The leather of this shoe is soft and seems high-quality. The shoe was stiff but after wearing the shoe for awhile it began to loosen up; probably why a lot of reviews say the shoe runs small. It's definitely tighter the first time you put it on but the leather stretches nicely as your foot settles in. I needed these boots for a reenactment but couldn't find them at the time. Now I have them for the next one! Fit is wonderful and true. They look old-timey, which is what I need. So glad I found them!

4/5 for boots: Initially ordered these boots in grey in a 1/2 size larger than my usual size to leave room for thick socks. Had to return those because they were too loose overall. This might not be the case for others - my feet run slightly narrow and slim. Boot is comfortable enough, though I wouldn't walk for too long in them as there's not much arch support. Works for what I need - casual and work appropriate, nothing fancy. Took a star off because I ordered and paid for a new pair of boots and received what appear to be used boots in a bag. The shoes were not in their original box packaging and only one shoe had the paper inserts that help shoes keep their shape. Boots looked unused overall except for some slight fading in some parts. I like these shoes. They’re the old classic desert boot, no heels and standard lace ups. They’re comfy, well-made and keep my feet dry and warm. No heel, no Sherpa lining, not flashy—just how I like my booties, which is hard to find these days.
