Crimpers seem to be good quality. I did have to take pliers and round the crimped connector on the wire to get it to fit in the connector, but that may have been due to the small wire I was putting the connectors on. Use this to replace wire connectors on my 3d printer stepper motor cables.

    • Nice Selection, but Crimping Tool isn’t Proper for the Included Connectors
I needed to make some cables while working from home, so I purchased this kit. For the price, it’s pretty complete. It has enough male and female pins to make a whole lot of cables, so for the cost, you’re getting a pretty good deal compared to what I’ve gotten before at brick and mortar stores around here - if you’re lucky enough to have one nearby that sells these kinds of things. However, there is a problem with this that adds a great deal of extra time to the cable assembly process. I needed to make cables with my own wire, so I haven’t use the included ribbon cable yet. After cutting and stripping the wires, I used the included tool to crimp the pins on. The tool is very easy to use, and it crimps the pins on very cleanly and securely. However, even when using the smallest crimping slot, the pins are too large to fit into the holes of the included connectors. The crimping tool is flat on the bottom side of the guide holes, so it makes a crimp that is squared on the bottom side of the crimped pins. The tabs that grip the wires and insulation are curved, so the wires are connected securely, but the flat, squared bottoms are just a little wider than the connector holes. To make them fit, I needed to gently squeeze every pin with a pair of pliers to make them slightly narrower so they would fit. Once each pin was squished a little, they were able to slide into the connectors and lock in place. The finished product is secure and holds together nicely, but the additional time it takes to manually adjust each pin after crimping it adds a lot of work to assemble it. If the crimping tool had its slot made either a bit narrower or if the bottom slot were slightly rounded, it would be perfect and deserve 5 stars, but the way it is now, it requires too much additional work. If you squeeze the pins too much, you will ruin it. I had a stereo microscope that I used to get them just right, but without this to see what I was doing with high magnification, I would have had to re-crimp many of them. ... show more

"Welcome to my TED talk..." Making Dupont cables is an art of sorts. So any kit would be challenging to use for the first time. Watch some videos first. Practice till you get it. If you get it right, terminals should *easily* fit in the shells and click into place. I found these crimper may not completely form the end of the crimp ( see photos ) resulting in the terminals being hard / impossible to insert into shells. If you have this issue, try to adjust the crimper via a screw on the side, or after you crimp gently squeeze the insulation portion of the crimp with pliers to make it narrower. Either way, I can get near perfect cables from this kit. Just spend the time to practice. Note also, there is a wide and a narrow side to the crimper jaws, the "teeth" on the terminal rests on that ridge, as shown. This is also something many videos fail to mention. I teach electronics/robotics and bought this kit recently at the request of a student. The tool is good quality and the kit had a good variety. The tool has stood up to a few months of use by teenagers with no sign of wear so I'd say it will last the average user forever.

    • Crap quality, absolutely useless
I'm not sure how you get pins and connectors so wrong, but these idiots found a way to. All I needed to do was wire up a power button on my case to connectors on my motherboard. With this kit, I should be able to crimp 2 connectors onto the end of 2 wires on the power button, slide them into a plastic connector, which should slide right onto the pins on the motherboard. First of all, the crimping tool and connectors are absolute crap! I followed the instructions on the crimping tool, but it wasn't clear what size these connectors are (they could fit in any of the slots really), and half the time the connector would fall right off the wire once I finished the "crimp" Once I got connectors crimped on, I assume these connectors are supposed to slide into the plastic pieces, to make standardize plastic connectors. They kinda slide in but, not really? I don't know. They slide in the side with the larger openings, but I"m not sure they go in far enough to make proper contact. But I slid them in as far as they would go. Then I tried to slide the plastic connector onto my motherboard pins. The spacing was right, the size was right......but the motherboard pins wouldn't accept the connectors properly. I tried to wiggle and push a little more - they actually started BENDING THE PINS ON MY MOTHERBOARD!!!! When all was said and done, they didn't make a proper connection, and now I'm still resorting to shorting out pins on my motherborad to turn on my computer anytime Windows 10 decides to bluescreen! Absolute crap!!!! I'm returning them for a full refund. Don't waste your time with this. ... show more

The crimper tends to flatten the end of the pins that get crimped, even if I adjust it, so I wouldn’t recommend this if you have lots of pins to crimp. But if you don’t mind straightening some out, it works fine and is a great price.

I bought this kit to make my own Dupont connectors for a radio project that I am working on. I watched a few videos on how to prepare the wire and how to use the crimping tool. I found that it was difficult to insert and hold the contacts in the crimping tool because they have to be inverted. Think that I went through about 10 "practice" contacts before I got one good wire to contact crimp. The crimping tool is very powerful and well constructed, but I still found it difficult to use because of the strange way the contacts have to be inserted into the tool. Maybe there is an easier tool to use, but they all look similar to me. ... show more
