Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA moving portrait of friendship by Elyce Arons as she reflects on her long relationship with Kate Spade, whom she met in college and with whom she cofounded the multi-billion-dollar fashion company as they came of age in 1990s New York. When Elyce Arons first met Katy Brosnahan in a University of Kansas dorm room, she had no idea that this polo shirt–wearing Missouri girl would not only become her best friend but also change the course of her life. Back then, Katy and Elyce were preoccupied with frat parties and The Mary Tyler Moore Show;within a decade, they’d be scraping by in New York City, working day jobs to spend nights building a new line of handbags that would one day revolutionize the accessories industry. We Might Just Make It After All brings us on the rollercoaster of adventures (and misadventures) that the best friends embarked on, from transferring colleges on a whim, to falling in and out of love with suitors, cramming into roach-infested Hell’s Kitchen apartments, and eventually designing the chic, simple bag that would launch the pair to global fame. Through it all, Katy and Elyce’s friendship remained unshakeable. This powerful friendship lasted nearly forty years, until Katy’s tragic suicide in 2018. We Might Just Make It After All celebrates her legacy as a cultural icon and loyal friend.Set against the glitzy and gritty backdrop of downtown New York at the turn of the century, We Might Just Make It After All lovingly and candidly explores the power of a friendship as close as sisterhood, the challenges facing women entrepreneurs in the 1990s, and the timeless elegance of a generation-defining brand. • Best Friends, Best Times, Best Book!
I loved this book. Elyce Aarons writes such an emotional, heartfelt portrait of her friendship with Kate Spade. What an amazing journey they took: through their college years, their lives in NYC and the founding of their brilliant company - Kate Spade. I always admired Kate Spade the brand and the beautiful, creative woman who founded it. Elyce’s book is a loving tribute to a warm, talented, sensitive person who we all wish were our best friend. ... show more

  • Beautiful Memoir
Being from the Midwest, the description of Elyse’s and Katy’s kind, fun, genuine personalities and their work ethics make them both so relatable, making the reader feel as if she knows them personally and making her a cheerleader rooting for their entrepreneurial success! Elyce’s friendliness and conversational storytelling style make this book and their friendship truly memorable and unforgettable. I love that the book is a celebration of their life together showcasing the “light”: the love, laughter, and friendship, from a very “dark” and heartbreaking tragedy. Beautiful read. ... show more

  • They Made It
I noticed that this book is the #1 bestseller in the coping with grief genre on Amazon. The author's writing radiates incandescent charm and love for her beloved friend- this is not a book about grief--it is about the power of love and friendship. I bought two copies, one for each eye.

  • Review of We Might Just Make It After All
This biography of Katy Spade (Kate Spade) by her best friend, Elyce Arons, is very insightful and touching. Please note that if you are triggered by brief mentions of suicide, do not read this book. However, for the most part, this is a beautifully written chronicle of Katy Spade and Elyce Arons’ friendship from the moment they met in college on the very first day right through to the sale of the Kate Spade business and onward to the Frances Valentine business. It’s amazing how much they accomplished together, even having children together as well. I found the discussion of business from a woman’s point of view fascinating. If you are not interested in that, don’t purchase this book, because it is filled with the history of the Kate Spade business. It is also set in the Midwest but almost immediately after is set in New York City. I loved the NYC setting because I grew up in the area. Personally I was too busy to follow fashion in the nineties though the early two thousands, but really enjoyed reading the ins and outs of it. I am really glad that Kate Spade had a dear friend like Elyce Arons to share her memories, because they are amazing and so worth reading. A beautiful person; a beautiful book. ... show more

  • A Moving Story of Best Friends: Adventures, Pranks and Enduring Love
Elyce’s tribute is a moving reminder of the power of kindness, creativity, and resilience. Katy embodied all of that and more. Their story is one of heart, integrity, and style—built from the ground up and grounded in love. Katy’s loss to depression broke many hearts, including mine. I admire Elyce deeply for honoring her with this book and sharing their extraordinary journey. Please support Elyce and read this beautiful memoir! ... show more

  • Great book on how The Kate Spade brand grew out of Friendship.
This is book about friendship and making dreams come true. You get to hear how they did it and understand their sense of humor and determination as they made it all happen. Don't expect a tell all here. This story honors the best friendship of two dynamos and the dynamo partners that helped them create one of the most consequential brands of the last 30 years. Worth a read whether you follow fashion or not!! What I loved was how well they captured NYC in the last decade of the 20th century!! So fun I read it 2x. ... show more

  • At bit too much of Elyce
The narrative lacks depth, failing to provide meaningful insights into Kate's life or the circumstances surrounding her story. The text appears more focused on Elyce's personal experiences, leaving readers without a comprehensive understanding of Kate's journey. The sparse mention of depression seems perfunctory, coming only after her passing, which leaves significant emotional and psychological questions unaddressed. ... show more
