, especially if you live out in a more rural area. Overall, this was a very good beginner book. I really enjoyed Diaz’s writing and will look into more of her books in the future.

I bought this book after meeting Juliet, at a time in my life when I was making good, intentional, coached progress in recovery from codependency, relationship abuse, drug misuse, and self-loathing. But I was still missing some critical piece to healing myself and restoring the connection to the Earth that I had thrived on since childhood. The moment I recieved this book I felt the need to hug it, and as I did so I began to weep. Loving energy poured out from the book to embrace and hold me as I let myself experience the impact of the loneliness and disconnect I had been living with for years, out of touch with our Mother Earth and myself, scared to step out onto the uncertain path of self-discovery, frightened of what I might find there. After a moment of embracing the book and being enveloped in its energy I felt a sense of peace, od freedom, and the hope that comes with them: I knew I was not alone and I had the courage to ask the questions, even if I feared the answers. I opened the book and began my journey. Through Juliet's writings I have reconnected with my spirit guides, my ancestors who I thought had been lost to me through neglecting my relationship with them but who, I have discovered, have never once been away from my side. I have deepened my meditation, grounding, and energy work practices, helping heal my body, mind, and soul, troubled as they are with chronic depression and anxiety. I have practiced channeling my grief, rage, pain, and exhaustion, transforming and releasing them to the benefit of my life, the lives around me, and Life itself. This book has changed my life: guiding me on my unraveling path of self-discovery and self-love and helping me channel the Power found therein into nourishing actions to heal our Mother and create the life I want. Power comes from self-knowledge; self-knowledge is a practice, not an accomplishment. In this book, Juliet guides you in the practice of following the unravelling path of self-knowledge with a clear and loving approach grounded in ancient wisdom and true insight. Thank you, Juliet, for all you have done for me through this book! Anyone wanting to know themselves and their inner Power better should read this book. Doing so is a gift to yourself and the world.

This review is long overdue, and I guess writing this over two years after I purchased this very necessary book speaks to its value and relevance for any practicing witch. "Witchery: Embrace the Witch Within" answered my needs within its very title, when it found me at a time I finally decided to submerge both of my feet into a choice I always feared, for fear of my own struggles with darkness and depression. Thanks to Juliet Diaz's simple but still profound set of guidelines in this book, I had a kind of "flashlight" through my personal journey. Not only does Diaz's pages "normalize" what is branded as "dangerous," she manages to offer specific experience, ancestral history, and a humble open mindedness that gives this ancient mystical blessing back to the Divine Feminine, back to good old fashioned personal empowerment, where witchcraft belongs. With the moon at my side, I left this book feeling safe, confident, and inspired to grow as a witch. Even still, I return to this book for guidance or comfort, and if I had to pick 5 essential texts for any lightworker or practicing witch, "Witchery" would be of that collection. Diaz's expertise, her specific but also broad framework that makes room for all walks of witch life, and her very personal voice are three of many reasons why I hold this text so dear. If you're at all practicing, buy this book. You won't be sorry, and interestingly, the book will find a way to speak to your individual learning needs at just the right time. (K.R.
