  • Really Like These
Size: 9 Wide Color: W81 | Beige
Profile takes some getting used to, but love the toe room. I added an orthotic for arch support as I didn't want total zero drop feeling. I've been walking around the house all morning and find them very comfortable. Going to take them to Europe in a month and wanted something lightweight, good construction and on-trend. I generally wear an 8.5 in sneakers and have a narrow foot, but buy Medium. I bought the size 9 after reading reviews. The fit is good, especially with the orthotic inserted under the innersole. When standing, I have almost a thumb's width of room between toe and end of shoe which I like because I'll be doing a lot of walking. Although it say 'wide' in description, it is not wide width - only a generous toe box. ... show more

  • Best shoes ive ever owned, healed my Mortons neuroma
Size: 10 Wide Color: W81 | Brown Gum
Review after wearing these shoes almost every day for 6 months: Hands down these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, I have the tan and gum pair for daily wear and the all black pair for the gym. I started to get Mortons neuroma in my left foot and I went and bought expensive shoes with lots of padding and toe space, as well as several expensive insoles and nothing helped. When I started to go to the gym everyday I noticed my feet were hurting a lot MORE. So I decided to scrap that concept and try barefoot shoes. For the amazing price on these shoes, I decided to give them a try. In less than a week my pain went away and has only come back from wearing other shoes. I've worn these on trips to Mexico, hiking around California beaches and forests, to conferences in Atlanta, in wet cold weather and dry hot weather and they are great for everything. They do get wet quite easily so keep that in mind for long grass but they also dry very quickly. I actually prefer these to sandals in the summer because they keep the sun off of the feet and keep them cooler. Another massive plus - they pack down into practically nothing. So easy to bring on an airplane or backpacking. They show almost no signs of wear other than being a little dirty. As for sizing, I usually wear a 10.5, but I ordered the 10 wide and they fit perfectly. I will be a Whitin brand customer for life!!!! ... show more

  • Good value, true to size, wide and tall toebox
Size: 9 Wide Color: W81 | Grey Gum
These seem like a really good value for the money, given that I haven't had them long enough yet to know how long they will last. At least from from impressions, they seem to be pretty good quality for the money. They fit well for the expected size, and I like the looks and feel. The good: - Unlike another very similar looking style of Whitin that I tried and returned, these seem to run true to size for me. - I really like the toebox. It's both wide but also tall. I have a problem with some shoes that are wide enough, but not tall enough, so the top presses down on my big toe in an annoying way. Not the case with these. - Inexpensive for what they are, and I think they look pretty decent. - They seem pretty flexible, and you can feel the ground a bit when walking, so they are more towards the "barefoot" type shoe. They do have a bit of padding, though, which is what I wanted. The insoles are removable if you should want less padding, but I haven't tried that yet. The insides seem like they would accommodate a thicker insole should you prefer more cushioning and want to replace the insoles. - I find these to be comfortable. I have experience wearing "barefoot" and minimalist shoes though, although I don't exclusively wear that type. If you don't have experience with that type of shoe, you shouldn't expect a lot of cloud like cushioning from these or "support". - The top and sides is mostly a knit type material which I think will help with breathability and keeping my feet from getting too hot. The maybe not so great: - There's something odd about the tongue. On the left shoe in particular, it really scrunches up a bit towards the end that's nearest the toes. Even if I pull it up flat then tie the shoes reasonably tightly, after taking a few steps it scrunches up again there. It also happens on the right shoe a little bit, but not nearly as much as on the left. - On the right shoe, wearing really thin socks or no socks, there is something inside that is irritating my foot a little bit near the top of the lace area. I haven't investigated yet to see if I can figure out what the issue is. I haven't noticed it on my left foot, and it's not terrible on my right foot, just noticeable. I can probably get used to it or it may go away as the shoes break in more. - I bought the grey pair with the brown gum soles. With these soles, at least, don't drag your feet even slightly on tile, etc! They really squeak more so than any other shoes I remember having! I don't know if the versions with the white soles would have the same issue. - The glue where the sole is glued on is applied a little bit sloppily (see pic). So in a lot of the area around the top of the sole, you can see the glue line where there is excess glue. I think it's really unlikely anyone would notice when they are on your feet, but it's definitely noticeable when you take them out of the box. So it somewhat makes you question how much effort was put into the assembly and QC (Quality Control) process. Still, this is a pretty minor thing to complain about for a pair of shoes at this price. Note that the rest of the shoe (everything but the sole) does appear to be sewn together and not just glued, though, which is good. Other: - I haven't worn them long enough to know about long term reliability. - If you are used to and expect the absolute most minimalist barefoot type shoes, you may find the sole to be a little chunky or the shoes to be a tiny bit heavy for your taste - These would not be waterproof due to the knit type material on the top and sides - There isn't a ton of arch support and what is there is flexible, not hard. That is exactly what I wanted because arch support that is too tall or firm is impossibly uncomfortable for me. But it may not be what you want. - Note that I bought "Women's size 9". It's really size EU 40, which is how the shoes themselves are marked. ... show more

