    • Works with 400-series grills without modification
Works as advertised. I have a Summit E-470 and this fits perfectly. I agree with the other reviewer that Weber does a lousy job describing this. I held off on buying this because I read a few reviews stating that it didn't work with the 400-series without a modification. Now that I have it and it is working, I understand why someone may feel a modification is needed. The sear station burner is in the center of the grill. You have two grill grates in a 400- series grill. To center this grill grate and say the cast iron sear insert over the sear station burner you'd have to remove the other grill grate and slide this to the center. This leaves you with open space to either side. The cutting comes in if you want this grate centered and want to maintain your grilling surface. You'd need to cut another grate essentially in half and use those sections to either side of this one. I didn't measure, so it may not be exactly in half. I'm simply trying to give a better explanation of the "problem" for other 400-series users that may be wondering. I used the sear insert with this grate replacing the grate closest to the smoker box. Sufficiently preheating your grill gets the cast iron plenty hot enough to create a nice sear pattern in your food. I've done boneless pork chops and steaks. They all came out great with an nice sear pattern. It does feel like a loss not having this guy over the center of the grill, however, having it to one side leaves plenty of space for a large item to go in. It also allows for better heat separation if you're doing indirect cooking with say something like the poultry insert. I'd have to say, it would be handy if it came with or had the option to acquire smaller width grill grates so that 400-series owners had flexible positioning options . So, minus one star. Otherwise, I'm happy with it. I will say it doesn't do anything that you couldn't do otherwise with the right tools/equipment, but it is convenient. I have both charcoal and propane Weber grills. I prefer charcoal, but during the work week the propane grill is just a lot more convenient and faster when you don't have a lot of time to get dinner rolling. I purchased this grate for my Summit S-670 gas grill. Fits perfectly and allows me to use my Weber GBS Wok on weeknights without having to take the time to fire up the Weber Summit Charcoal grill. It works so well that I plan on purchasing additional GBS items. Next up will be the Weber Griddle and pizza stone. While I do have cast iron griddles and other pizza stones, I like the fact that this grate holds the items in place when moving food around. ... show more

Weber does a lousy job of describing this on their website, and Amazon compounds the problem. The box it comes in clearly states this grate fits all Summit grills made since 2007, which means the 400 and 600 Series. The dimensions are 19.25" x 11.75", making it an exact replacement for a standard cooking grate. It's that simple; forget about any comments you may see elsewhere about needing to cut or modify grill parts to accommodate this. Update June 2014: It's been a while since I visited the Weber website, and I see they have updated their description of the grate to indicate which grills can accommodate this part. The listing also contains a review by a user that felt the urge to center this accessory on the grill, and suggested cutting cooking grates to accomplish it. As I indicated previously, this is not necessary. I will admit I performed some modifications on my own to remove the smoker box and expand the grill surface, but I did not change the right-side positioning of this part on my 400 Series grill. ... show more

    • Great Grate! Used to replace smoker box on Summit S670.
This is a great grate. Also perfectly (and optionally) replaces the smoker box on my Summit S670. Just use this grate with the two large grates and you can remove the smoker box (of course it does not have the additional flavorizor bar, but works well). I also have the Wok, Sear Grate, and Cast Iron griddle. All are excellent quality. ... show more

    • Useful grate for my wok
I purchased this grate along with the wok and love it. No more mess with splatters in the kitchen. I can grill and cook in the wok at the same time. Two of my favorite things to do. There are a number of other items that will fit in the grate but I've only purchased the wok.
