I've worn hair extensions on and off for years. I've tried braid-ins, tapes, clip-ins, and crochet hair, finally settling on hand-tied sew-in wefts. My usual routine is to spend $150 - $200 having them installed for a special occasion or vacation. Invariably, I take them out immediately after the event because I can't stand the itching and I have trouble sleeping on the on the lumpy beads and string. When I saw these new butterfly genius extensions, I realized they could be a game changer. Right out of the box, they were a perfect match for my hair color, but like almost all new extensions, they were extremely straight and shiny, which my hair is not. I shampooed and conditioned them before installation, and after air-drying they were slightly matte and a bit wavy, much like my own hair, only thicker and fuller. I imagine with the right product and a flatiron, they could be restored to their former straight glossiness, if that's what you want. They came with a latch hook, beads, and some hair clips, so I decided to try installing them myself, even though hairdressing is not exactly one of my skills. However, standing in front of my bathroom mirror with another mirror behind me, it was actually quite easy. If you get a friend or partner to help you, it would be a piece of cake. The package came with just enough hair for two rows, and I only wanted one, so it took me about an hour, including an initial learning curve. Some tips I picked up along the way: the hook they give you is great for teasing bits of hair through the holes in the OVO weft, but it's much too small for grabbing the hair from two or three holes to thread through a bead, and I was getting really frustrated. Then I remembered I have a hair extension loop tool for hair repairs, and that worked perfectly. I found that my bead pliers didn't supply enough compression on the beads, so I used my DH's smallest vise grip pliers to really crimp them down, making sure they laid flat against the weft. I used scissors to round off both ends of the weft, being careful not to cut into the holes. This prevents having sharp corners poke out around your temples and catch on your glasses or sunglasses. Additionally, I bought the extensions four inches longer than I actually wanted, so I could trim off the thinner ends then layer the extension a bit to bring out the wave so it would better blend with my natural hair. Hairdressers will often layer your own hair to prevent an obvious line where your hair meets the extensions, and IMO that's why when you take them out your hair looks thinner and scragglier than before. I've been wearing my new hair for six weeks now, which is a total record for me. This photo was taken right after I loosened the beads and pulled the extensions up, which took all of 15 minutes, even with replacing two beads I managed to damage with the pliers. For me, these extensions really are a game changer. I saved hundreds on professional installation, they don't itch, and they hardly shed at all. The foldover weft cushions the beads from chafing my scalp, and when I take off my hat or the wind blows, all that shows is hair - not shiny beads, lace, and string. To be clear, this review is for two different butterfly hair wefts from two different companies because to get a specific color, dark brown with Carmel highligjts. I had my hair stylist blend the two. They are PANEWAY OVO Butterfly Weft Hair Extensions Real Human Hair Layer Invisible Extensions. 20" color: #P2/8/T2 AND WIGER Butterfly Remy Human Hair Extensions Genius Scalp-simulated. 18" color: dark brown I purchased and had hair stylist install the wefts Jan. 29, 2026. I've had them in for 3 months and got the first move up needed on March 19, 2026. I was using butterfly wefts from Cinderella hair for many years (only a licensed stylist can purchase) and they are FAR more expensive than the PANEWAY and WIGER. The quality was inconsistent so I thought I'd give Amazon brands a try and my expectations were low. WOW! I am so happy with the hair for its high quality, longevity, color and texture. I will only use this hair from now on. The price is amazing too. Plus minimal shedding and curls good. My stylist is super impressed with them too, she said at first she was nervous about durability of the seams/rubber because she's seen some in the past that fall apart after awhile but she said these are holding up petfectly. ... show more

I originally purchased the 18 inch extensions, and fell in love with them. They blended well with my hair. I decided for my next order to get the 22 inches, and there was a noticeable difference. With the 18s, I only needed two rows and they blended seamlessly. With the 22s, I did three row and it’s still not blending the way I hope they would. The 22s are less dense for sure, and damage very easily (even using low heat, and heat protection). I always blend the extensions with a feather styling razor, but that did very little. I would say I have medium/fine hair and the extensions were more on very fine side ... show more

We bought this and had installed into my daughter’s hair. In the description, it clearly stated that the item would not cause an allergic reaction. But after a week she developed sores in her head from an allergic reaction. I paid a lot of money for the hair and the install just to have to take them out and in addition get a scalp detox due to pain and irritation. Do not recommend! ... show more

Before making up my mind to purchase this product, I heard that the hair installation was not very easy. However, I simply loved this design so much that I finally decided to give it a try. It turned out that my husband installed it for me in just 20 minutes. It was very simple. And just as it is advertised on the product page, it is very discreet and leaves no trace at all. Not at all what I thought the color would be its darker in the pictures, when received it was almost all platinum blonde. Will be returning one pack, will try to make due mixing the other pack with a different color.
