I have several smokers and generally prefer using my stick burners. But sometimes I prefer the convenience and ease of using a pellet smoker. So I’ve been looking at temperature controllers and fans lately to see if I could combine the two experiences. And it looks like I found exactly what I was looking for. I had been considering several but decided to go with Inkbird as I’ve used many of their products and have been generally satisfied. The item arrived quickly and the packaging was nice. I really appreciate the provided case for storage – my BBQ drawer in my kitchen is a bit of a mess now with a ton of probes and different remote thermometers, gloves, etc. I also appreciated that everything (except see below) was provided – a lot of companies don’t give you the power block. I opened up the package and was ready to roll in a few minutes. One note on that. I used this on a Horizon smoker. But it appears that I accidently bought the one for ceramic smokers and the Weber Smoky Mountain. Not a big deal. Even though the clip didn’t work, I was able to modify it fairly easily by using aluminum foil to close the holes in the door and the weight of the main unit kept the controller in place the entire time. But make sure you get the right one for your needs. I usually start my charcoal briquets with a chimney but decided to toss some briquets in the wood chamber with some kindling on top. The blower was able to light all of the briquets quickly and with ease. Going forward, this will likely be my primary use for the unit. The rest of it was good but this is one thing that will be really helpful in the future. The blower brought the smoker up to temp fairly quickly and then shut off when it hit the desired temp (or shortly before). One thing that I would do differently is set the briquets or wood in a serpentine type fashion so that I could time how they light. I didn’t realize this at first and lit all of the briquets, which resulted in a little bit more tending that I had planned. But a serpentine approach would work nicely as you could direct what the blower lights and avoid everything catching fire at once. The unit had strong build quality and withstood very high temps in the wood box without any issues. And the app was easy to use and synced in less than a minute and I was ready to roll. I did have a hiccup because I’m not a fan of reading instructions but it was fairly intuitive. The range was quite strong, with me being able to monitor from inside my house without any issues. One of the key features is its power. This isn’t a lightweight fan and was able to provide a strong flow of air – and it was easily adjustable if I wanted to do so on the fly. As the cook went on, I experimented with lowering the fan speed as it approached temp and it responded without issue. I appreciate the design of this blower, with it incorporating a built-in temperature control system, which monitors the smoker's internal temperature and automatically adjusts the airflow accordingly. This feature eliminates the need for constant monitoring and manual adjustments, allowing me to relax and enjoy the BBQ experience without worrying about temperature fluctuations. Another interesting feature is that it knows when the smoke chamber door is open. I have no clue how it does it but it does. Maybe it’s a sensor on the wire. Not sure but it’s a nice feature because it lets the unit know that the temp drop is because of the door being open rather than the fire dying and needing to be stoked. I was surprised at how quiet the fan was – I could not hear it over the normal outdoor sounds. A few times I walked over to make sure it was on and it was. The blower exceeded my expectations and will be part of my smoking repertoire in the future. And it will hopefully lead me to use the stickburner a lot more. ... show more

I modified my Weber Kettle to use this Smoker Controller. Used a 32 MM Drill bit to modify this Weber Kettle for this InkBird Smoker Controller. Used some High Temp RTV seal to bind to the grill and fastened with flush Cherry Rivets. Mod took about 1 hour super easy. This fan gets very accurate temps within minutes and makes the Weber Kettle work even more efficient. The fan is very quiet and the app is very easy to use. Gives you peace of mind and more time with my family while I smoke some meat. Love this product. ... show more

    • This controller makes grilling much easier.
I purchased this smoker controller because I was having problems keeping the temperature correct on my Komodo Joe Grill. It came with a very nice zippered case for storing the unit when not in use. I installed the controller on my grill the day I received it in about 5 minutes. The installation was straightforward and easy using the supplied adapters. I used my grill yesterday to cook a Boston butt for pulled pork barbecue. The controller was very easy use and did a good job keeping the grill temperature regulated properly. No more running back and forth checking and adjusting the grill vents with the grill getting too hot or too cool. I love the fact that I can monitor the temperature and control my grill remotely using my phone. A nice feature is that the temperature data is saved, so I can go back and look at the temperature of the grill during the entire cooking time. Another great feature is that it includes a temperature probe to monitor the temperature of the grill, plus 3 additional temperature probes for monitoring the meat temperatures. After using this device for a 13 hour cook and not having to constantly adjust my grill, I am already liking this controller and I will most likely be using my grill more often. I bought this about three weeks ago for my Char-Grill Acorn cooker/smoker. I'm quite pleased with it and recommend it for anyone with a bit of patience, It works well and consistently, maintaining temp pretty close to that set. I was able to smoke a small pork butt yesterday and only used about a pound of charcoal during a 10-hour cooking session! Instructions were a bit on the vague side. Fitting the adapter to the bottom vent was a bit of a challenge; once I figure out I needed to bend back the stop flange on the left end of the vent track, the big adapter slid in. But sinceit's a case of a straight frame sliding on a curved track, I bent theadapter's ears back just a smidgeon with a vise. It now fits in easily, but it's not a real tight fit. Sometime smoke comes out around the edges. However, this doesn't appear to be critical to temperature control. My most serious beef is that the fan appears to come on too strong too fast for a kamado-style cooker. This relatively rapid ramp-up reults in a temprature overshoot of as much as 30 degrees. It takes a long time for the temp to drop in a good kamado! However, it has not done any harm to the food. The instructions or the web site could be a bit more informative. Will the system workwith just the oven temp probe connected. Apparently not. Does the fan unit talk to your phone via Bluetooth or WiFi? It appears to be WiFi, which creates the question of what it uses bluetooth for. Finally, will the braided wires hold up if you close the lid of a kamodo cooker on them? It's pretty tight and there's not much of a gsket. ... show more
