I bought these to replace some Cobra walkie talkies that I used to have. These are so much better and feature packed. They have scan, monitor, backlight, flashlight, private channels and a really big feature is that you can shut the sound off (beeps) when you communicate (I think it still beeps when you turn it on) but that is one feature my other radios did not have, it's nice if you are trying to be quiet and not give away your position; and I've never had to "not give away my position" but who knows, I bought these for an emergency... GREAT RADIOS!!! 5 out of 5 for sure. Ultimately, they have a slightly cheap build but it's a super cheap radio, packed with features and they work well. For the price, I expected these to be more cheap! They work so well! Perfect for our needs. We use these around our property like a cell phone for our 8 year old. He went to our neighbors house 3 doors down about 800 or so yards away and we could hear him very clearly and had no trouble. I used this for a road trip across 5 states and it was easy to use and useful when you have no phone service. Although the battery life isn’t long and dies quickly. After about half a mile you may lose signal.

Bought these 'budget' walkie talkies to replace a 15 year old set that were about 4x the price when new, but were falling apart from use. I love these so far after just a few days of use. Audio quality is excellent, much better than my crackly old set. Range is more than we need (tested out to half a mile with no issues). Weight and size is half of my old units. Worked well on land within a mile with some obstruction. Needed it for cruise ship. It worked well as long as we were on the same deck and not to far from each other. Did not work well being 1 deck apart. This is probably great for the playground, open fields, in the same house, and things similar. To maximize long range it has to be clear of obstruction otherwise a small obstruction prohibits your range significantly. It did not fit my needs for purchase. ... show more

WOW!!! I should have listened to the "reviewers" who complained about low battery life before ordering these. Just horrible. I got these, and unfortunately I got busy, and didn't set them up until AFTER "return window" was closed. Well, the price was right, and super easy to set up. First, I thought they took AA batteries, but had to order AAA batteries; also on Amazon. Installed them, and the walkie talkies "work great," especially for the price. My roomate and I are using them in our home, in place of an intercom system. We figure these could be good if the power goes out as well. We leave them turned on, so we can reach each other at any time during the evening or night time after we've said goodnight. Just ONE WEEK of these being turned on, the batteries on BOTH walkie talkies have gone dead. Jeepers!!! I couldn't believe it. Batteries should last longer than that, right??? Needless to say, I have ordered now a "less expensive pair" that have USB cord charging capability; so we can recharge them any time. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, AND DON'T BUY THESE, if you plan on leaving them turned on for extended periods of time or you will go broke replacing batteries. And, they take 4 AAA batteries in each walkie talkie for a total of 8 batteries. YIKES!!! Hope this helps someone out there avoid the mistake I made. It's a shame also because we really LIKE these walkie talkies, but not worth the trouble with low battery life. ... show more