  • I'm so glad I gave these a try! Wide toe box for the win!
Size: 10 Wide Color: W81 | Beige
I have been wearing these daily for over two months. I have washed them once (air dry), and they held up well! I have a neuroma in one of my feet and was looking for something that had a wide toe box and no heel lift. These fit the bill. I did put in a different minimal insert at a month, that gave a tiny bit more cushion, which fit the shoe perfectly. The real test was being on my feet for five hours at a track meet. No foot pain, no back pain, no leg pain that evening! I have been walking in these and I'm still trying to decide if I need something with a tiny bit more cushion or if I am happy in these. It took me a week or two to get used to the minimal nature of these, but the wide toe box was a must for the neuroma I have. I have not had any issues with that since switching to these shoes. I thought Brooks were wide, but these are much wider and made me realize that Brooks were restricting the natural movement of my feet. My big toe felt funny at first when I started wearing these, but again, a week or two in the shoe broke everything in to how my foot normally functions. They remind me of old school canvas shoes (though they are not canvas), but more durable. They breath well, I do not have any stink issues despite wearing them for 5-8 hours a day (I do wear socks with them). I do not have any rubbing issues around the ankle/heel either. I am looking to buy one or two more pairs so I can rotate colors. The price was affordable to give them a try and see if they would work for me. I'm thankful to have found this option! ... show more

  • These shoes saved my life
Size: 11.5 Wide Color: W81 | Grey Gum
I’m so glad this company exists to offer transitional zero drop wide toe box shoes. I was in a serious car accident that devastated my life as a I know it. I got to where I couldn’t even sit in a chair or stand for more than a few minute at A time because systemic injuries and a back and neck injury. I basically had to throw away all my shoes because the foot pain from standing in them was untenable after the wreck. I had been wearing zero drop shoes for the most Part but because of the lack of options available locally and affordably I wasn’t getting shoes that were wide toe box enough, which along with the rest of the fit is the most important part of a healthy shoe above all else because of my injuries I need more cushion than the typical barefoot injury. This tennis shoe was a dream as soon as I put it on. I also added another zero drop insert into it (a crock foam insert I got on Amazon) and it provided just the right amount of cushion. They really helped me start to progress more in physical therapy and start taking short walks. I tried Olympia Altras at first but these are so much more comfortable to me. I then tried the Altra escalates and one other style by them and again these are just way more comfortable because the sole is flexible. And if someone wants the more barefoot feel they don’t have to add the insert I added or they can even remove the one in there. I also think the barefoot part of the equation can go To far when many of us are all walking around on cement a lot of the time and when there’s a good balance that can be found in combining traditional wisdom with progress. I also love the price point on these shoes and the fact that even though they have a wink of what folks call clown shape to them (which is just the shape of a normal foot) like a lot of primal shoes, they are adorable. They really are a cute and comfortable shoes. I just really wish this company would increase the size on their ballet flat because they don’t have my size in that shoe. I’m a 10-10.5 but I feel best in a 11 in these shoes so I had extra room for my toes. So I wish they would go up to an 11 in their ballet flat. I could have probably got a way with a 10.5. I got the gray and they look great with long pillazzo pants and also even with the right skirt or dress. ... show more

