  • Has held up well, fit great, feel the trail
Size: 12 Color: 1_ Black
I've worn these for trail running for over 200 miles on rocky trails, plus casual use at other times. I've had no problems with them, they fit great and I haven't seen any quality issues, no seams coming apart. If they made a version of these with a stiffer rock plate insert in them they'd be my perfect trail running shoe. Unfortunately the trails I run on are so rocky, that I am looking for another shoe with more protection. I am very careful how I run and where I step and I don't injure my heels as I land flat footed or on my toes. But some parts of the trails I run on there is nowhere to go to avoid golf ball sized rocks and I tend to hurt the balls of my feet as the rocks really poke through. You can definitely feel the trail and have great control, I have no worries about ankle sprains which has plagued me in the past before I went with minimal shoes. But the shoes are so flexible the impact of the rocks are starting to tear up the bottom of the insert and the minor injuries are keeping me from running as much as I'd like. If you run on more reasonable trails I highly recommend these shoes. ... show more

  • Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn
Size: 12.5 Color: 1_ Black
I'm new to the "Barefoot" movement having never heard of them until July of this year and took the plunge with the Whitin Cross Trainer. I'm not a runner but like to walk and I'm using these as my every day, all-day shoes and I'll typically have them on my feet for 16 plus hours a day. I was born with hammerhead toes, developed wide feet after a few years of backpacking and in the last few years developed Plantar Fasciitis. So all that lot makes finding comfortable shoes problematical to say the least. I'm so glad I bought these Whitin minimalist zero drop trainers because they are naturally wide in a manner that doesn't constrict your toes. I've been wearing them every day since I bought them in mid July 2023 and I've no regrets at all so far. I bought another pair of Whitin barefoot shoes for my wife who had bunion pain from ill-fitting "modern" shoes and now she has no pain at all and loves her Whitin shoes. I don't think I can ever go back to "modern" shoes again after wearing these. It will be minimalist shoes forever for us from now on. ... show more

  • Almost perfect
Size: 8.5 Color: 3-1_ White/Gum
I wore these for 10 days in Europe with up to 15 miles per day and my feet did pretty well. Certain socks would rub the wrong way in the toe box, not sure why, but they were super comfortable besides that. My feet did get sore at night, but I went from lounging around to walking 15 miles the first day, so that was expected and I don’t blame the shoe for that. They got unbelievably dirty as expected but unfortunately, even with scotch guard, did not clean up well, so they went in the trash when we got home. They’re super good-looking though and my husband ended up with a pair of black ones for when he travels (he travels almost weekly). I tried on probably 5 other pairs of white sneakers and these were the only one I knew my feet could handle for a trip to Europe. ... show more

  • The Most Comfortable Shoes I've Ever Owned
Size: 12.5 Color: 2_ Black Gray
These are fantastic! I've spent a few years trying many different kinds of boots, hiking shoes, and running shoes, always struggling with pain either in my toes (from getting squashed together, particularly when moving downhill), or my heels (from unpleasant rubbing). Apart from this, I also do a bit of running and was experiencing maddening shin splints. I've tried different footwear for that as well, including heavily-padded Adidas. After witnessing a triathlete friend wearing a different brand of barefoot shoe, I decided to look into minimalist footwear for myself. After a tiny amount of research, I settled upon this, gave 'em a wear, and was astonished! They are extremely comfortable: They feel like socks, but with traction. I wear them in every one of those above-mentioned applications and they work beautifully in all scenarios! The grip is fantastic and seems to work even on wet ground (though I haven't gotten to test this on a proper river hike just yet). For my running, they have encouraged me to improve my technique (away from heel striking to toe striking), thus reducing incidents of shin splits to nearly zero. Although they look quite cool, I do think the one application they don't quite fit is dressy scenarios. They look a little too casual for corporate events, etc. That said, for every other functional walking + running application, these are by far the best shoes I've ever owned. One warning: Be careful when lacing your shoe that you pull your laces across the face of your shoe, and not directly upward! If you pull too forcefully upward, you may rip the rubber islet. ... show more

  • Indoor Rowing
Size: 14 Color: 1_ Black
Got these to use with the Concept 2 rower. I wear size 14 normal (not wide) Brooks Ghost as my run/walk shoe, as a fit reference. I got size 14 of this shoe. Fit is good. I have normal arches but use an insole to increase the volume in the Brooks for a better fit. I don't think I'd use an insole on these shoes though, as I think it would move my heel too far up and cause friction. I'm able to tighten them enough though for a fit that works. I've used these for several hour-long sessions and have no issues. There is some adjustment in the heel drop, but flexibility adjusts over time! I like these shoes for the rower. ... show more

  • A few warnings before buying this shoe.
Size: 12.5 Color: Black/Gum
A few warnings if you are thinking of buying this shoe: 1. The shoe is narrow so stay away if you have wide feet(EE or wider). 2. The toe box is not super wide either but that might be good as they don't look weird. 3. In terms of style, the black shoe looks good when you are barefoot or maybe wearing black ankle socks. The black shoes with white socks looks horrible. 4. I owned another pair of Whiten shoes that became unglued after getting wet so I would try to avoid wet conditions if you want them to last a long time. ... show more

  • Great shoes, one little flaw
Size: 12 Color: Black/Gum
I've now owned 3 pairs of Whitin shoes. I really like them a lot, I use them as my everyday shoe. This was my first try at this style, I really like the look but I had to get used to the feel. Cons: There is plastic on both sides of the foot where the shoe lace goes, and maybe it's just my foot, but the instep of my foot rubs against that plastic. It also seems like the toe box is a more narrow than my other shoes. Pros: very good insole, great rubber soles, can wear with nice clothes. For the price you get a great shoe. ... show more
