  • Started at first try! Started at first try!
Style: 6600 Watts - Gas Only - Remote Start
After lots of comparing available 6600W generators I went with the WGen 5300c mainly because of the electric and remote start. Amazon delivered within 2 days without any transport damage. Putting on the wheels and feet and fill the provided oil via provided funnel was pretty simple. Purchased 5gal gas can, premium gas, Sta-bil and filling the tank was no problem. Purchased a 25ft 30A 4prong 240V extension cord that splits into four 120V household outlets to plug in extension cords from 2 fridges w freezers, several heating lamps for our reptiles, TV, internet and other electronics in a surge protection outlet as well as a space heater in case we lost power. If we needed the airfryer, toaster or water kettle I just unplug the kitchen fridge and plug in the appliance one at a time so the available 5300W should be more than enough. The generator started at first try with the remote start at no load. It is loud but not as loud as expected. 87decibel right in front of it, 76 decibel about 30ft away. Can’t hear it when I am in the house. Ran it for 30min with different low loads on first day. On the second day of break-in (28F) I tried the electric and remote start but not enough battery power.(Guess I have to charge the battery with the provided charger). Started the generator instead easily (5ft6 female) with the recoil and ran for another 30min on low load for break in. Plan on running it only for 30-60min every day this week for the 5h break-in not to annoy my neighbors too much. And then we should hopefully be all set for the next power outage. Very happy with the result. UPDATE: runs about 8hs with a full 4.8 gal tank of premium gas (always add Stabil to gas can when getting gas at gas station). We always have an extra filled 5gal gas can so we are set for about a day and night with power. Keep your battery charged with the supplied charger. Check weekly. It does not start when battery is dead. And if there is a bad storm coming, I set it up, covered under patio table with 240V cord plugged in and I only need to attach the extension cords in the house when it rains or snows. I‘d rather put it away the next day if no loss of power than set it up again in pouring rain.😱 ... show more

  • Good but item to be noted
Style: 6600 Watts - Gas Only - Remote Start
I purchased this generator after a 6 day winter power outage so I wouldn't have to experience that again. I didn't need to use it for almost a year and a half after purchase. I started it every couple of months to make sure it was working fine, but about two weeks before I had to actually use it, it wouldn't start. I charged it and it did start, but it didn't hold the charge so when it was finally time to use it, my neighbor had to plug in the charger from his generator to get it going. I ran it for 19 hours over a couple of days. I was sure it was well charged but when I checked it again a couple of weeks later, it wouldn't start. I charged it and repeated the check and it wouldn't start or charge. The biggest issue with this is that the generator won't start at all without the battery charged. The electric and pull start don't work because the battery makes the fuel move through the generator. Didn't know that when I bought it. And, when I contacted Westinghouse because of the 3 year warranty, I found out that the battery is only expected to last a year, so I got more life out of it, even only using it once. A replacement directly from them is available but I was also told I could get one from an auto parts store. It's a lithium ion battery, so the auto store did not have it and I had to go to a battery specialty store becauseit isn't a common generator battery. I did get a replacement one there for double the price of theirs, and with a 3 year warranty. The manager told me to unplug the easy connect to the battery when not in use, which will help with it not being drained. Also, because it gets cold, I've decided to keep the battery inside to help as well. I'll check the charge monthly so I know it is ready when I need it. I have to say that I would have liked to know that having the electric start, although a nice feature, would mean I couldn't start it manually with any battery issues, I may have chosen differently. Just so you're aware. It works well to connect to my whole house outlet and run everything I want. It runs better with the new battery too. Even better than the original battery. Now you know. And, I don't thinks its as loud as my neighbor's. ... show more

  • Great product.
Style: 6600 Watts - Gas Only - Remote Start
This generator is very well built and easy to get ready to use. Smaller in size than my older unit with more power. Replacing a older McCulloch 5700W that does not run. New unit has more wattage.
