These Baofeng F22 FRS radios worked perfectly on our cruise. Our 22-person group were able to communicate with each other very well with these radios. Ship to port communications worked astonishingly well too. We were able to communicate up to certain points while the other parties were in taxis going to and returning from their different excursions. The battery life was phenomenal. Everybody only needed to recharge the radios after 2½ days of continuous use. The sound clarity was great and believe it or not, the neck straps were praised by all for being able to keep up with the radios and to have the radios close to the head and understanding transmissions when the hands were busy with something else. We all were impressed by these radios' performance.

As of this date, the BAOFENG F22 is the latest model of their hand-held two-way radios for the Family Radio Service (FRS). The FRS radio service features 22 channels with fixed power output in the UHF spectrum. The F22 model also provides reception of the 12 NOAA (National Weather Service) channels. Additional features include dual-channel monitoring, voice activated transmit (VOX), tone-coding (CTCSS and DCS), and both channel and code scanning. All selectable from the menu system. (Page 2 of the enclosed Owner’s Manual provides a complete list of all the radio features.) This package of six radios includes a 1400 mAh Li-Ion battery pack for each, which can be charged via the Type-C USB port. You can also use your own individual AA cells, with either three NiMh AA rechargeable or three AA alkaline cells (do not mix different types). To aid in charging, a USB pig-tailed charge cable is included so that you can charge two radios simultaneously if you wish. You will have to provide your own USB power supply. (It should also be noted that inexpensive replacement BL-T22 rechargeable batteries are available on Amazon.) I like that these are packaged in sets of two, rather than all six in one large box. Each box contains two F22 radios with accessories ( belt clips, lanyards, two 1400 mAh rechargeable batteries, a single dual USB charge cable). With this purchase, you receive three boxes for a total of six radios and including the before-mentioned accessories. Design features include a side-lit LCD screen and a push-button front panel to access the operating features, like battery status, menu settings, channel selection, volume, power on/off, and even a built-in flash light. I like this F22 model for it’s compact feel and audio quality, but the menu screen is a bit challenging as I did not find it very intuitive. Every press of the Menu button displays an abbreviated selection, and it is not clear what those letters represent. On page 9 of the instruction manual a full explanation and a step-by-step procedure is povided. Once you understand the procedure, it’s really quite easy. There is also a keypad lock function, so you can make all the proper settings to work with other family or team members. In conclusion, I like these little walkie-talkies. They have several features that are popular with experienced radio enthusiasts, and yet they are simple to operate, even for adolescents. The audio is very good, and the transmission range is adequate, depending on location of course. I like their solid feel, and the build quality is very good, certainly living up to the Baofeng reputation of good quality, and durable usability.

Received my order in a timely fashion. 2 separate orders. 1 radio per package does not work. Use these daily at work and have no real complaints. Please make sure you check the operation of all of the radios

I've owned FRS radios from various manufacturers over the years and these units from Baofeng are among my favorite for a few reasons. The feature-set is phenomenal. In additional to scanning through channels, they also have the ability to scan the subaudible (CTCSS) tones, making it easy to chat with other people you find on frequency who are using these tones (they won't hear you if your codes don't match). The "alarm" feature of the radio can be set for local/site (audible) only, or the radio can transmit the alarm of the channel it is on. The call tones can also be changed. The built-in flashlight can be activated without having to turn the radio on, which is also a nice touch. Per FRS rules, channels 8-14 are automatically "low" power (< .5 watts) and the other channels are all high power. There is no way to turn channels 1-7 or 15-22 to "low" power, so keep that in mind. If you just need very local communication, choose a channel between 8-14 to preserve battery life. Charging is via USB-C and the radios come with a single USB-A to dual USB-C charging cable. There is a charging indicator that appears on each radio to let you know when they are fully charged. The USB-C charging was a huge plus for me as I can charge these radios with my cell phone charger and don't have to haul a separate charger with me. That makes these a great "leave in the glovebox" radio. Overall, the radios feel solid and not like "toys". The price point for the 8-pack is great. Baofeng sells more sophisticated "programmable" radios, but these FRS units are nice as they come programmed out of the box for all the legal FRS channels without the risk of inadvertently transmitting somewhere that isn't allowed. If you are looking for a method to communicate with family or friends nearby without all the hassle, these would make a great choice.
