This is for anyone that already has some audio processing issues or are sensitive to sound. I have what I jokingly (but seriously) call super human hearing. I'm super sensitive to sound and can hear volumes and pitches that the majority of humans shouldn't be able to even detect. I also have a condition where it's hard to process speech when there are multiple people talking or a lot of background noise. So if you're like me, here's how these worked for me. They do what they're supposed to. I've only used them on an open range while shooting a little Glock .22 and HK VP9 (9MM) pistols as well as a sniper rifle. While shooting the pistols, I was able to hear my buddy perfectly even when we were both firing at the same time and talking to each other throughout. If there's a lot of wind (or swarming evil flies) there is a bit of background noise that you'll have to try and ignore but it never became overbearing or loud. While it did great with the pistols and provided great protection, if I were going to spend more time with the rifle, I would need additional dampening like some foam ear plugs. I would just turn up the volume so I can still hear people around me through the ear plugs. I would still recommend these for rifles because they do stay out of the way of the cheek rest. I could still rest my cheek perfectly to be able to hit my target dead center at 700 yards. As far as comfort, I'm honestly amazed! I'm a bit of an audiophile and have a pair of campfire audio over the ear headphones that I can't wear as long as these. I never got the sore spot on the top of my head, didn't get the weird pressure pain from pressing into my head for extended periods of time, nothing. After a while, I simply forgot I had them on. The ear cups can get a bit sweaty but a quick swip with my shirt (or you can be all civilized with a small cloth) and it was good as new. Plus, they're compact and take AAA batteries. I recommend having rechargable batteries and a charger in your car so you can swap them out real quick if the batteries die. With these being so inexpensive, I ordered a couple more sets so I can have one in hand in case someone forgets their ear protection as well as a pair for my husband to go with the gun I'm getting him for our anniversary (yeah, I know, I'm a great wife; total keeper). ... show more

First of all, these are made for the shooting range. I wouldn't recommend them for cutting grass, woodwork, etc. If you're inside with the tv on, they will have some static. But they're not made for that. When you're outside using them for shooting practice, they work great; you can hear people clearly, yet you don't hear the gunshot. I only have two complaints: 1. They pick up too much background noise if they're turned up too high. One time there was a small airplane flying low nearby and I had to take them off. But if you keep the volume turned low, it's not too bad. 2. I first tested them with 22LR; it seems that's right on the verge of being too loud because I heard the shot a little bit. However, I didn't buy them for a 22; they work great with my 20 gauge shotgun. I haven't tested them on anything bigger than 22 magnum (same story as 22LR) as far as rifles. I have always used foam earplugs for being on a range. I never understood spending a lot of money on headphones. However, after finally purchasing a pair of these, I wish I had done it sooner. These are comfortable, lightweight and very useful. Being able to adjust your volume, yet still protect from loud noises is great. I will never go to a range without them! ... show more

I've used these several times at the range, and they work incredibly well. The mic picked up the guy four stalls down breathing, and cut out on every loud noise. Working exactly as you'd hope. My only complaint (and the reason for four stars) is when you turn it off, there is no positive "click off" position and the knob moves freely. This has resulted in them getting turned on after shoving them in my range bag, and being dead when I went to use them next. This isn't a big deal now that I know I need to be careful, but its a such a simple and common thing that I'm surprised it isn't a default feature. ... show more

I just got my first gun and I needed some hearing protection. I really liked these earmuffs. They are conformable and work well at the range. I can hear people talking to me, but it still blocks most of the noise. One thing that did not work for me is trying to double up with the foamies. Definitely recommend these muffs. Worn at range the other week and was beside some guy who I think was shooting a canon. Amazing how well they worked and I could still hear people talking behind me. No headache, could only feel the concussion, but not in my ears. For me, much better and more comfortable than regular muffs and ear plugs. Noise cancellation feature is adjustable based on the amount of noise you are around. There may be better, more expensive ones out there, but these worked extremely well. ... show more

From this point on, here's the new agenda…. if it works as advertised, is well made, meets or exceeds the description, is a value, and arrives in a fair amount of time, it will get a "star rating" equal to what my expectations were/are. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then I will most definitely and descriptively tell the short comings of the products and you as a consumer will not have to go through the trouble of buying the product without some background knowledge.
