It is understandable that a thickener would have to be used in cat food to keep shredded meat and broth equally mixed; otherwise, the meat, being heavier, will all sink leaving broth on top. Because of that this cat food has THREE (3) thickeners in it: tapioca starch, potato starch and guar gum. The cat parent's question should be why three different thickeners? This is the first cat food I've bought for my little guy with tapioca starch in it. He loved the food and for the first time licked his bowl clean. Then got really soft stools and more volume that usual. This seems to be a common complaint with this food, cats either tolerate it or throw-up or have stool problems. The starch question is valid and if looked at closely perhaps this could be the problem and if so a solution is easy--just leave out the tapioca starch. Since I feed my cat top quality foods, the major difference between this Wellness and other foods I buy is the tapioca starch. I called the company to inquire about why this starch is in the food and why couldn't just potato starch and guar gum suffice. The agent pointed out that the AAFCO (kind-of the FDA for pet food) has determined that tapioca starch is okay to feed animals. Well the FDA allows a lot of stuff in food that I refuse to eat and so does the AAFCO for pets. In fact the AAFCO does not note any difference between feed and food. Animals need quality FOOD, like human quality meat while cats doubtless should never have tapioca starch. Imagine what a lion or tiger, my cat's ancestors, would do with such an ingredient! I'm saddened by this situation since he really liked the food and prefers shredded meat. He will not eat pates. I may buy a case and just feed him a can now and then as a treat but if something could be done about all that starch, then he'd be over the moon getting Wellness CORE Signature every meal, alternating the chicken/turkey and the chicken/beef. BTW even the most minor of changes can turn a cat away from a particular food since s/he goes by smell. Still, leaving out tapioca starch couldn't possibly be a negative. Hope someone at Wellness listens . . .

Don't have any issues with the product itself - my cat likes it. However, when I purchased this in July it was just over $25 for the 5.3oz 12 pack. It's now $37 - wow close to 50% more (and you can't pin that on inflation). Just to put it in perspective, at its current price it works out to about $9.30/lb - for cat food - really? I think most of us don't even feed ourselves much that's at that price. It's obvious that pet food manufacturers and retailers take advantage of pet owners.

I routinely buy Wellness wet cat food as my cat likes it and does well on it. I got this Turkey w/gravy for a change-up. My cat loves it, but itโs not a good value. Thereโs a LOT of gravy that displaces meat in the 5 oz can so I mix some pate in with it to provide more protein. If your cat needs the extra liquid, go for it. Iโll stick with the non-gravy recipes from now on.

I gave this brand a try to save some money (I usually get Ziwi & Feline Natural) and I was pleasantly surprised how well my cats like it and the ingredients are good as well with natural ingredients and no byproducts. I was honestly a bit concerned when seeing it was a product from Thailand and reviews saying it made their cats sick but both my cats have ate it for a few weeks with no issues and are both healthy and happy with out any vomiting or loose stool. I've been checking the food before giving it to them and haven't found any large bones, weird smells or concerning looking meat. Hope this review helps any concerns you may be having about this food.
