  • Great value and fit
Size: 11 Color: Black/Gum
I am absolutely a value shopper. I won't buy anything that I do not feel that I am getting value for. Sometimes, I get the product and it doesn't deliver on expectations, but that is not the case with these shoes. I wanted shoes for the gym that were lightweight, but would fit my double wide feet comfortably. I had never tried a minimalist shoe before so I was a little worried about support. These shoes proved to be the perfect fit for the gym. I only use them in the gym as I want to keep them clean. They feel great on all of the cardio machines and provide amazing grip. They fit my feet very well and are lightweight. Again, the value is amazing. These are minimalist shoes, but if you're looking for great protection, fit and feel of the ground, then I recommend these shoes. ... show more

  • [Updated] Fit seems a bit small...?
Update 2: It's been a year since I got these. I'm upgrading my rating to 5 stars. These shoes are comfy and compliant. The snugness I wasn't keen on at first doesn't seem to be present anymore. Either that, or this is how an athletic shoe is _supposed_ to feel. These are my go-to shoes for working out, now, with the exception of wearing my lifters when back/front squats are on tap for the day. I'm quite pleased with my choice. :) Update 1: I hadn't previously had a chance to spend any time in them. You know how Amazon is always pushing for a review when you barely have any familiarity? Yeah, that. As of today I've got a couple workouts behind me while wearing these WHITINs. Previously, my first timed 400m run was 1:52, which was a notable drop in my performance (increase in time from my more usual 1:30-1:40). I couldn't tell whether I was having a bad day, or whether the shoe was in any way to blame. Today was better. Despite not feeling my best and not really trying to go hard, I managed 400m in 1:42. Yeah alright, I'll take that. And these might be decent for running, but I'm not quite convinced that they're a solid choice for lifting. I've done front squats, clean and jerks, and close scrutiny makes it pretty clear they don't have strong support for lateral stabilization. Doing deadlifts, they're decent enough, pretty close to going barefoot. So it's all about choosing your compromise. Do you want agile running, or do you want solid back/front squats? Do you want to be able to deadlift and transition into a 400m run, or are you looking to drop into a solid catch at the bottom of a snatch? What is your ankle ROM like? Do you need to knock out box jumps? I will add that the overall fit seems better, more natural now. My initial hesitation may have been due to the fact that I'm literally wearing holes through the toebox of my old shoes. Yeah, that will make for a bit of roominess. I may still shop for another pair of shoes, something which is more expressly designed for cross-training. I won't give up these WHITINs, because the design and fit for the money paid seems like a win to me. --- [original review below] I ordered a size 9.5 based on prior personal experience, despite Amazon urging me towards a size 9 (based on a prior purchase, apparently -- but so far in the past that I don't remember what it was, or when). The initial impression was that it was a bit... short on my left foot. Maybe that's just the result of the toe box? I dunno. With the right foot, if I lift my toes up (a casual 'stretch'), my big toe pops behind the firm structure (sole wrap-around) into the fabric. So that tells me that that shoe might be a bit on the big side? To be clear, I have always needed narrower shoes, and have had to deal with flat feet my entire life. So when I finally laced them up, they seemed more comfy, ie, my left toes didn't seem to be quite so cramped, and my right toes felt fine. Still, something doesn't feel quite right. This is my first draft; I haven't had a chance to wear them for a workout. Once I manage to get that behind me, I'll update this if my opinion has changed for the better or the worse. I did wear them out for a casual visit to a store, and they seemed fairly okay there. If it sounds like I'm being wishy-washy, it's because I haven't had that BAM THESE ARE AWESOME feeling yet. On the plus side, I don't feel them digging into any tender spots (heel, ankle) so I've got that going for me, which is good. ... show more

  • Decent, does the job
Size: 11 Color: Black/Gum
Needed a pair of shoes for a new “no outdoor shoes” rule at my gym, and bought these on a whim. I’m just starting back up lifting and didn’t want to blow money on some more expensive shoes until I knew I’d use them. That said, I’m four months in now and still use these suckers daily. They slip right on like socks, and I kinda forget I’m wearing them. They’re zero drop, so perfect for squats and deadlifts. The soles are very gummy and grip the ground well, but haven’t seemed to wear out much. However, anything other than lifting is a no go. I wore them for errands a while back and my feet were cramping about three hours in. I’m not sure what it is, as they’re comfy for the duration of my workouts, but over longer periods they get… weirdly hard? I just keep them for lifting and haven’t had any issues. Don’t even think about running in them. No. You’ll regret it. Great starting shoe, I don’t plan and getting other lifting shoes until these wear out (and they still look good). I question the durability of the outsole over time, as I’ve got some threads starting to come loose near the toe, but 4-5 months on a $30 shoe isn’t bad. Try em out before you splurge on a pricier model. ... show more
