  • A Lifesaver in Times of Need!
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 12500W Dual Fuel
I recently purchased the Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment 12500 Peak Watt Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Generator, and it has exceeded all my expectations. Living in an area prone to power outages, I needed a reliable generator to ensure that my household stays powered up during emergencies. The dual fuel capability (gasoline and propane) caught my attention, providing flexibility and options in case one fuel source is not readily available. The 12500 peak watts are more than sufficient to handle the power needs of my home, including essential appliances and electronics. Setting up the generator was a breeze, thanks to the clear instructions provided in the manual. The electric start feature makes it incredibly convenient, eliminating the hassle of pulling cords in challenging weather conditions. The compact design and sturdy wheels allow for easy maneuverability, making it simple to position the generator where needed. One of the standout features is the automatic voltage regulation, ensuring a stable and reliable power output. This is crucial for protecting sensitive electronics from potential damage during power fluctuations. I've tested both fuel options, and the transition is seamless. The fuel efficiency is impressive, providing extended runtimes without constant refueling. The low oil shutdown feature adds an extra layer of protection for the engine, giving me peace of mind. During recent storms that caused power outages in my area, the Westinghouse generator performed flawlessly, keeping my home well-lit and powered. The noise level is reasonable for a generator of this size, allowing for comfortable use without disturbing neighbors. In conclusion, the Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment 12500 Peak Watt Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Generator is a reliable and powerful solution for anyone in need of a backup power source. Its dual fuel capability, ease of use, and dependable performance make it a valuable investment for ensuring peace of mind during unexpected power outages. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • 9500DF Generator
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 12500W Dual Fuel
The Westinghouse 9500DF generator looks like it's really well built. It was very easy to assemble and started immediately. Tried it with propane and gasoline and works perfectly. It's not as noisy as other people say. The battery was fully charged. Very easy to move around. I only had it running for an hour and hardly used much gas. We're very happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Easy Setup & Operation for Whole Home Power
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 12500W Tri-Fuel + CO Sensor
Great generator to power your whole home! Specially if you are looking to power your AC and some other things during power outages that can happen due to the weather. This is impressive right out of the box. Great power with 3 different options to fuel it (which are very handy since during power outages usually gasoline is not available as much). Portable (it is heavy, but the handle and the wheel make it easy to move, instructions are very clear, and the maintenance schedule seems simple of enough to keep this in great working condition for years down the road. Overall, this is a great option for the price! The remote feature is awesome! ... show more

  • Impressive Performance
Pattern Name: Generator Style: 12500W Dual Fuel
Update I said I would update this if something went wrong, but I later decided I had more to say. Overall, I am very impressed with this generator. I completed installing a 50 amp input box running 6 gauge wire to an interlock kit in my service panel with a 50 amp circuit breaker. After the installation, I started up the generator on propane and tested it out for a couple of hours. It really exceeded my expectations. I ran the AC, a refrigerator, a deep freezer and a microwave at the same time, along with all the regular lights and such. The generator only changed pitch when the AC kicked on, as one would expect, but otherwise ran smoothly, seemingly unaffected by each additional load. I turned on every breaker in the house (though not every item, of course) except for the electric dryer and the car charger. I don't expect we'd really need a dryer so I'm not worried about that one way or the other, and the Volt can run on gas if it needs to. I probably wouldn't charge it from the generator because it would be less efficient than just running the gas engine. Anyway, I couldn't be more pleased with how it handled providing everything I would need in another power outage. Others have pretty throughly covered the details of this product, so I don't repeat those, but there is one thing I do feel is worth noting. The generator comes with the neutral and ground bonded. This is exactly what you would want if you are running it on a job site and plugging extension cords into the outlets. However, for feeding it into the service panel of my house (where the main panel is already bonded), I needed to follow the instructions on pages 15-16 to unbond the neutral and ground in the generator. The thing is that the manual is particularly unhelpful in telling you whether or not you need to do that. It more or less says, 'do this if your electrician tells you to.' It seems to me that this could make that vague, short section easy to overlook, so please pay attention to your specific installation. You may need to do nothing, you may need to unbond it as I did, or you may need to ground it with a rod, depending on how you are using it. There are lots of web sites and YouTube videos that explain why you would choose one for your situation, and it's easy to understand which you need and to unbond it if you need to. However, don't let the lack of emphasis on this in the manual make you think it's not important. It is a safety issue and is very important, so be sure you make a conscious decision about it. Overall, I am very happy with this choice of generator. While I could have gotten by with the next size down by limiting what I would run on it, it is comforting to know that I can keep the entire house running the next time we lose power. Original This is a short-term review because I’ve only had this for a few days. Still, I’ve used it enough to note some pros and cons. The unit arrived in a damaged box that had been patched up by someone along the way. Good for them, because they really did restore the integrity of the box and prevented the possibility of damage to the unit. There was a scrape where the box damage was, but not enough to worry about. One other problem was that the cap over the LPG intake had been torn off of its keeper cord. Given the weight of the item, this isn’t bad. Opening the box, the assembly was easy (other than turning the heavy generator on its side). The instructions were clear and everything went as expected. Once the oil was added and the propane attached, I started it up. It was disconcerting that it backfired on the first start, but it hasn’t done that since. I ran it only on propane (which is how I intend to run it) It ran smoothly and easily handled the load I put on it. I didn’t stress if because of the break-in period, but I ran some items of different sizes and it handled everything easily. The largest thing I checked it out on is an electric induction range and oven and it hardly noticed when I turned it on. The features of the generator are excellent. I really like the remote start button and the covers over the outlets. It is really solidly built, yet it is smooth and easy to move. The folding handle gets out of your way when you don’t need it and it rock solid when you do. This will be an emergency generator for our home, and I will be using the 50 amp outlet plugged into a Reliance 50 amp input box. I don’t have my interlock kit installed yet, so I haven’t tested it on multiple loads, but I’ll do that next week and add to the review if anything problematic arises. Overall, this looks like a solid product that will easily meet my needs. ... show more