  • Mixed emotions about this item
Size: 8 Wide Color: W81 | All Black
ok. received these shoes today. for me, i like the soles. they are comfortable and felt good walking. the toe box is great. sort of BIG, but with socks would be alright, i believe. i usually wear a woman's 7.5M or 8M depending on how a shoe is made, and i don't have wide feet. they are narrow. i got these in an 8W because of Amazon's recommendation for sizing and i needed to try something with a wide toe box. these were long enough, but unfamiliarly big across my foot, and wearing them with socks would not fill up the shoe side to side. i went for a walk in them - about a mile. feet got hot and sweaty (no socks on), and wherever that tag on the tongue of the shoe touched my foot it made my skin itch. the more i walked, the more it itched. now for the insole. i really thought it was going to be such complete trash that i wouldn't be able to make it two blocks before my heels would be screaming, but that surprisingly did not happen. this insole has no arch support in it, so when they say 'sock liner' in the description of these shoes, they mean that literally. it's not much to speak of, but it was enough for this walk, although it did make my feet sweat. i cannot decide if i want to keep these shoes. i want something that i don't have to shell out another $20 for an insole to be able to wear, and ones that i can wear without socks and not get sweaty feet. these just might not be the ones for me. good point: i have either a really bad callous or a tailor's bunion on the pinky toe side of my left foot, and that did not hurt AT ALL while i was walking. no part of the shoe was rubbing on it or pressing on it in any way, so that was a good thing. a marvelous thing, actually. also, the shoes come up to my ankle bones and tie snugly enough that they were not slopping around on my feet, so that's a good thing. however, i did feel at times that the front of the shoes were slapping on the ground like clown shoes. i will give them another try, but believe i will be returning them. ... show more

  • I feel like a new person with better balance and stability
Size: 9 Wide Color: W81 | Beige
I’m honestly shocked that a $40 pair of shoes has become the most comfortable in my entire collection! After enjoying a barefoot hike on the beach, I realized the real health benefits of walking barefoot. I wanted to bring that experience into an urban environment, so I decided to try an affordable pair from Amazon—and I couldn’t be happier that I picked these Whitins. The toe box is the widest I’ve ever experienced, yet the shoes don’t look clownish at all. While barefoot shoes typically require a slow transition, these felt so comfortable right out of the box that I immediately stopped wearing my other shoes and started wearing these exclusively. And to put it in perspective, I normally wear brands like Nike, New Balance, Birkenstocks, and Tevas—all known for comfort—but none compare to these Whitins! If you have wider feet (I wear C width), these shoes will change your life! They have the perfect amount of cushioning to let you walk on hard surfaces for hours while supporting your journey to stronger feet and legs, better balance, a lower risk of hip fractures from falls, and fewer foot problems (like bunions and plantar fasciitis). I recently tried on a pair of Vivobarefoot Primal 3 women’s cross-training shoes that cost $120 and couldn’t believe the difference. The Vivobarefoots had a narrower toe box that prevented toe splay, while the Whitins allow my toes to stretch out much more. Walking in Whitins feels like walking barefoot at the beach--comfortable yet will tone those leg muscles up! Since wearing these, I feel like a new person—more balanced, more stable, and more rejuvenated. I am also less afraid of falling and breaking a hip in the future. These shoes aren’t just comfortable; they’re life-changing. Thank you, Whitin! UPDATE: The superlatives do not end. Over the past few months these shoes have allowed my feet to expand and strengthen. My feet are stronger, more muscular, and more stable than they have ever been in any point in my life. I bought a pair of the Lems Primal Zen shoes, which are also extremely comfortable and I have to say the Whitins are just as comfortable at only a fraction of the cost. The only downside is that as your toes expand and your muscles strengthen you might need to buy a bigger pair of these shoes! Don't let the inexpensive price fool you--these are hands down one of the most comfortable barefoot shoes available on the market today! ... show more

  • Very comfy!
Size: 9 Wide Color: W81 | Black Gum
I’ve worn many brands barefoot shoes and these honestly are so comfortable. For the price they are so worth it. Don’t fall for the brand name ones that cost hundreds of dollars. These are just as comfortable, if not more. I usually wear a size 8.5 so I ordered a 9 and they fit great. Wide toe box and flexible material. Def recommend! ... show more
